My super-clever mother Mary died tonight. Cambridge science graduate, voracious reader, could speak several languages, widely travelled, married for 64 years to my dad who she adored and who cared for her so well. She liked hats and cats and loved strong-minded women. What a gal!
Wellingborough Walks Action Group did it! Took the council and a massive developer to court - and won. It's been quite the story to follow from early protests to
@paulpowlesland
being arrested to the High Court. Off to Wellingborough for the next chapter
Coventry Cathedral - amazing, awesome. Living in Kettering, over the years, I've been told many times you could see the glow of Coventry on fire during that dreaded blitz. I thought about my mate George, who watched the burning horizon from his isolation ward as a teenager.
A week ago in Wellingborough, work scheduled for 5 days to clear 61 trees - part of the Victorian Walks avenue of limes leading down to the River Nene from the town centre - was due to begin. Since the trees form an iconic gateway to the town, residents objected

#Kettering
I'm sure the residents would be thrilled to have it used for one of your masterpieces. Keep up the good work!
I've just had a money-can't-buy Kettering experience - saw Ricky Evans outside the Argyll Club. It's the equivalent of bumping into Malcolm the Fishman down the Three Cocks or James Acaster hugging Wicky Bear
Heading down to London tomorrow to the High Court judicial review for the Wellingborough Walks trees case. It'll be interesting to hear the evidence surrounding the legal status of the 16 trees that were felled ...follow the proceedings

Just want to thank all the staff at

Hospital for all their care looking after my mum. Each time I've phoned I've been put through to a member of staff, spoken to the doctor treating her, the nursing and ward staff too. Excellent communication and such a relief. 👍🏻👏🏻
Here's my story from day one of the Nick Adderley hearing. The disciplinary panel was told Mr Adderley believed there was a mix-up over him, Nick, and his older brother, Rick.

Big Issue t-shirt I bought the husband for his birthday, I put it 'somewhere safe', and now can't find at all. Any ideas anyone?
Back to Wellingborough to see the fate of the London Road trees. A five-hour stand-off between protesters and road workers meant tree surgeons couldn't begin cutting down the trees - a thread
Well that's me officially a guinea pig in a vaccine trial. I've done the health check, the the blood test, and a Covid test and been injected with something that might be the vaccine or saline. I reckon I got the placebo but there's no way of knowing yet 😷💉

Day four of the gross misconduct hearing into Chief Constable of Northants Nick Adderley has more twists and turns than a James Bond novel that was referenced today by the top cop's legal team. Coincidentally, Bond was a Commander in the Royal Navy.
In the past week I have not only given a High Court judge a thumbs-up, I managed to compare Her late Majesty The Queen to a T-Rex, live, on the radio. It's all going very well. I used to consider myself a safe pair of hands. Must try harder.
I'm going to be at the Corby and East Northants constituency count in

Day two from the Nick Adderley gross misconduct hearing. A medal expert told the panel the medal he was sent by investigators was a copy, not a real South Atlantic medal. Then Mr Adderley declined to take the stand and give evidence
Nick Adderley: Medal expert Chris Hayward is on the 'stand'. He's just described the difference between a replica medal bought from a dealer and an authentic MOD-issued medal. It's all about the swivel, the weight, and the engraving. The medal he examined was not genuine.
So today, I attended the final day of the gross misconduct hearing for Nick Adderley - the now former Chief Constable of Northamptonshire. It's started with this...
As contractors work to clear trees from the historic Wellingborough Walks, campaigners will return to London Road and the Embankment today protesting to save as many trees as they can. Here's the latest
The cost to tax payers in Northamptonshire for the gross misconduct hearing of Chief Constable Nick Adderley has been revealed - but there's more to come as the panel is due to reconvene
No Chief Constable Nick Adderley at the hearing. Independent Chair Calkum Cowx had been 'directed' to attend, but he has not arrived.
John Beggs KC counsel for the OPFCC has begun his summing up
Breakfast in the garden the night after rain. You can almost hear the plants growing. Birds cheeping in every tree and bees busy with bee business - and the sun's out. It's a glorious day on planet earth.
DAY 3 ....Morning from Northampton Saints and the Nick Adderley gross misconduct hearing concerning the probe into the Chief Constable's integrity and behaviour in office.
Saturday night was made all the better as
@watsoncomedian
gave the people of Kettering a laugh & paid for refreshments at an impromptu free gig in the town centre. There was a BIG crowd & the guys from the Kino did a splendid job bringing out wine & beer
Yesterday (Monday) saw more disruption with protesters standing in the way and being warned they would be arrested for aggravated trespass if they didn't move.
Meanwhile, barrister
@paulpowlesland
has been combing documents and advising campaigners. So Day 6 dawns...

Morning from Northampton and the County Ground hosting today's gross misconduct hearing of Nick Adderley (Chief Constable)
He arrived in good spirits and appeared happy.

hiya, my oven door fell off and shattered all over the kitchen floor last night. I emailed your customer service dept who said they 'couldn't diagnose the problem'. The problem is the door fell off and now there's no door. Please advise. TY
Wellingborough trees
Another big day on London Road.
Yesterday
@SmithersJason
sent an email to developers Vistry asking for a 'pause' in felling. Last week
@PeterBoneUK
asked in the House for the same thing - no 'pause' took place.
To the kind lady on the London train from Leicester who stepped in to extract me from being trapped by some drunk Spurs fans - thanks. Also thanks to the couple from Market Harborough who also defended me from some verbal nonsense. Good people out numbered the bad.
As Mothering Sunday approaches.
If you have lost your mum (or someone who you looked on as a mum), then my thoughts go out to you at this time. Each 'how to treat your mum' ad is an unavoidable stab in the heart. So go and treat your mums and give her an extra big hug ❤️

So, good morning world!
Morning from The Saints and the gross misconduct hearing of Chief Constable for Northamptonshire Nick Adderley. We believe we will hear from Mr Adderley and a medal expert.
Obviously, I can't take photos in court. There are about 30 supporters in the court as well as counsel for Wellingborough Walks Action Group (WWAG), North Northants Council (NNC), and the interested party Stanton Cross Developments LLP.

Morning from Northampton, where the gross misconduct hearing for Chief Constable of Northamptonshire Nick Adderley. Rumours are that he is unlikely to appear before the panel in person, which is disappointing for the TV cameras...
One final thing, I've been thanked for covering this story - it's day 10 for me today. I've met some very passionate people with different approaches and seen good-natured protests, but as the trees come down today, the mood could change. I'll be there in my hi-vis reporting
John Beggs has finished setting out his evidence. The only person responsible for the dishonest assertions is Nick Adderley. Assertions include that he was in the Royal Navy for 10 years, served in the Falklands War and that he was a Commander and negotiated in Haiti.
Matthew Holdcroft, who is defending Nick Adderley is arguing that the Legally Qualified Chair of the gross misconduct hearing of the Chief Constable should recuse himself from the panel and the panel because he has a 'concluded view' and is therefore has already made a judgement
People on the news saying 'bring back Boris'. What a total farce and an omnishambles. I'm embarrassed that some think the answer to the problem is bring back a disgraced PM.
Chief Constable of Northamptonshire Nick Adderley's gross misconduct hearing will reconvene after the panel deciding his fate rejected a legal challenge against them. Back on June 20.
Who says time travel isn't possible? Marmite on bread just took me back to 1973. Back to my parents' home - the tinkle of teaspoons in china cups. The sound of the sideboard door. The smell of toast and the drum ping of the cake tin lid being removed. Who needs a Delorean?
So, people of Wellingborough, Rushden, Higham, Finedon, Wollaston, Bozeat, Irchester, and the places around and in between, YOU and only you, can vote for your next MP. Polling stations close at 10pm, and don't forget your ID.

Back to Wellingborough when, for a fourth day, residents will take action to try to stop contractors felling 40 trees in London Road, part of the Victorian lime tree Walks
Some more legal chat at the Nick Adderley hearing. But it looks as if he will be standing the stand soon. A 'voluminous' 400-page character evidence bundle has been submitted in the Chief Constable's defence but only received yesterday. Looks like there will be another break...
So, the gross misconduct hearing has opened into the Nick Adderleycase. Evidence given to the hearing in two books - An Extraordinary Sacrifice and Lured to their Deaths - both written about two Greater Manchester Police Officers murdered on duty included quotes from Mr Adderley
It's been a stop-start day at the gross misconduct hearing into the Chief Constable of Northamptonshire Nick Adderley. Much of the day was spent assessing new evidence presented to the panel - quotes attributed to Mr Adderley in an interview
