In this post, I share my thoughts on the botched FX reforms, new minimum wage and fiscal policy dominance.
Can Governor Cardoso Resist Political Pressure?
Someone is talking about how women misuse the word “abuse” in this space. He was asked to explain what it means and he threatened to slap the woman if she doesn’t stop asking.
You can’t make this shit up.
😂😂😂😂😂

many men in the quotes are saying she will be lonely in her late 40s or 50s.
you won’t guess the demography that’s mostly lonely and regretful despite having kids 🫵🏾
As a woman who doesn’t consciously want children, the truth about it is that from time to time i feel guilty about it because that’s what society tells you you should want.
At 25 I didn’t want. At 35, i still don’t want
The audacity to be able to marry four wives, beat your wife, chase her out of the house and boast about it publicly is all enabled by culture and religion.
Everything can and will be justified, because these aren’t absurd enough. And there will be no consequences.
Jubail in Saudi Arabia is an industrial city that is expected to be completed in 2024 after 22 years of construction
It will comprise of over 100 industrial plants, house over 100,000 people, and produce 7% of Saudi’s GDP
It is one of the largest engineering projects in history
They told you the CEO of Seplat is racist that’s why they revoked his visa and work permit and you believe.
Every time you think the personal interest of politicians or highly placed Nigerians aligns with yours, think again.
Na small thing dey please una + memory loss.
I always say gifting money is the easiest thing ever if you have it. Takes no effort.
I can make a transfer in mins, but buying a thoughtful gift of the same value? Leaving the comfort of my house into Lagos traffic to show up for you? Staying on the call with you? Much harder.
Talking Keke business with some rider today. This guy tells me they pay N1,500 in various taxes per day. That's around N33k/month (working days) and almost N400k/annum. I asked of the benefits he gets for those taxes, man says he doesn't know what Unions do with it. Insane.
the largest population of poor people
the largest population of displaced people
the largest population of kids out of school
the highest incidence of insecurity
the largest population of illiterates
the list is endless. these are all battles for arewa twitter to fight but no.
That 2015 campaign was insane.
People be like “general Buhari unjustly murdered my family, now I’m backing him for president because he’s a man of integrity”
Naso we go dey beg civil servants to do their job with bribes and “respect”.
“Please sir/madam, abeg help me sir/madam. Manage this sir/madam”
All because you can’t trust them to just be decent people and do their jobs.
Nigeria is a crime scene.
Just saw the Enugu results from Owo Ward in Nkanu East LGA. PDP had all the votes in the ward. ALL THE VOTES.
PDP - 5,537
LP- 0
ALL OTHER PARTIES - 0
Total registered voters is 6,132. 90% of registered voted and they voted only for PDP.
Kept rent in dollars a few weeks back when a dollar was 1500. $4k was 6m then
That same 4k turned to 4.4m in my eyes in how many weeks😅
Filled with regret cause I could’ve just changed this shit in peace
What is the single best long-term investment option for a young African today?
Criteria;
1. Must provide the power of "good-ol" compounding
2. Must protect against devaluation
3. Must protect against inflation
4.Must be accessible?
if you ask me, the only way to survive this country is to be cynical and paranoid.
you must not be optimistic about leadership bringing progress, and you must genuinely believe that Nigeria is after your life.
recognise this, and plan accordingly (staying or leaving).
We have 6 unique users per 10 sims in Nigeria. We have 78 million NINs linked to 125 million sims, while 72.7 million sims are yet to be linked. If the existing ratio holds, that's a unique user base of around 123 million.
Does this tell us anything about our population? 👀
from tomorrow, everyone will act as if they didn't see or know what happened today. the focus will be on the results, even if they know it is tainted.
they will analyse this bullshit, when the elections should be thrown away.
1. It’s MTN’s money, it was not a gift or anything
2. MTN creates more value for Nigeria than almost any other single entity
3. MTN creates more value for Nigeria than Nigerian students schooling abroad
4. Yes, that administration wrecked us but it’s not because of MTN
@Letter_to_Jack
Emefiele prioritized MTN and gave them 1 billion dollars when Nigerians couldn't even access forex to pay for school fees? This past administration really wrecked us as a nation.
What is being sold is balance. Men should value their families more so that they won’t be asking kids doing nice stuff for their moms “where your papa”
This gives women a chance to earn as much as the men and attain the same heights professionally.
It’s rather straightforward.
It was traditionally accepted that men generally spent too much time at work and undervalued their families. This often left them poorly fulfilled later in life. Somehow this damaging formula of the primacy of work is being sold to women as the ideal route to fulfillment. LOL!

So Shoprite is discontinuing operations in Nigeria and selling a majority stake to other investors.
As you can see, they had a bad year 12 months to June 2020. Even SA that has been struggling to grow has a better consumer market. Rest of Africa wasn't as bad as Naija too.
People say this guy is the greatest politician of his generation and hold him up as an example for others.
But when you look at his cabinet, which is an assembly of clowns, you see he made too many concessions.
There’s simply no evidence that he had a great political capital.
Shallipopi is Shallipopi, really. If you the old songs, you’ll enjoy this too.
The writing has never been great, nor the delivery.
It’s just sweet ridiculousness. He doesn’t take himself seriously, and neither will you when you are singing the songs loudly in clubs.
The truth is that coastal road is another project that will not deliver value to Nigerians. It shouldn’t be a priority right now.
I’m struggling to understand the point of it. What value does it create?
I’ve never seen a project put together at such pace in Nigeria.
But, historically, currency outside banks has always been well over 80% of total currency in circulation.
Has it been troubling all along or did anything change recently?
I fully support the
@cenbank
redesign of the Naira. If 80% of bank notes in circulation are outside the banks, that's troubling. The CBN obviously wants to force all those notes back into the banking system. Those with the notes must surrender to get new ones or else it becomes
Covenant university is such a nonsense school. In fact all the private universities that create an atmosphere for students, especially female, to be harassed and assaulted by every single staff of the university.
I'm back with my agenda. Opay claims to be processing $2bn monthly. Last two weeks, TeamApt claimed MoniePoint is doing $3bn.
There are many market leaders claiming to be processing $$billions monthly. People are lying in this sector.
Opposition attacking Obidients and their belongings this is bad. The Lagos State government must do something about this. Stop attacking Obidients enough is enough.
#LagosForLP
#ObiDattiInLagos
Doesn’t look like you understand Lagos enough either.
They hijacked polling units and stopped people from voting because they are Igbo or look like one or are most likely to vote against APC.
What will a “change election” or knowing Yoruba sentences fix about that?
Like I've said before, his team didn't understand Lagos. And he himself didn't help matters.
Perhaps the experience of the last go around will help him with a better team and much better preparedness next time, let's see.
Change election in Lagos, big big chance.
We will be obsessing over adjectives when there are people who can’t feed, can’t get employed, can’t go to school, and have no access to all the things that should make humans function in the 21st century.
If that’s not being impoverished, I don’t know what it is.
I don't understand why people are sympathetic towards FBN directors. They have looted that bank for years and the regulator has been supporting them. Now they get sacked you are saying there is no investigation? Go and pull up the annual reports between 2015 and 2020.
CBN has no right to do what they are doing. Their list of items banned in the FX market does not say you cannot purchase those things, only that official dollars will not be granted by the bank itself.
This is the circular. You can see number 41, which is the current issue.
I talked to Zikoko about the CBN’s latest action. It’s detailed, so please take a look.
“Why should Nigerians bear all the cost for a policy that’s likely to achieve nothing? These are questions the CBN has to answer.”
my new article on nigeria's fiscal/debt crisis.
I mapped out scenarios on how things can get even worse if the FG does not become more disciplined with spending and borrowing.
It covers what the FG should be doing and the cost of inaction.
unnecessary argument. most of what you buy in Nigeria is not driven by FX. There are over 700 items consumers buy that is being tracked by the NBS. Majority of these items are not globally traded, especially services.
Example of a non-traded service is a hair cut.
The fact that people are pessimistic about something does not mean they are not optimistic about other things. It does not mean they are doing nothing.
The challenge is you think they must dream of the same world as you and do the same thing you are doing.
I think some of you here also believe if you had access to $300k in equity from your family, you would have built a company worth $1.5tn+ like Bezos.
Lmaooooooo you are not that bright please.
don jazzy is still the most important and relevant person in the music scene. it's not even close.
he is also the biggest influencer, and that is deliberate.
imagine thinking it's an insult.
With the disaster we've seen over the past 7 years of the Buhari and Emefiele led Nigeria, we should welcome anyone saying they will ensure more fiscal discipline. Someone who has a track record of that? Even better.
What is clear is that we can't continue this rubbish.
You go school or you no go school. Dem teach you well or not. The market is quite effective in teaching economics. Even if you no get sense, you go ask: "why onion prices dey fall? Why bag of rice dey cost? Why my salary no fit buy the same things again?"
This is the FX position of some big banks.
As you can see, dollar deposits by customers fund most of the dollar assets they have.
So there’s no “idle cash” sitting around for someone to just convert.
Most of the assets are illiquid (loans), so free dollars no too dey.
The worst thing about this country is that feeling of helplessness. Nothing will save you even in the face of great injustice. You have no recourse to anything. The policemen are so blatant because there will be no consequences.
how many of your PhDs in economics departments maintain a blog or column talking about the economy? all they do is write rubbish papers for promotion.
i'm not even asking for a widely read blog. give us links if na lie.
It’s impossible to build wealth without living below your means.
And no matter how hard the country is, you have to work towards it. If not, you wouldn’t create wealth or own assets. It’s easier to control expenses than grow income too.
The “Live below your means” advice sounds like another hackneyed talk until you start living below your means and take stock of your finances a few months after doing so. Don’t let twitter deceive you, it’s very very powerful advice.
I don’t know how other societies self-correct. But we desperately need a correction.
Societies can get bad luck with leaders. Ours is permanent, it’s not surprising. There’s no diversity of ideas.
When a leader embarks on a dangerous path, subsequent ones kick us further down.
