No, these pigs aren't sheep. These are Mangalitsas, a breed we raise on our farm in Iowa that were originally bred by the Royal Habsburg Emperor. Mangalitsas' wool keeps them warm in the winter! 🧵

This is Mangalitsa- a breed we raise outdoors on our farm in Iowa. Marbling and flavor genetics from the Royal Habsburgs, favored by most of the best chefs in the world.
This is our Iowa hometown in the 1950s.
We're going to continue to build and restore our town.
Up next, one of our owner's wives is opening a coffee shop for our town to gather, drink coffee, work, and visit with friends.
"regenerative" means leaving land better than you found it. A group in Africa has demonstrated how to regreen totally barren areas.

Many of you said "we love what you're doing."
Yet cheap goods from China fill many of our homes. Mangalitsa meat may be the only quality item.
We decided to do something about it.

the pork you buy from the store doesn't look anything like the pork your ancestors ate. You can change this- just buy Mangalitsa from Acorn Bluff Farms and your life will change for the better.

baby Mangalitsa are known for their distinctive "racing stripes."
As they age, the racing stripes disappear- maybe because they slow down (but they're still difficult to catch).
Nothing is more human than breaking bread. One reason we started our farm is to encourage people to create great food with friends and family. Cooking, then eating a meal together is an ancient, positive ritual.

Our vision was to build a regenerative farm that serves the best tasting pork in the world.
We're doing that today- despite twists and turns, from sterile boars to broken fence, we love every minute of it.
Acorn Bluff Farms is looking to build our own model of regenerative agriculture in Iowa, where the land is richer than Salatin's but also..more expensive...we will eventually be far more than just a pork farm!
microbreweries got big. Then Anheuser-Busch bough them.
The same thing will happen to small farmers- unless we refuse to sell out. Keep ownership in the family.
That's what we'll do at Acorn Bluff Farms. Owned by Seth and Kenan until we die.
Time for some fusion. We took a Mangalitsa Pernil Roast, and all the fixings for a Cuban Sandwich. Puerto Rican Pernil meets Cuban Sandwiches. Our Mangalitsa roasts add a new dimension to roasts, sandwiches, and more with their sweet finish.

2/4 Salatin's family are Christians who believe they have a duty to "Steward" the Earth, a biblical concept that mankind is responsible for maintaining, creating and building a thriving ecosystem here on earth.
Mangas have always been known for their wooly, distinctive coats and marbling/fat profile. Further, the meat is more red and juicy than typical pork- this may be due to more blood flow and denser nutrient content.
Manga genetics (intentionally) haven't changed much. Why mess with a good thing? We love our wooly pigs, and the flavor they produce. Follow us for more- and visit our website to ship anywhere in the lower 48 today!
