For our students who must wait for buses or walk even short distances to school, the expected wind chill of -1 on Thursday morning is simply dangerous. It is not expected to get warmer during the day. Therefore, Amarillo ISD schools will be closed on Thursday, February 3.
Itโs awfully icy out there tonight and we know it will be in the morning as well, so Amarillo ISD will not have school tomorrowโWEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2020. Stay warm and safe!

Local utility providers have asked AISD to keep schools closed for the remainder of the week to help conserve energy. We want to do our part and be responsible in this situation, so our campuses will be closed Thur-Fri with the hope that things can return to normal on Monday.
One prevailing positive thing weโve seen come from the COVID-19 pandemic is the many ways in which communities, organizations and neighbors are working together to support each other.
The Atlanta Braves have moved Tascosa High School graduate Tucker Davidson to their active roster for tonight's game, as a roster substitution for pitcher Charlier Morton who was injured in last night's game. ๐คฉ

All Amarillo ISD Schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. After checking the roads this morning and then consulting with weather experts about the additional snowfall expected throughout the morning, we feel this is the safest decision.
As you are probably now aware, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has ordered all Texas schools to close for two weeks. The order takes effect from midnight March 20 until midnight April 3. Amarillo ISD leaders are busy adjusting plans we had already begun developing for next week.
Hot off the presses! It's a commemorative edition of Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine featuring the Tascosa Rebels on the cover. Tascosa is one of 10 Texas high school football programs chosen for custom covers this year.
In all the guidance we have received, the one recommendation we hear over and over is that masks reduce the need for quarantines and closures. Masks will help keep students and teachers in classrooms.

It has been quite a week. Thereโs more work to do and weโre ready for it! Amarillo ISD remains committed to meeting the needs of students and employees as we all work through this together. Here's Mr. Loomis with more on what we're planning.
Beginning Monday, November 2, Amarillo ISD is offering free meals--regardless of income--to all in-person and virtual AISD students, as well as children in the community under the age of 18 who are not AISD students.
This is e-x-c-i-t-i-n-g! Woodlands Elementary fourth-grader Arnie Parat is headed to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC in June. Arnie outspelled students from 13 other school districts to win the Amarillo College Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday!
Beginning tomorrow, WiFi-equipped motor coach buses will be available around the city so families can access WiFi from their vehicles, to assist with At-Home Learning. More info in our latest COVID-19 parent update -
The Amarillo ISD Board of Trustees voted for a stronger, safer start to the school year for staff and students by moving the first day of school to September 1. The move aims to give teachers and campus staff more time to incorporate important changes. .
If the forecast holds true, our snow patrol will be driving streets and checking in with the National Weather Service as necessary before deciding what to do about school. Decisions to close will be posted by 6 a.m.
We would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to the Amarillo ISD family for your patience. We realize many of you are wondering what will happen with our schools and you need that information soon, to plan and make decisions for your own families.
The NWS expects the wind chill to be above zero by 10 a.m. Delaying the start of school helps balance safety in low temperatures with meeting the needs of our students who rely on school meals. If you feel it is best to keep your student at home, we support your decision.
Congratulations to our 2020 district Teachers of the Year! Secondary Teacher of the Year is Mark Williams, who teaches at North Heights Alternative School. Elementary Teacher of the Year is Olsen Park Elementary's Stacy Gjerde.

While most people have strong personal feelings about masks, the decision for AISD comes down to the unintended consequences for students and staff in schools. Please take a few minutes to listen as Superintendent Doug Loomis explains-
