Genuinely brilliant to see an electric train running on part of the Transpennine line, east of Manchester. There’s still a long way to go, but this is a big step forward towards a clean, fast, electrified railway link between West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester 🚆

There’s an interesting debate to be had about the accountability of Mayoral Combined Authorities, and whether we should look towards the directly elected London Assembly - although I know the Assembly faces criticism - as a potential model to follow.
