Having attended all 4 games this weekend it's obvious to me that croke park is not the venue for this round of games. Neutral provincial grounds will breed life into what should be fire cracker games. A half full Croke park is like playing in a dentist's surgery

There is safe way to support children as we protect society - it just requires some thought
The comical situation where refs pluck umpires from their social circle, irrespective of competency, has been deciding matches for years.
That nothing has been done about it is both baffling and telling
Only round one of the national league but a serious reminder of the intensity, entertainment and quality (sometimes) that games against similar level teams provide players and supporters.
Lays bare the farcical nature of our archaic championship structure
1/2 Our leadership hasnt served us well but labelling “Gaelic people” dinosaurs is ill informed & antagonising.
We have club county & national facilities & volunteers to surpass any sport in the world because the GAA is progressive and attracts the best of the best.
@offtheball
Not sure how this can be best communicated to current players but some of the "gamesmanship" that is creeping in is not part of the gaelic games culture and ruins people's attraction to them.
Exaggerating fouls, implying head contact to draw frees & demanding cards are a scourge
After a brilliant day of football and drama I wonder how long we will stick with the ancient format for ‘championship’ that we have. This should be the marquee competition in the summer in three tiers - teams playing similar quality weekly with tangible goals and dreams
Although they have no obligation to, Mayo would solve this problem and earn widespread respect if they announce they'll be kitting out in Newbridge along with Kildare.
It's incredible how out of touch the CCC are on this
Players like Tommy Walsh are worth their weight in gold. Experienced with plenty to offer in only certain scenarios. Knows he won't play much but prepared to put the graft in to make an impact when he does.
A lot of younger, developing players could learn from his attitude.
We have wandered into a wellbeing crisis.
The return of sport outdoors has been recognized as safe by science for months - in particular for our children
Sport has sat on its hands when politicians shld have heard their voice vociferously & the GAA have abandoned our young people
'The GAA’s next challenge is to support those young people who will be permitted by public health to return to their clubs in an organised fashion and to resume our games' writes
@AidanORourke
Children’s Mental Health Week seems like a good time to ask why we continue to deprive young people of a huge positive influence on their wellbeing: Outdoor sport.
We have learned that the risk of virus transmission outdoors is miniscule. 1/3
Disappointing that over a wk later our letter to
@DUPleader
@moneillsf
@CommunitiesNI
@healthdpt
outlining solutions 2 the debilitating impact of lockdown living on young people has not been acknowledged
O/door sport for children can be facilitated safely

Looking forward to the announcement of an investment package on the same scale across all counties. Even a commitment to match fund coaching roles (like Dublin clubs have enjoyed) would be a game changer for everyone
Odd year.
Main positive was the establishment of one of da's fields as a playground and the main source for everyone's wellbeing in our house - especially the PE teacher's.
2/2 The GAA have driven sporting endeavour & social progress on this island for over a century. Hence our facilites and status.
Every right thinking Gael acknowledges that soccer isn’t in a position to support this worthy cause and wants PuC available to help.
@offtheball
I'm sure Kildare ran extensive trials on the impact of this kick out adjustment and that delegates looked closely at the resulting data alongside player and coach testimony from those trialling.

When did they change the jubilee team presentation to the gap between the minor and senior final?
Stadium isn't even half full with an hour to throw in. Should have more precedence in the day
The proposed rules experiments are an attempt to dumb the game down. Kick out proposals in particular are embarrassingly transparent... eliminate strategy & skill... hoke it out the middle
Result? Mass scrums with the defending team withdrawing all their forwards to the middle
As solid as this list of Gaels is, could someone not have had the foresight to include at least one member who has either played, coached or managed inter county football?
After all, the subject matter is the future shape and direction of intercounty football...
Kerry seem to be orchestrating a campaign on two fronts. Having started with "David Gough is biased towards Dublin unknown to himself" it's now that he's just a bad ref.
Both are patently untrue - Gough is the best ref in the country still to get a final.
This is not the fault of officials. Its the fault of those who appoint officials to games who have consistently demonstrated their inability to cope at the top level.
The Sunday Game returns this weekend with classic action and reaction, accounts from players on the front-line and the latest news from the world of Gaelic Games. GAA President John Horan joins

I think it's fairly obvious that the government lost the dressing room on prohibiting outdoor sport some time ago.
The pity is, If they'd applied what research tells us, the 10s of thousands back training in all sports could have been doing so under strict covid protocols
Its difficult not to notice that the sports selected by
@DUPleader

for the lifting of prohibition are inaccessible for the vast majority of young people.
Is that a deliberate message to children or a comment on who can be trusted to facilitate sport safely?
Central Council have their hands full today looking at the rules proposals.
At face value any committee that think compelling sidelines forward is a good idea should have their credibility questioned but the sin bin and attacking mark are worthy of trial
Brilliant to have club seasons running & senior championship action in
@Armagh_GAA
this weekend.
However, it is imperative that clubs follow public health guidance to the letter. Today I watch 2 clowns walking sidelines with a water bottle & service 10/12 different players.
#wtf
Things we learned from the Central Council meeting today
Rules committee not needed to come up with rules (see KO amendment)
Apparently there may be a fixture calendar issue
We really are an amateur association at leadership / decision making level
The solution to the
#brexit
headache around a NI backstop seems simple. Honour the NI vote with respect to remaining part of the EU by aligning the trade, migration and standards to ROI and cut ties with those clowns in Westminster.

Superb shot of the beginning of the Thomas McCrink u10 tournament yesterday with Slieve Gullion - the playground Of Cú Chulain - standing guard.
Three tournaments hosted in eight days of mayhem
A reminder of the collective responsibility required to manage this health crisis.
It looks very clear that the playing of our games have not contributed to the spread of the virus but that irresponsibility around and particularly after games has.
A statement from Armagh GAA:
“Following a recent outbreak in a local club, Armagh Senior Football team has a number of confirmed positive results for COVID-19...Read full statement here:
Looking past the teams, that was an excellent performance from Maurice Deegan. Looked like he understood the game, that contact is part of competing & that it's a huge part of his role to manage the flow of the game.
Makes the majority of his performances all the more infuriating
A lot of people missing the point on the 3 handpass rule
1 Did nothing 2address defensive football–the opposite in fact
2 Increased inconsequential kicking that detracts from the game as a spectacle
Promoting it as an antidote started as misguided but is at this point propaganda
What in the name of god are
@SportTG4
at with the Dublin dead rubber on tv live and the game of the day in Castlebar only available through their clandestine app?
Given people can't get to games its some waste of resources an people's patience
3 weeks on and no response from our politicians
Youth sport should return immediately outdoors to lift the unnecessary fog on young people’s lives
- Clear science
- Sports clubs already prepared
- Positive societal impact
Still no voice from sporting leaders to articulate this
Phenomenal turn out of coaches this morning

Great to finally hear a voice for our young people as

Chairman Jack Devaney addresses congress this morning.
- No additional societal risk
- Begins to address huge wellbeing pandemic
- Sport ready via established protocols
Unfortunately it doesn't generate money
It's a great time of year for our kids playing football. New venues, new opponents, new experiences. Thanks to all of the clubs for the community spirit and hospitality that meant the u8, the u10 and the u12 in our house had a memorable weekend.
Bizarre that
@LadiesFootball
are preventing northern clubs from playing friendlies in the 26 when there is no health guidance to prevent it.
My son will enjoy regular games over the next couple of weeks before

comps but his sister is precluded from doing the same
Seriously
@NewstalkFM
@offtheball
a bookie can just buy content space within your programs to encourage betting on games and you pass it off as analysis ?
@tomas5ky
Alternatively, don't go to fermanagh games
Certainly issues but there has been some brilliant football and matches over the opening 2 weekends. Last weekend in particular had a host of highly entertaining games.
Every sport has horrible games to look at.
Armagh Clare was cracking
Superbly laid out
@MickFoley76
Science/research says kids should have been back playing months ago
Other countries are facilitating this safely led by the major sporting bodies
Politicians and the leaders of sporting organisations are refusing to reach down and lift children up

last night.
The initial arrogance / intransigence early in the week followed by this inability/ unwillingness to explain the decision making process makes the association look dictatorial and € driven.
Surely we can do better than this
Queen’s Sport are recruiting a Soccer Development Officer to work within our overall Sport Dev Team across Participation/Performance programmes. This is a brilliant opportunity to work FT developing club structures, coaching, player pathways & much more.
Compliments to

on running a fantastic u10 tournament today. Kids tearing away playing games in the right spirit is a fitting memory of club stalwart Paddy Savage
@ShaneSaint
Sport outdoors across is recognised as safe worldwide
The Irish government and NPHET also recognise this
Anyone who understands this is already furious
I doubt if there isn't a club or county in the country not training in small groups to keep sane
Brilliant coverage as usual from

on grass roots activity and on this occasion our club's phenomenal community effort to host boys and girls from u8 to u12 across 11 counties.

Noone asks questions of the GAA leadership - they are unaccountable. This ham fisted tiers notion is a vanity project for a president to have something to point at as his. Undermined the fixture review committee from the outset
Incredible that
@BBCMOTD
can analyse Nasri's performance in the context of his return to the premier league and not even mention that he has just served a suspension for a doping violation

🙈🙉🙊
An eminently sensible & informed approach that prioritises the wellbeing of many - particularly our young people.
It has been largely forgotten in this crisis how paramount physical fitness is to mental health & in making us robust against ill health
Non-contact sports training can continue for school-aged children, outdoors in pods of 15. For many, those sessions have become increasingly important. We spoke to juvenile players at Fingallian's GAA club about how they are coping with “the new normal”.(Tap for best view on 📱)
