I bought myself a house, after 4 months of work (and waiting out my apt lease) I moved in, slept my 1st night in it. When I was a boy in foster care I used to think before sleep, “someday I’ll have my very own house and nobody will tell me I have to leave”. Now that is true. 🏡
White people loot all the time; have been for hundreds of years, only they call it ‘discovering’ or ‘protecting artifacts’. Sometimes they even charge you to see what they stole.
I’m filled with joy at the out pour of kindness & well wishes.. Many of us didn’t feel compassion or peace as children but there is much left out there. TY to those that shared their stories & those that connected to mine.. please keep working to create & curate the life you want
@wepersistusa
Many of us as youth in foster care “tried so hard to be good” so we’d be adopted, or were as “bad” as we could be so we wouldn’t have to stay and wait for the inevitable moveAt the end of the day, children shouldn’t have to worry about home security.Thank you for doing your part!
@yaBaldHeadedMom
I totally agree, we should
@live
in a world where people don’t need ‘resiliency’ or ‘beat the odds’.. people, especially children, should be safe, cared for, loved, and not thinking about where they will find/make a home. Much peace and love to you.
@ivoryturnediii
That is beautiful and wonderful. When I was a child welfare worker I spent more money than anyone would know on duffel bags and journals for my youth. Nobody should have to move in trash bags, it’s about dignity. Much peace and love to you.
It was an honor/privilege to meet and spend time with Dr. Julie Gerbering, infectious disease expert and former

head. I spoke with her about the importance of including behavioral health into all aspects of infectious disease from prevention to treatment.

The moment when I take it upon myself to normalize talking about my attachment style and my values on date number one. I turn 39 next week, I’m not playing with y’all. 🤓
@bigfinemami
Getting kids out of the house only services capitalism/capitalism ideals.. children leave the home at 18&then they become full-time consumers ie rent education household items cars etc having multi generational homes celebrates &supports families &communities &reduces consumerism
When I teach I refer to nonwhite people as “people of the global majority” and at times “minoritized people” but never minorities… language is important in the de-centering of whiteness. 🤓

I promise you its just a job. It used to be a vocation, but no one on the deathbed wishes they spent more time at work. People do often wish they had more experiences or more love in their life. Love what you do, but also remember capitalism doesn’t care about you. IJS
It is with great pride and absolute pleasure to announcement I have signed with

When we were children, we used to think that when we were grown up we would no longer be vulnerable. But to grow up is to accept vulnerability. To be alive is to be vulnerable. -Madeleine L’Engle

Thank you for sharing your story. I have created a family of my adopted siblings, biological siblings, and friends. I call them my tribe. My childhood was upside down, but the journey is sunnier today. Much peace and love to you!

To be clear, this is both exploitation and manipulation. This is why folks have a hard time trusting and opening up to people, especially in dating.
Break is over, back to campus Monday. Spent the day cleaning up my office, ordering books, submitting library reserves &planning 1st week of class. Everyday I’m grateful to be an academic at an

I have lived with anxiety since childhood, I don’t know how else to say this but anxiety is painful. As in, I feel it as pain throughout my body.

MSW interns on completing both your field hours AND your graduate degrees in clinical social work! I am so proud of you! It is the pinnacle of my social work career to both teach graduate/doctoral students &clinically supervise them in field..

I think if you’re somebody who has gone through a lot in life early on, and truly finds their way through it, all you want to do thereafter is sit in peace and laugh.
@jerichobrown
Clinical hat on, one of the most traumatic things you can do to a child is separate them from their parents. This trauma was planned by this administration. Let me know when you are all ready to talk about the sexual abuse & withholding of medical care at these boarder camps.
My mother was my motivation my whole adult life. Through healing,grad school.Even when she fought for her life against breast cancer then angiosarcoma, she still gave me life.She was my world. When she died I was so lost.I don’t think you know who you are until you loose a parent
@YoloAkili
I’ve been doing this in clinical practice and in instruction for a couple years now and the narrative changes dramatically... we gotta talk soon...
In maddening news,
@Ptownbookshop
, which has been here for EIGHTY NINE years, and which is one of my favorite indies in the world, is about to be kicked out of their building to be replaced by a dispensary. They need someone to buy and relocate them and I am praying it happens.
I too have deescalated teen fights in group homes, teens that were twice my size, teens who had baseball bats or kitchen knives, and I didn’t have a gun or a whistle. Also I was 23 years old.

I’ve successfully deescalated teen fights at foster group homes. Teens who had knives, nunchucks, BRICKS. The only thing I was armed with was a *whistle* — there are ways to effectively & compassionately deescalate without killing CHILDREN.

I love this, thank you for sharing. I was adopted at age 7. I always had a hard time attaching or ‘growing roots’. Home ownership is my further adult attempt at both.
When people push the birthday person’s face into the birthday cake I find no humor.. I’m like, I love cake, I probably only came to this thing for birthday cake. 😐
In my life I have centered friendships. Not marriage. Not career. Not economy. Friendships have fulfilled me more than marriage, career, or economy combined. Which isn’t to say I don’t value the latter. For me, from my tribal pov, centering my friendships have feed me. TY.

I have three degrees, one an ivy doc degree, I’ll tell you this.. if having a degree is a qualifier for dating and falling in love, you deserve to be single.

“Please keep off the grass” signs always seemed so silly. Grass should be walked and trampled on, laid on, napped on, sat upon in leisure. Please keep on the grass. 🌾
Yesterday alone, I wrote 15 recs for state licensure, 2 refs for employment, 1 rec for school admission, & 1 post grad fellowship rec, met w/ 2 students for post grad advisement, and spoke w/ 1 student for guidance in handling a grade concern. Your professors don’t just teach!🤓
