We need MUCH harsher punishments for this kind of bullshit behavior in Japan.
People are emboldened by recent behavior of other terrible streamers and the huge delay in punishment and as such this will continue until the Japanese police start cracking down.
Two policemen approach me in Tokyo station, of course in like “aight here we go again” fucking PLOT TWIST, older cops like “bro your hair cool af, where ya from?” And that was it. Wild.
This isn’t the experience of myself or honestly anyone I’ve met in Japan.
The more Japanese you speak the more adventure you can have, the more fluent I’ve gotten in Japanese the more people flock to me in my travels.
People, weebs mostly, really don’t want to hear anything negative about Japan. Some of this information is crucial when deciding whether to make Japan, or any foreign nation, a home or not.
Absolute shit storm. The people wanna get vaccinated. The people are tired af of this shit. The utter incompetence of the Japanese government during this pandemic is actually mind boggling.
Random kid started up a convo with me on the train this morning, we spoke until I basically had to get off the train. His mother was super apologetic but it was so cute, he basically wanted to know why I was so tall and why my hair was an "explosion".
My rent, gym membership for my normal and martial arts gym, food costs for the month and all bills are together cheaper than JUST MY RENT would be living in my home town of London. So yeah, that’s how I can with my whole chest lol
I really don’t get how people can say with their whole chest that the cost of living in Japan is affordable.
Literally EVERYTHING costs more for me here. My healthcare? More expensive. My rent? The same. My transportation? More than my car used to cost me. Food? Don’t start…
So anyway… the apartment below me caught fire, long story short I’m ok but my apartment and literally all my stuff stink of smoke. Like all my clothes, the curtains, everything. Advice?
Landlord is an absolute chad confirmed. Absolute angel, the man is going above and beyond to help me in this situation. Like seriously I can't even begin to explain my thanks
It’s so hard to book hotels or Airbnb’s in Japan because for some reason every landlord/owner have that decided the people only want to see 20 close up HD snaps of conditioner and the local fuxking Lawson. Show me the actual space please and thank you.
I’m talking one strike deported.
Visas revoked, re-entry bans, 10 year bans, fines, prison sentences. This isn’t a joke. These people are making it hard for regular streamers and YouTubers here. NOT TO MENTION, other internationals just living their lives in Japan!
I remember being taught:
“When giving a speech one must choose their words carefully, keep the audience entertained and end while people are still engaged.”
Clearly this was never taught in Japan.
The balls to have the worst vaccine rollout in the developed world and still try and scapegoat foreigners.
You know when travel starts again there gonna be the first dickheads to ask foreigners to come and try their shitty fermented beans. Fuck off.
LOOOOL Is this girl serious? Since the beginning the international community has been the loudest about masks and social distancing while the salarymen and politicians have been at girls bars and hosting parties. Lol you’re delusional 😂
Thisssss! Not to mention, many foreigners don't care about social distancing and unofficial "masking rules". I think it is a wise choice on Japan's part.
Did you know that in England there is an beautiful ritual one must adhere to when starting noble brawls in taverns, the phrase "u wot mate" must be screamed before any punch is thrown.
An accurate translation of "u wot mate" is said to be lost to time.
Challenge:
Write about a not-Japan country with the same exoticism BS we see on twitter.
Me first,
Did you know that in Spain they have this centuries-long tradition called “siesta”? It brings peace and relaxation to the Spanish mind, allowing a constant state of mindfulness.
BREAKING: American Kick streamer Johnny Somali has been formally charged with a crime in Japan. He will face criminal prosecution for "forcible obstruction of business" over his livestreaming of nuisance behavior inside a beef bowl restaurant in Osaka.
Literally every one of my experiences in my almost decade in Japan has been the complete opposite of what this man is talking about. Idk what copium dude is huffing on but for any learners or lovers of Japan. Ignore little bro, someone hurt him.
This was the damage caused.
Insurance: “Although your room smells like burning plastic and all your possessions are basically ruined we are basically not going to pay you anything even though you’ve been paying us for four years because we can’t SEEE any soot. Lol get fuked”
I’m praised for my efforts by strangers, 「発音日本人みたい」was a compliment often given. I attend local martial arts classes in Japanese and occasionally head out for drinks with the boys afterwards.
This is going to be a long day of dealing with Japanese bureaucracy. A lot of taking very deep breath and not getting annoyed at the system I’m being thrown into.
Dealing with the most worrying situation with
@emirates
where I’ve reported technical difficulties I had on my flights back to the UK, major & minor and it seems that NONE of them were reported?! That’s crazy, are technical difficulties just not being reported? Legit Terrifying.
Crazy situations like these remind me how important the support system I’ve created for myself is here. The friends I’ve made here are genuinely some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met.
But tourists aren’t allowed to come to Japan and I can barely travel back to the UK without jumping through more hoops than a fuxking enslaved sea world dolphin but yeah sure… y’all annoying.
JTB will begin sales of a package tour to Honolulu on Friday, roughly two years after halting overseas package tours, with HIS also planning to resume trips to Hawaii.
Genius flex from the Japanese government to have LESS trains during rush hour in this state of emergency where we’ve seen more Covid cases than ever before. Genius flex. Well done.
Just had a super tatted up Japanese dude approach me on the train, motion for a fist bump. *fist bump* and then just vanish into the next carriage. Wild.
@ridwan
Couldn’t agree more, not having to worry about randoms shouting at me to “go back to my country” has legitimately done wonders for my mental well-being. I personally love living in Japan, it’s where I’ve chosen to call my home just not blind to its downsides that’s all lol
The replies on this Japan article range from weebs crying about Japans greatness, people trying to trash the writer, general racism both against Japanese people and foreigners both abroad and in their respective countries and everything in between. Take a week off guys.
A British guy who had been on the run for 8 years after being suspected of possessing 0.6 grams of drugs in Roppongi in 2014 was arrested the moment he arrived at Narita Airport from the US today. Obviously he didn't think he was still being chased.
This year I was pretty excited to go home and celebrate Christmas with the family… but then you know. People don’t wanna wear masks or get vaccinated so again I’m stuck in Japan for another year.
In Japan, people go to police to ask for directions or to help them find lost items including even their children who get lost. It’s like the friendly neighborhood lost and found. Things are changing as Japan changes, but the terror that exists in the US just isn’t here.
@elmaridodeyu
WHAT?! This is the absolute worst advice for learners! That’s like saying “learners of English, ignore the English alphabet”. Learning the kanas is so important to continued study and should be learn in the first 6months with kanji being a slow build thought-out their studies
"Im not getting shot by the police so everything is fine" Y'all really don't have any critical thinking abilities do you? Two things can be bad at the same time. I aint comparing shit to the US, racism is racism, bad police are bad police. Go away now.
@AfroInJapan
Have you ever been shot at by the police here? While there is a element of xenophobia I don’t think we can even come close to comparing with the US police.
Today’s mission is to listen to very loud music to drown out the incoming depression while I basically throw away half my shit and wash everything else.. we’re having fun here
This travel account is spreading a fake story about meeting an American on a train whose here in Japan for a family siteseeing trip.
- the borders are literally still closed
- Americans aren’t allowed to travel abroad
- no sightseeing visas are being issued
Thankyou to everyone who has messaged me about my "goodbye" piece to Japan. The response has been truly overwhelming. I'm very gratified so many of you think i got it about right.
Man, this whole “you can’t open any accounts or do shit without a year on your gaijin card” racist BS gotta stop my dude. Legit fighting these Rakuten dickheads for a cheaper phone contract. Madness. Just gimmie a fuxking SIM card.
Prime Minister Kishida has announced Japan will begin permitting small package tours as early as May for foreign tourists, with borders likely to reopen further in June.
This charming Japanese inn, located deep in the mountains of Iwate Prefecture, has no phone or internet, and only accepts reservations by written letter.

It surprising to me that some people are reluctant to get the vaccine. Covid literally causes people to get life long health issues yet some still cry that the vaccine might hurt their arm and give them a little fever. Da fuk?
100% Japan loves me. Thats the attitude everyone should have going forward, it’s the only way to survive not only in Japan but in any country where you’re the minority. Realize there are problems but don’t let them weigh you down, don’t let them latch onto your every thought.
I got to speak to a real life anti-vax person today. Wow. The mental gymnastics, all sources were either Facebook, a friend told me or the classic “trust me bro”. Honestly I was impressed. I still kind of blown away.
My least favorite brand of foreign person you see in Japan is (usually a guy) who disparages English teaching and says stuff like “I have a real job” “I could never do something so unfulfilling” but then works 8-5 everyday in a faceless corporation being an engineer/coder etc
I can’t stay this enough… STOP using
@Airbnb
the sooner this company collapses the better! Had a nightmare stay with them in Japan and literally NO ONE even tried to help.
For a fun game, let's do a tour of the unit
@Airbnb
refuses to give me a refund for! I'm sure they'd hate if you liked it shared this, which seems to be the only way to get their attention. Let's start with the entryway. Not off to a great start re: cleanliness.
Legit bad advice. Spoke to my friend who works at a unnamed credit card company and most of the time rejections are because of things like
- visa coming to an end
- wrong Japanese
- katakana/kana didn't match
- document problem
- something something foreign name too long
4) Don't expect to get a credit card within your first couple of years. Get a debit card instead. Credit company's credibility is akin to a lottery. Don't take it too personally.
If someone made an eikaiwa-style ALT company in Japan that actually treated their teachers well and paid a fair wage they could corner the whole market.
@AmbroiseVelvet
Welcome to the club, my Nihongo jyozu usually comes between the Japanese police abusing my rights or saying some borderline racist shit
