Very pleased to have played a small part in an exciting story driven by the brilliant Pengli…ER-resident CLIMP63, P180, KTN1 interact with specific MT subpopulations (as defined by certain PTMs) in order to position organelles.

“None of the covid science makes sense”?!? How much of the primary literature have you read. Because I’ve read an awful lot and I’d be curious which parts you think don’t make sense.
Yours,
An actual scientist
Putting an alternate spin on this...it’s not every day you can save a life by sitting at home watching Netflix and eating snacks!! Be a hero...

Our perspective on endoplasmic reticulum structure has now been published! In this review, we (
@cjobara
@JLS_Lab
) examine the diverse nanoscale ER structures that have been described by light (see below) and electron microscopy.
You know you’ve gone

when you ask a bloke in the pub if you can take a photo of his beer because it looks like the ER....in my defence this is one of the better examples I’ve seen.

Ohhh boyyyy. Thank god they are recording talks at
#cellbio2020
!!! Definitely beats my usual running from one session to another and missing BOTH talks
Inside the chromatophore cell, pigment granules are enclosed in an elastic sac, called the cytoelastic sacculus. To change colour the animal distorts the sacculus form or size by muscular contraction, changing its translucency, reflectivity, or opacity 🦑

Here’s the big one: In collaboration with
@Honigmann_Lab
,
@LabShevchenko
, Björn Drobot and Martin Hof we present a general workflow for imaging the localization and transport of individual lipids in cells and mapping their metabolism.
Excuse the pun, but pumped to get this project primed with the brilliant

WOW...Imaging actin subpopulations on organelles...Read this absolutely incredible thread by
@manorlaboratory
. One of the best paper breakdowns I’ve seen on Twitter. Informative and super entertaining. Congrats amigo - can’t wait to read the paper in full!
My very first senior author manuscript. Equally important: My very first preprint! So stoked to finally be a direct participant in this long overdue process for accelerating biology.
Actin chromobody imaging reveals sub-organellar actin dynamics
High-dimensional super-resolution imaging reveals heterogeneity and dynamics of subcellular lipid membranes

Resolving membrane morphology, polarity and phase reveals lipid heterogeneities across and within different organelles.
That saddest thing is that RBG had to leave our world in this, of all moments...we must ensure that her fight for a progressive and equal society endures and continues to permeate though our lives in spite of those that might conspire against it

Our paper is now out in
@ScienceAdvances
!
We found that the disease-causing “Z” mutant of α1-antitrypsin “gums-up” the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) by forming a solid matrix, shown here by hypotonic shock… 1/8
Bonus content! I don't think this movie made the final paper, but I still think it's one of my favorite examples of a metaphase mitochondrion pushed around by an actin comet tail.

Just got back from a remarkable few days at the first
@FASEBorg
conference in West Africa - in Accra, Ghana! Great science, even better people. Hopefully the first of many!! We must do more to support research and researchers in this part of the world…
(2/9)This all started in 2017 as a "quick side project" on the back of an amazing summer
@MBLPhys
where we first tried single molecule tracking (sptPALM) in the ER alongside an awesome group of (then) students (

)
The

The first day in a while that my feed hasn’t been filled with

vibes for a while 😖. Thanks to everyone for making it such a great conference! So good to see so many friends doing awesome science and doing so well!!
👀👀 If anyone knows of a good compendium/database of new investigator or start up grants that are eligible to ECRs & institutes in the UK and would be happy to share…that would be awesome! Thank you kindly!! 🍻on me 😬! Please RT

Some years back my grandma was telling her friends about my PhD but calling it an HGV (heavy goods vehicle license)…in fairness, I’m sure the HGV would have paid better
It’s nice when you can say about a colleague, with 100% confidence, that their lab will be fantastic! Lucky enough to have heard about some of the projects and they are SUPER exciting. Any chemists, particularly those interested in building new and exciting imaging probes. RT!!!
I’m thrilled to share that I will be joining
@EMBL
as a Group Leader this fall! I am really excited to start building the team, and there are PhD positions available to do some fun chemistry! Applications are now open through the EMBL International PhD Programme, please RT.
Maria is a brilliant scientist and great human and the projects she has on the go are super cool! What an opportunity for neuroscientists and cell biologists alike!!
The Ioannou lab is hiring! We are looking for a talented postdoctoral fellow to join our team to study lipid droplets in the brain. See for more details.
The other day I was told by a stranger in a pub that the reason people get dementia is because “electrons in your brain get confused on where to go”....

A neuronal growth cone photographed through an electron microscope. I removed the microtubules after extraction but before fixation. Otherwise, all of the fine actin filament based structures in the middle (i.e., Central domain) would be obscured by microtubules.
