@sapphyreblayze
My maternal grandmother was abusive as hell. It took my mom years to admit that she only thing she felt when she died was relief, because she didnโt want to be seen as a bad daughter.
@venusized
Back when I worked at Wendy's, we had a lady come in and tell us her son was going to cut someone's throat if we fucked up his Baconater again. People really look at food service workers and think they can say whatever they want.
@ItsEmilyKaty
My mom would constantly go โOh thatโs normal, I do that tooโ whenever I tried to tell her about something I do as an autistic person
Flash forward a few years, and now sheโs realizing she might be on the spectrum too.
@remainsoflilies
And the book itโs loosely based on is awful in its own right. Joyce Carol Oates has a fairly established history of writing fictionalized works about real women (and children) and using them as a vessel for her own reallyโฆunusual worldviews.
@otherhappyplace
Heโs also hilarious? He doesnโt need to be constantly quipping, heโs got a brilliant sense of humor without having to say nearly anything. Heโs an excellent character.
@WeBeTheCrew
Thank you, I appreciate it. Sheโs doing a lot better now; our relationship used to be pretty rough, but I think working on that has given her perspective on how her mom treated her.
@JortsTheCat
Jorts, Iโm seriously considering approaching our library director and telling her that we want to unionize. Any advice? (And lots of pets to you, buddy! โค๏ธ)
@Coelasquid
This and everything re: Helgaโs mom hit me so hard as a kid. I didnโt have the words for it yet, but I knew her problems were like mine, and it was good to feel seen about things I felt ashamed about in my own life.
@CokeZeroCat
My grandma lived across the road from this old Basque man, and he called petting the cats like that last picture โLastersโ. Any cat he petted would purr their little head off as he pulled their entire face back and cooed, โCome here, you little bastard, I give you Lasters.โ
@joe_hill
It needs to be said and said again. I havenโt met many trans people that arenโt afraid because of the way the world treats them, and it needs to change. Thank you for using your platform for good.

@DeclanPerring
about Abdirakโs footwear choice and I am fucking DEAD, thank you so much to this wonderful and very talented man for doing this.
@slimyswampghost
All of your ghoulies are delightfully creepy, but this guy terrifies me in a way I struggle to put into words. He feels genuinely malevolent in every single picture.
@charliclement_
And it completely ignores the fact that neurodiverse BIPOC often face FAR worse treatment for exhibiting symptoms than white people on the spectrum do.
I lost my little buddy today. Skittles was doing very poorly, and we made the hard decision to let her pass away peacefully. She was my best friend and the best cat Iโve ever known.
@otherhappyplace
In a proper universe Beatrix Potter wouldโve drawn hundreds of these little guys in waistcoats enjoying crumpets together in a hollowed out oak tree.
@JimSterling
Isnโt it funny how that works? Youโre always โnot enoughโ your AGAB until you transition, and then suddenly youโre โtoo muchโ!
@MesukingSage
He doesnโt even fight them, he just makes them dinner and tucks them all into bed and gives them each a goodnight kiss on their little heads.
@divergentdawn
"Mild autism" strikes me as being akin to "a little bit pregnant". It shows in different ways depending on the person, and there's a variety of traits, but it's all still under the umbrella of autism.
@prideceratops
This is why I wanted to scream when a coworker was telling me about her group that does "alternate readings" of the books that tries to sanitize it of the author's beliefs. People will bend over backwards to ignore a shitty creator before they'll just...drop them.
A lot of us struggle with enforcing our boundaries with others because we're taught from an early age by adults (parents, teachers especially) that our boundaries are unimportant or "too difficult" to respect.
Hey
#actuallyAutistic
friends, please quote-tweet this with ONE THING you wish allistic people knew about autistic people.
Then I'm going to promote the shit out of it to allistic twitter.
(note: "allistic" means "not autistic")
Let's go!

@lupinthethirst
Itโs a symbiotic relationship where Saejima gets to act on his unhinged behavior while still looking like the reasonable one, and Majima gets to take credit for 90% of Saejimaโs horrible ideas
@otherhappyplace
The more things change the more they stay the same. The other day I was picking up a manga I had on hold, and one of my coworkers was like, โHaha, cute girl on the cover, nice. ๐โ
The manga was Elfen Lied.
@PushinUpRoses
The FamilyFirst hashtag rubbed me the wrong way super hard to. Kinda spits in the face of people whoโve been hurt/abandoned by their family for not falling in line with Trump.
@dungeonBGM
He looks like a man who has never been married, but has definitely been divorced three times. His shirt is the grown manโs racecar bed of shirts.
@slimyswampghost
Itโs silly, but Iโd checked out a copy of Pim and Francie from the library, and I didnโt like sleeping in the same room as the book. His work is so actively malevolent.
@blightedkudzu
Itโs SO FUNNY. I had someone ask me when I was going to get top surgery and I was like โeh, Iโm not sure I ever want toโ and they looked at me like Iโd just kicked their dog.
@otherhappyplace
I had my first surgery last year, and the last thing I clearly remember saying to the anesthesiologist was โthis is just like the scene from Jacobโs Ladderโ. He looked confused, and I was fine with that.
