Disclaimer: I have never done virtual interviews.
Absolutely irrelevant post.
You are all IMGs from Pakistan and as such represent your country.
Displaying which Pakistani medical school had more matches is not important IMHO.

- My plan B was to do Gen Surg --> turned out to be the best decision I took!

, residency matching is NOT a fair process.
It's who you know that will get you interviews.
Likewise, it's who you know that will determine where your name ends up on the ROL & hence match.
Be wary of people that claim this process is equitable.

it doesn't matter if you get 25 interviews or 1 interview.
IF you match, it will be to ONE program.
So please stop this I got "n" interviews as it truly makes no difference.
You are demoralizing other applicants.
No need to make it a competition.

, it doesn't matter if you matched at your 1st, 5th or last choice, heck even if you SOAP'd into a spot.
All that matters is: you have a job to get a training.
Make the most of your training & focus on what kind of a physician you want to become.

There is also a huge gap between residency and actual practice.
No one teaches about the insurance/admin/CPT codes/non-medical issues that you have to deal with on a daily basis.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way.
As an intern, you don't have enough knowledge to make a decision.
It's better to ASK a senior why a test is being ordered as opposed to deciding yourself to not order a test.
Better advice is to seek help when unsure.

When you get an interview invite, you need to decide how early you want to interview.
If a program is going to be low down on your rank list, try to schedule that interview ASAP. 🎯

Don't ruminate over it.
Focus on the interviews you do get.
Number of rejections has nothing to do with the ONE program you will match at.
Take every interview knowing you might match there!
#match2023
During the interview, please dress to blend in (solid colors blue black etc), no awkward screens behind on zoom etc.
You don't want to be the one that stuck out for the wrong reasons.
These things do get talked about after the interview.
Your goal is to blend in with the rest. 🎯
Might seem obvious but:
LISTEN to the Q being asked.
THINK before speaking.
When answering a Q, please speak slowly, clearly, enunciate your words.
You want the interviewer to understand your answer, not guess as to what you just said.
Remember this is YOUR time, slow down 🎯
Just received this gift from

Now onto the actual interview Qs.
Your most common one will be:
"tell me about yourself".
Please don't narrate your entire life history, don't regurgitate your
#ERAS
application, no I don't want to hear about your
#USMLE
scores here!
Have 3-4 short sentences to answer this Q. 🎯
Ultimately, program director is looking for candidates that are a good "fit" for the program, whatever that is.
If you are a good fit for that program, tell them how.🎯
You have come this far; congratulations on your journey & achievements.
May the force be with you.

Please answer this with humility. I was baffled at the answers I got from some of the applicants when I interviewed🤦🏽♂️
You are "seeking" a spot, no the program does not "deserve" you in it.
Honestly, blending in with your answer is probably the best 🎯
