A few people that have been testing this have already shown this elsewhere, but yeah I just can’t seem to leave the blue boy alone, and I’ve been working on my own Modern-style Sonic just for fun. Not planning on a public release right now, but we’ll see what happens later

After several botched attempts and a LOT of frustration, I finally got that old animation rendered out just to see what it looked like. Still not too bad for a 2nd attempt, but it’ll definitely be a skill to try and work on more later. #b3d #animation #SonicTheHedgehog

So, I made an attempt at animating for the 1st time. Very much WIP and the timing is WAY too slow, but I've already learned a good bit in regard to posing, adding weight to movements, etc. Based off a fun little animation by Tyson Hesse here: #animation

For this cover I wanted to do something a little high-concept and create an animation that had exactly 50 frames, with a key pose that landed right in the middle. It was tricky coming up with something that would fit tightly onto a cover, but I had a lot of fun figuring it out.

Quick progress update for Classic Sonic: One of the major updates has been enhancing materials all across the model - fur, skin, eyes, and fabric were all touched up. Special thanks goes to @TBSF_YT for providing feedback and working together with me to create the updated mats👍

Hey, y'all The next update for Classic Sonic is still in the works, it's just turning out to be a much bigger update than initially planned. Quite a few new additions, fixes, enhancements and changes - both big and small Hopefully will be able to show more soon 👍

Here's my 2nd animation attempt, actually completed. Spent a lot more time blocking, adjusting keyframes and timing. Definitely not perfect, but for only my 2nd time... not too shabby 🤷 I can always refine it more later. #animation #b3d #SonicTheHedgehog

Yes, the Classic Sonic rig will eventually get a 2.0 update that fixes most, if not all, of its current issues - plus more features No, I don't have a release date or even a tentative timeframe (other than not soon), it's still very early. But I at least wanted to show it off

Sketched out a project idea today that I want to eventually get to It would essentially be a custom, scratch-built Mario model, combining certain visual stylings from Odyssey key art and the Illumination redesign No idea how long it'll take to get to it, but it's on the list

My smaller side project has been a custom Rayman model (haven't made the hands yet though) This is mainly just a learning project - to try out some new and different techniques for modeling, rigging, etc. Not sure if this'll be a full model release or not once it's finished

Elaborating on some small wording confusion I think some people took ”Modern-style Sonic” to mean that it was my own inspired design take for him - which is what I would usually do. But that’s not the case, it’s pretty much 100% the standard model design you’re familiar with

Quick question, y'all So I've been using the same basic eye shader for years, adjusting and adding to the node setup depending on the look I need. With Mario, this is the best I've gotten it to look. If I got the nodes cleaned up, would a Ko-fi download interest anyone?

It's been a while, but here's some more Mario face tests... REALLY want to get the face just right before doing the rest of the body. I want the eyelids to have more shape flexibility, so just thinking about how I want to do that The hat has been rigged up since last time, too

A small, but important update (1.3): I've improved the mouth normals and weights. The mouth should look a lot smoother now, with side mouth expressions looking a lot better. I've also added one more iconic pose to take advantage of this. Ver. 1.3 is up for download on Ko-fi.

Every time I look at this, I can’t help but feel how much of a shame it is that Crash never got finished - it’s still one of my proudest works and absolute favorite models I’ve ever worked on. I really should go back and do it justice - those fur tufts are where I got stuck

Started work on a new Crash model This is my first time incorporating high-res sculpting into the workflow of making a character model, but it's coming along well Yes, the fur tufts look out of place right now, I'll be using normal editing tricks to get them to blend in later

That feeling when you spend a bunch of time making all these convoluted drivers to hide certain parts of your model through drivers and custom properties in multiple scenarios…. And then you discover what the Mask modifier is. Welp.

Quick update for the Mario model: Progress is still strong, but slow. I think a public release is still pretty far off. I'm setting a high standard for myself with this, and want it to be the best as I can possibly make it, and to set the standard of quality of future releases

@NTruths108 Nothing too out of the ordinary. (Re)drew up a reference sheet, and modeled it from scratch, starting with the head. It changed quite a bit from the reference to the final product though.

Hey, y'all. A quick update It's been brought to my attention that this model is actually not compatible with any version of Blender below 3.0, likely because it uses 3.0 exclusive features. So make sure if you want to use this to upgrade to the latest version of Blender.

Most of them were never finished, but I've found a few surprisingly solid ones: Crash from April 2016 Beck from August 2016 Ristar from September 2017 (this one really took me by surprise)

So I'm kind of going out of order. The Crash model is fully retopo'd and I got started with UV unwraps. Buuuut... I've been antsy to see how materials will look, so I've started building out the basic mats for the body and hair. Might try to get the eyebrows looking better

Very quick note: Since Blender 4.0 dropped today, I went back to check if the Classic Sonic model/rig are compatible. Mostly yes, but certain things have moved around, and some have entirely broken (namely the rig UI panel). They can be fixed, but until then, use the rig in 3.6

Went back and cleaned it up a bit, removing the recovery after the jump. To me, it didn't look very natural and just interrupted the flow too much. Also brings it closer to the original animation that I'm emulating, for those that know #animation #b3d #SonicTheHedgehog

Back to working on Mario, making a few small adjustments to the model before starting rigging. - made his face slightly fatter - mouth slightly wider - switched to the CGEye shader and made the pupils bigger - brought the head a little lower to the body - torso is slightly wider

Started inking this older drawing of Rascal I did, and gave it a flat coloring pass just to see how it looks I’m really liking the current progress, but sadly I won’t be able to finish the inking today. This will definitely continue to be worked on though 😉👍

Continued to adjust the shape of Mario's head and body, and - switched from vertex colors to a texture map for the fading in the overalls - made texture maps to add a slight blush to Mario's face (mainly the ears/nose), and a slightly brighter shade to the soles of his shoes

Continued work on procedural coloring for Crash - the shoes and gloves still need to be done, which is why they look flat in comparison to everything else. Once the procedural coloring is done, the plan is to bake them down into diffuse textures before adding bump maps and such.

Mario is pretty much visually complete - Added a reflection highlight to his irises - More contrast to the gold buttons - wrist seam on his gloves - changed the material on his shoe soles (from wood to hard rubber) - slightly shrunk his hands horizontally #b3d #SuperMario

The end goal with this version is to be closer to a 3D interpretation of how I currently draw the character. Hopefully will be able to push facial expressions (mainly the mouth) far better than the current version. No tentative release date as of now, it's still very early/WIP

The hair was a fun thing to tackle I ended up using the data transfer modifier, influenced by vertex weights to smooth out the normals at the roots by copying the normals from the head

@bluwolfblitz I think Mario Wonder will for sure be on the family list... hell, very possibly win it. But with how polarizing Superstars has been in just a few days (even amongst fans), and combined with the reason you mentioned as well... I don't see it even being a contender honestly.

Really trying to salvage the hair material so I don't have to completely redo the hair curves. It does look softer, and less sharp and flat than it did before, but not perfect #b3d #SuperMario

More Owlboy progress The hair curves are done, and modeling out basic shapes to start sculpting/detailing the clothes The feathers on his forehead are using placeholder mats until I can stop being lazy and make a proper texture, or find a way to procedurally generate them #b3d

Couldn't help but think of this old project when I watched that new trailer today... Maybe someday I can finish it, we'll see (As far as the trailer though, overall very pleasantly surprised and actively interested)

And here's a small demo showing the new spin ball controls. It's definitely NOT a perfect system - this is my first time trying something like this. Unfortunately, Blender also has some crippling limitations regarding drivers, bone layers, and lattice binding

I truly hope there's artists out there forming a new platform for us to thrive on. We've lost fucking everything, all in the name of chasing these bullshit trends that do nothing but harm all of us that have invested countless hours into developing our craft. We need a new home.

So the repackaged eye shader is basically done as far as I can tell, just have to create a product page and preview images. This is honestly my least favorite part of the process, but once that's done, it will go live on my Ko-Fi

Just curious... Would any artists out there (3D or 2D, either way) be interested in a collab project at any point? Other than a couple of times, I've never really done a serious collab with any other artists before, could be kind of fun

Before I leave for work today, I wanted to say thanks for 1K followers, y'all! 🎉 I already have my next project in mind, and it's a character I haven't done before - one of my own creation. I have to make a full model sheet for him first, but I'm excited to get started on him

So... DAN comes from my first (nick)name C is my middle initial A is my last initial It was originally going to just be Danca. But I didn't like how it sounded, so I added the first 2 letters at the end Also, my logo (which I designed myself) has each letter hidden within

Figured I might as well show off the last thing I was working on here and there before my computer killed itself: So the whole thought process was to give Sly a sort of Robin Hood-esque look, taking cues from both Thieves in Time and that movie/TV show that never came to pass

I just discovered this Blender add-on, haven't tested it yet though. But if it's as capable as I'm hoping it is, it'll allow me to provide game-friendly versions of future character rigs 🤞

Second, I do want to make sure I set proper expectations - this is likely the only Sonic content you'll be seeing here. This go-round, I don't plan on being mainly Sonic-focused for the sake of popularity. There's many other character projects I'd like to eventually get to.

Did a lot of node restructuring in order to get the customization working, but it's coming along nicely. The only thing is the displacement doesn't follow the scale of the eye texture right now. Not sure if I'll be able to get that working, but I'll try.

@petstealer__ All the glowing effects were done by hand in Procreate afterwards, the original render is just a standard green colored gem material with slight emissive properties
