I've officially endorsed Senator
@ewarren
. I've been following her career for a while now and have been impressed. 2020 is a critical year for a lot of reasons. I'm happy to join groups like
@BlackWomxnFor
and
@WorkingFamilies
in endorsing Elizabeth Warren for President.
One of the things missing is
@JulianCastro
's important voice. During his campaign and debates, he uplifted the intersectionality of the issues. I wish everyone heard him at
#DNC2020
#WheresJulian
I thought long and hard about making a personal endorsement in this election and have been amazed by
@JulianCastro
's compassion and ability to speak truth to power in these dark times. This is my first personal presidential endorsement, one I don't take lightly.
I'm proud to announce 58 new endorsements from across the country today— including activists, community leaders, public figures and elected officials.
Welcome to
#TeamJuli
án!
An out of town police officer... an officer who would not have been here if the RNC wasn't here.
I have thoughts, but I'm watching very closely as this develops.
Our pleas against hosting the RNC went unheard 😔
I'm so excited
@blocbyblocMKE
is a part of this. Now more than ever we need to center our wellness, in the fight for justice and liberation. Thank you for your partnership
@Camila_Cabello
and
@MovementVote
I was feeling real bad watching the
#SOTU2020
but then I watched
@WorkingFamilies
response from
@AyannaPressley
and now I see
@RashidaTlaib
on MSNBC being real. I appreciate them being the light at the end of the tunnel. We got work to do yall!
I honestly dont give af about any of these details. Police shot a man 7 times in the back in front of his kids. That is the story. None of these details will EVER justify that.
It's interesting to see where people personally draw the line with this country.
A lot of us have BEEN done. Our rights have BEEN eliminated. We BEEN not free. We BEEN stopped celebrating the 4th.
We asked you to understand and be with us, but NOW this country is a problem? OK
In the words of Jeezy "I put on for my city"
Milwaukee did that! I'm so proud!
No one can tell me anything at least until Monday! I'm gonna be a bit cocky for a while.
Excuse me while I nap and cry

The reason our love for the
@bucks
runs deep is because this team represents our city. They're seen as the underdog, counted out, but we work together to get it done.

I'm seriously thinking of taking a sabbatical next year. This state stresses me tf out, and being a Black organizer in this state is hard as hell. I'm tired. I see why people give up or leave.
This is why my anxiety spiked, and I can't fully celebrate this. This will only rile up the 1/6 and racist folks who are coming to town. This only adds to the DEEP security concerns I have.
Fun little fact. You can believe survivors, criticize Joe Biden, AND still not want Trump to be reelected. To claim these accusations are false or a ploy by Russia, is disgusting, and disrespectful to survivors everywhere. This is why women don't come forward.
There’s been a lot of talk about voter turnout in Milwaukee. But you can’t have the conversation without acknowledging voter suppression and “deterrence” efforts directed at communities of color in the city.
From my post-election breakdown:
Good morning! Today is November 27th, which means today
@blocbyblocMKE
is officially 6 years old! 😲🥹❤️
So many feels and reflections, but for now, I just want to say thank you! Thank you to anyone who has supported BLOC through the ups and downs. Just wow. ❤️
We're excited to welcome Angela Lang
@blocbyblocMKE
to
#NPCivicLab
in support of their work to ensure a high quality of life and access to opportunities for members of the Black community in Milwaukee and throughout Wisconsin.
"It just seems that Robin Vos and the rest of the Republicans and even the courts decided to pretty much weaponize a global pandemic as a means to further voter suppression," said
@Angela_Lang
of
@blocbyblocMKE
I want to point out that
@JulianCastro
mentioned trans folks in the conversation about Reproductive Justice and this is one of the many things missing in tonight's debate stage
#JulianDebates
I went to bed (well more of a nap) after that ridiculous speech and Milwaukee was outstanding. I promise you, the ancestors woke me up about 5 mins early to watch the Milwaukee numbers come in. Lol. Whew what a ride of emotions!
Today is my birthday. 2 years ago I voted on my birthday with the BLOC team, this year was a bit different. I needed to run and get a witness signature for my ballot. I like voting on my birthday so I saved it for today!
Some of yall just need to say u can't bring yourself to vote for a Black man.Sit in that,then unpack it. Trust me it's easier than the mental gymnastics you're playing w/ yourself to escape accountability. Own your bias,then fix it,then remove yourself from hot takes til u learn
If people aren't already, please pay attention to what is happening in Tennessee and Florida. This is a *sharp* pivot to fascism and we should all be concerned and be prepared to fight back.
There is no middle ground or staying silent on this. Which side are you on?
If you ever used racist dog whistles in reference to Milwaukee, you can't claim this. You can't constantly shit on a majority BIPOC city, especially Black folks, and think this win is for you.
Looking at Black voters in Milwaukee, Detroit, Philadelphia, and Atlanta, it's striking that people who have been treated the worst by our democracy consistently do the most to save it.
General Mitchell is the only airport where you can check a bag, go through security, grab snacks,go to the bathroom, and still be at your gate in 20 mins. Lol
This was one the the harder op-eds to write. I'm still healing from the last year and grateful to have the opportunity to share my thoughts, reflections, and a space to be vulnerable. Via
@WIExaminer
The rare twitter selfie. This shirt feels even more comfy today. Shout out to every candidate who pushed conversations forward like
@JulianCastro
&
@ewarren
. Thank you to every organizer/activist etc that helped get us to today.We have work to do but lets take a moment to smile.
The videos of Waukesha are horrific. In high school my friends and I marched with our band in the MKE holiday parade.
I always had fond memories of battling other bands, or our parents having hot chocolate waiting for us at the end.
Sending so much love to folks in Waukesha.
I just want so much for our people! We have a LOT of work to do, but for me, it's always been rooted in us having long, healthy, thriving lives. After a quick nap, I'm back to the organizing. I'm SO FUCKING PROUD of the BLOC team.
Got my second dose today! I got my vaccine so I can hang out with my great aunt and for hot girl summer.
Everyone has their reasons. Get vaccinated yall!
NEW: Wisconsin Elections Commissioner Bob Spindell boasted to fellow Republicans about declines in voter turnout in communities of color in Milwaukee.
Can we finally stop blaming Black voters?
Guest column from
@Angela_Lang
:
Just want to take a moment and say how proud I am of
@TheOtherMandela
. This race isn't easy but you showed people who you are. You've stood with working folks and the most marginalized since I've known you. These throwback pics are from 2013.Proud to be
#TeamMandela
Yall can stop blaming Black people now. We tried to tell you how voter suppression is like 1000 little cuts all at once
Let's stop w/ the knee-jerk "It was Black people's fault" narrative. It's harmful, offensive, minimizes work of tons of ppl, & is just flat out racist & wrong
Some of these Senate campaigns are racist af.
Good to know as we are scheduling endorsement interviews.
Best come with answers because me and the BLOC team got questions.
This has important context. I felt like I was defending our work when we dealt with so much trauma and tragedy this year. I said it before and I'll say it again, I'm damn proud of my city!
WATCH:
@SymoneDSanders
sits down with
@blocbyblocMKE
’s executive director Angela Lang and goes door-to-door with organizers in Milwaukee. Why their work is so important to the community, ahead of these critical 2022 midterm elections.
I see the anti-Black subtweets have started. Such a shame. Some people just never learn/don't care how harmful and hurtful they are.
These elections are personal
Simply put,
@blocbyblocMKE
’s
@Angela_Lang
is a bad a$$. Whether she's fighting for workers, standing up for students, or ensuring that people of color are involved in the civic process, she's not afraid to be
#attheforefront
.
I can't help but to think of
#JaylandWalker
's body being riddled with 60 bullets, handcuffed. 90 fucking rounds.
The suspect in the
#HighlandPark
shooting is at large. A white man shot up a fucking parade and is not in custody.
I can't. It hurts.
Meanwhile, some dems say
#DefundThePolice
is "too radical"
"Get a better slogan".
Until you experience what Black folks are feeling during these press conferences, you can sit down and keep your opinions about how we respond to OUR trauma to yourself.
I said I wasnt going to watch the debate (mostly just to take a break) but I decided to turn it on and damn, I miss
@JulianCastro
's voice and perspective. He pushes the conversation and is unafraid to speak truth to power. We need to ensure he's at the next debate.
#JulianDebates
Every Black woman watching Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's hearing understands the frustrating amount of restraint she has to have with this condescending line of questioning.
Watching this is kinda triggering tbh
One of the things I always appreciate about
@JulianCastro
is his ability to be bold and speak on issues that are often overlooked. Hearing him on
@AliciaMenendez
talking about folks who are homeless during this pandemic is important.
I gotta keep bragging on the team. This came out last October.Sean, who is featured here, and I watched this video again last night as we were watching results start to come in. We've been consistent and rooted in our passion for our community since day 1
Seeing people on social media say they are removing their flag, or no longer reciting the pledge, feels hurtful to me. Why didn't Black people being murdered by state sanctioned violence...ON CAMERA... FOR DECADES not illicit the same reaction?
Spotted,
@SenRonJohnson
at Juneteenth, fresh after he still has qualms with the Juneteenth bill’s “cost and lack of the debate,” arguing it “seems strange” that “having taxpayers provide federal employees paid time off is now required to celebrate the end of slavery.”
This is a little over a year old. I was digging up these pics for a presentation, and they still make me happy. I wasn't there for this (😭) but I know this left a lasting impression on our team.
Today I joined
@blocbyblocMKE
for a silent canvass—where we heard directly from Milwaukee residents about the daily struggles in their neighborhood.
BLOC is doing amazing work to improve the lives of black residents in this city. Read more here:
I appreciated this conversation with
@TheOtherMandela
and
@AriBerman
I think sometimes Gerrymandering can be a wonky issue that feels distant to folks and this conversation, I think, peels back the layers on how it impacts us more than we may know. (If I say so myself)
If you missed out on yesterday's
@slaythedragon
panel discussion and the fight to
#EndGerrymandering
here in Wisconsin, you're in luck! It was recorded.
You can view here:
I'm not crying you're crying. We desperately needed this win given the year we've had. I'm SO proud of the Ambassadors who did the emotional labor of testifying their personal stories.We all started our testimony with "My name is X & I have been racially profiled by MPD" Powerful
So let's stop talking about "electability" when it comes to Black candidates. Folks have been humbled and proven wrong tonight. Find a different excuse to not want to vote for a Black man, because "electability"(or lack thereof) is no longer a reason.
Madison's win is also noteworthy because the 10th AD was a majority Black district under old maps, but dropped to 45.8% BVAP under new lines.
Some raised concerns higher turnout white areas would make it difficult for Black candidate to win.
Madison took 58% of vote.
One of our Ambassadors dropping off her ballot yesterday! The first day of early voting was 🔥🔥🔥!!
Lots of people fired up and excited for the first day! I'm so hopeful and encouraged!
So many people (largely Black women) have tried to tell yall about the history and realities of this country.
It's upsetting to think of all the ways so many of us were silenced, deemed "too radical" etc when we tried to warn yall.
