Married New Englander and two-time creator of human life who can be found editing news (and sometimes writing it) for the Styles section of The New York Times.
ESPN: Ok, here's the deal. We'll give you $85 million and like three hours of airtime a day. Just don't pay guests to make libelous accusations about other employees of our parent company.
McAfee: They are trying to destroy me.
I believe the way this typically works is Aaron Rodgers will now announce in a day or two that the mainstream media twisted his words and that he would never imply Jimmy Kimmel is on the Epstein list despite saying exactly that
When I was a kid, I sheepishly asked my mom if she’d buy me the Jerry Rice “Super Show” issue of
@SInow
. I still have it.
Today my daughter shouted from clear across a Walgreens “DAD, CAN I GET A SPORTS ILLUSTRATED?!”
Thanks for that moment,
@USWNT
and SI.
My composition teacher in high school who would return my papers bleeding in red ink while everyone else just got a letter grade. Asked her about it once and she said something like "You, my dear, have a chance of being good at this."
The top-five block percentage seasons in NBA history (min. 100 blocks):
1. Manute Bol, 10.8
2. Manute Bol, 10.8
3. Manute Bol, 10.6
4. Manute Bol, 10.6
5. Mitchell Robinson, 10.4
The scary thing is, Robinson is just getting started.
Also, don’t let Pat McAfee off the hook as part of this trash. Rodgers isn’t foisted upon him. He pays him every week to come on the show and tell lies.
A reminder that life can be entirely random and decidedly unfair, so there's a solid chance I outlive this guy despite my diet being mostly Taco Bell, pizza and whatever candy I think the kids won't notice is missing
To be clear: If I got laid out on a mountain by the Goop lady I would lie and say I fell. There’s no way I sit on a stand and say Margot Tenenbaum bodied me.
Terry Sanderson, the man suing Gwyneth Paltrow over a 2016 skiing collision, told a jury Monday that the actor sent him “absolutely flying” when she crashed into him.
The civil war inside The New York Times between the (mostly young) wokes the (mostly 40+) liberals is the same one raging inside other publications and companies across the country. The dynamic is always the same. (Thread.)
To try to understand the impact of the passing of Don Newcombe, on and off the field, I talked to Dave Stewart, Vida Blue and
@nlbmprez
about the Black Aces and why there aren't more of them
The cutbacks in local news coverage have been absolutely devastating for this business, but the thought of AP losing its hold is maybe even scarier. If AP and local news aren't able to do their jobs ... no one will know anything.
scoop: Gannett will stop using AP content in its publications on March 25, according to a memo from chief content officer Kristin Roberts. "This shift will give us the opportunity to redeploy more dollars...where we might have gaps."
When Don Newcombe died, I wanted to celebrate the Black Aces because I'd grown up loving Dave Stewart, Vida Blue and Mike Norris.
That
@Dsmoke34
,
@nlbmprez
and Blue all took the time to talk to me about Newcombe's legacy was incredible.
@JADubin5
I am still reeling from an extended period in which people said a guy valuing team success over money was bad while also saying a team with cap space to sign the best player available should not have done so.
@BWDBWDBWD
Framber Valdez is a prominent starter, and two-time All-Star, for the closest thing the sport has had to a dynasty in a long time. He's good, charismatic, quirky and he's started four World Series games.
No one has to like baseball. But if you like baseball, you know Valdez.
@jay_jaffe
Rose is even in on it with a video saying all he needed was a translator. Apparently he’s unaware that there isn’t, as of yet, a single accusation that Mizuhara bet on baseball.
Which Rose did. A lot.
(Doesn’t have to be all of them. But like, make Game 3 be on a Saturday or Sunday at 3:30 Eastern. You want young devoted fans. That would help SO MUCH.)
@JADubin5
Twitter spent three years telling me the honorable and good thing would have been for Golden State to use their max spot on Harrison Barnes rather than Kevin Durant
@jay_jaffe
My 10-year-old is ready. He's got a career ERA of 0.00 and averages 18 strikeouts/9IP. Don't look into the sample size. Might need a few weeks to adjust to the longer throw.
@DavidWaldstein
I kinda like the idea that Ippei is saying he didn’t know it was illegal.
In CT, where gambling is legal, you log in to the FanDuel app. Which is pretty similar to the system they were using where he had a friend wire the money to an individual with a note saying it was a loan.
While college football isn’t my thing, I respect the depth of knowledge a lot of its followers have. Martin got caught because he talked about trying to tackle Leroy Hoard and a reporter just knew USC hadn’t played Michigan in those years
This same belly-aching was done over Dallas Keuchel in 2019, with people ignoring his issues and insisting the owners were being deceitful or evil by not backing up a Brinks truck for him.
The guy has a 5.01 ERA since then.
@ScottCacciola
A story about hair written and edited by two bald guys. But I'd like to reassure readers that we had an editor with a full head of hair read the story as well and she said it was fine.
@BWDBWDBWD
I think there's a disconnect in that the people insisting these aren't the most prominent guys (true) are assuming that was the goal of the graphic. It's four Opening Day starters for a list of OD matchups.
I'd sub in Luis Castillo for Steele, but otherwise? Seems fine.
@CECabrera_
Yeah but you don’t get nearly as many “what time should I publish this?” slacks from me as you used to.
Love that chart so much. The Claudio Effect!
Well shit, at the very least he kept acting and directing in the Schneider world. And once made Arianna Grande cry. So I’m moving my eggs to the Simone basket.
@60_glg
Based on how much they expected to make from him, the deal was decidedly in their favor. But that never happened and they've just paid it out every year. Cohen even declined to buy it out. Honestly, both sides did fine on the deal.
Trying to imagine a conversation with Laurel in which I try to break it to her that she qualified for such a thing, fully saying it like a bad thing, and then immediately being like “but look, Val Kilmer once played a smart person on TV!”
@negativedunks
@billdifilippo
if given those terms, i would suggest my life be decided based on something other than quarterback play from a third party
Imagine if you're one of the people who works at the Foot Locker he tried to stop at during the race and knowing you could have made a sale and had a sweet Insta story at the same time
@billdifilippo
that screenshot seems like an unprovoked attack on noah kahan, and it seems relevant to that that he sings *a lot* about drinking and punching
@BWDBWDBWD
If he'd said "Not sure these are the four guys I'd use to sell the sport" I'd have absolutely no objection. But his contention is there's a zero percent chance he could name three different All-Star pitchers for highly successful teams. So he just doesn't like baseball.
The internet: Taylor should just do the deal to be nice or whatever
Me and Taylor: Let’s buy a boat with Arod’s money and then make decisions about the team he won’t like
