If Westminster can't find housing projects
- even with £1.9Bn to spend -
it's time for Yorkshire to control its own affairs
A regional parliament could lead the way,
regenerating derelict sites with greener homes,

Well done Poland
Sacrificing a place in the World Cup - and they were favourites for at least the game against Russia
But they shouldn't have to

We'll keep working
We're getting there

West Yorkshire Mass Transit System
Bus passes valid 24/7
Electric buses
Help for Health & social care workers with travel/parking costs
Greener homes on rejuvenated derelict sites+new infrastructure
Vote until 10pm
Postal voters CAN still vote
Excellent words from Stephen Kinnock -it is about honouring the vote. Even some Remain voters won't vote again otherwise. It doesn't make him or I Brexiteers (like Kinnock, I voted Remain) it makes us democrats. Let's get it done & get back to transport, environment, policing etc
Since 2016 the result of the referendum hasn't changed, & neither has my position. We need to deliver best possible deal that protects jobs.
Time for MPs to compromise, get Brexit done, and move onto talking about jobs, NHS, education, housing & other crucial issues.

Desperately sad news, my thoughts and prayers are with Sir David Amess's family.
Everyone in democracy must unite against violence.
Everyone in the country must unite against violence.
Happy Yorkshire Day!
After three-quarters or people supported powerful devolution in Yorkshire Society Survey, I feel more confident than ever that we will get there.
I support the Nordic Model &

As Yorkshire Party has said for years
We support greater rail capacity & speed but condemn the project management of HS2
No budgetary control
Guess who's levelled down to make ends meet?
Not London
Not Birmingham
Not Manchester
But Leeds
& by extension much of Yorkshire & NE

The Government's objective is to distract from...well, everything else, by using inflammatory rhetoric
So much for:
integrity
professionalism
accountability
The Home Office is still perpetuating dangerous anti-immigration rhetoric. It does not speak for desperate migrants. It does not speak for businesses crying out for staff. And it certainly does not speak for me | Sue Wilson MBE

MPs with these sorts of earning outside their duties as elected members does sicken me
They should be honoured to serve and be grateful for a generous salary
I've never earned a penny from politics
If was elected Mayor or MP, I wouldn't seek out other earnings
We need a West Yorkshire Metro system - with highspeed arties, via underground and/or elevated segments
The estimate (very rough) I've heard from the Combined Authority is £40Bn
Even then, the lines on the map were minimally ambitious

So that's why it's called 'the rainy season'?
Shame no one told the ICC before they arranged yet another tournament without reserve days for group stage matches

In London you'd pay less than half and travel more than twice the speed
We need a West Yorkshire mass transit system
It's not even on the Labour Mayor's 10 priorities
And the Tory's keep funding London & ignore Yorkshire
Today’s experience - The Bus.

"When Keir Starmer thinks of the north - if he thinks of it at all - he thinks only of the big cities."
PM Rishi Sunak expresses that his "view of the north" extends "far beyond" the Labour leader as he speaks at a Conservative conference.
📺 Sky 501
Well intentioned but typical of what you get with weak devolution
No real budget
No real power
No real ambition
With real devolution we could subsidise solar panels on existing buildings & have them on all new builds
Yorkshire needs its own Parliament in a stronger, fairer UK
As we approach Winter, families in West Yorkshire will be worried about the cost of heating their homes.
We’ve secured over £800k of funding to provide free, face-to-face advice to communities about the improvements and savings they can make to their homes.
London has more powerful devolution than Yorkshire or any English region
- Look what they can do
Yorkshire deserves the power to make the same decisions
🚨EXC Boris Johnson to water down promise on Northern Powerhouse Rail line
This week’s Integrated Rail Plan will not contain a key new Leeds-Manchester line via Bradford, and will instead see more cash for upgrades to existing route
Labour has proposed some steps in the right direction and good principles
But I'm disappointed (as many Labour members will be)
Yorkshire needs so much more
Delighted for Doncaster, gutted for Middlesbrough - the heritage & royal connections criteria went against it, being less than 200yo
Milton keynes got it despite being 55yo. But then, it has lots of ill-deserved things, like a league football team
The fairest tax is Income Tax since the broadest shoulders may take the greatest load.
NI is rather the opposite. I oppose the hike in NI, this is not a progressive or fair tax increase.
Lower paid workers including many younger adults and families will be hit hard.
@MayorOfWY
It is a nice idea but we need to improve bus services dramatically before we can increase usage
Moreover, we need a proper mass transit system,
a light-rail network throughout West Yorkshire
linking to existing heavy rail where appropriate
I'm always happy to work cross-party
Brilliant husting
@SameSkiesThink
Far more listening to community groups than talking
Your community group is worth my time & the time of LD, Green & Tory candidates
Yet again,
@TracyBrabin
was absent
Tired of Labour taking you for granted?
Teach them a lesson on May 6th
With a Yorkshire Regional Parliament, similar to Scotland's, our elected representatives would make investment decisions
eg, a West Yorkshire rapid mass transit system
Instead, the Mayor is a merely a spectator, hoping the Tories do the right thing
What is your vote worth?
No more excuses. No more false dawns. It’s time to create a mass transit system for the biggest city in Europe without one.

Mixed news, well, more possibilities than news
As we knew, not getting our leg of HS2
Leeds might get a tram network (long overdue)
But it's a network for the whole of West Yorkshire which is required, linking to rail networks outside West Yorkshire
Thank you to everyone who voted for me! I was re-elected to Rawdon Parish Council in Larkfield in 1st place with 435 votes & came a respectable 3rd in the city council ward. My Yorkshire Party colleague Roland Gilmore was also elected to Rawdon PC in 2nd in Greenacre with 213!
Candidates have to pay £4,000 to appear in the mayoral election booklet
It prices some people and parties out of democracy
It is not acceptable to get it after postal votes
#DrBob4Mayor
#YorkshireParty
Alec doesn’t allow me to comment on his post. I was hoping to ask him, as my MP, whether he’d be objecting to people being sent their postal vote ballot paper before receiving their £1m Mayoral booklet offering information on the different candidates that taxpayers have funded
But what powers would Yorkshire get?
(and every English region)
Proper devolution would mean the ability to deal with the cost of living crisis, poor transport, etc, despite the Westminster state circus
Many Lords are on our side but the Government absolutely do not care about true Yorkshire devolution or funding. Alas, neither do Labour - another conference wasted.
The more I think on Labour's sham devolution proposals, the more disappointed I am with myself for hoping for anything better
As
@Yorkshire_Party
has said many times, Labour is a London party
(Tories too)
Local Labour members may support real devolution but London's in control
A final thought on today's budget...
Listen To The Silence
Nothing on the Eastern leg of HS2
Nothing on Northern Powerhouse Rail (Hull-Liverpool)
Nothing on a West Yorkshire mass transit system
Public spending is £2,600 lower per person in Yorkshire than London and Scotland
- that's a shortfall of over £14 billion across Yorkshire

Boris has the nerve to say we should "KEEP levelling-up"
When has he done that?
Eastern Leg of HS2 cancelled
Bradford's new railway station cancelled
No move on Hull-Liverpool rail-link
All while London gets Crossrail, Crossrail 2 is proposed & London's parts of HS2 are built
Tracy Brabin suddenly 'not supportive' of Holbeck red light zone, one week before the election. Nice to know I've won the argument but...
I will END the red light zone
Will
@TracyBrabin
make that committment - or is it just spin?

Some Tories admin levelling-up has failed
They're calling for
- more spending in North
- Hull-Liverpool rail-link
- cabinet minister for the North
That last point admits mayors are powerless
Let's elect a regional Parliament instead
#YorkshireParty
Great day in Bridlington campaigning with Cllr Andy Walker & Rick Arrand for
@Yorkshire_Party
We'll keep campaigning for:
Actual levelling-up
A greener Yorkshire
& to stop the Tory-driven reduction in Bridlington's health services
.
The Yorkshire Party welcomes these proposals too, which would benefit Scotland, the North East and Yorkshire
Let's hope the right decision is made
It should be made by local, devolved powers - many such lines would have been be reopened already or would never have closed if so
The North East Party welcomes the proposal to open the railway line previously known as the Ashington, Blyth and Tyne Line creating jobs and encouraging public transport use.

100% agree with Benedict Cumberbatch
And let's not forget, many films are pre-censored for Chinese audiences - that is, the original film is rewritten to appease bigotries

Incredible words from Boris today, arguing Cross Rail & proposed Crossrail 2 are somehow levelling-up
Happily talking about more spending in London after cancelling our section of HS2 & Bradford's new station
This isn't just politics - Boris really doesn't care about Yorkshire
Tested negative but still have to isolate until Wednesday because I shared a car ride with someone on Saturday who's tested positive
I will obey the law despite the very low chance of me having/getting C19
Unlike the Health Secretary
Disgrace
Matt Hancock must be sacked
Sunak on levelling up
- No details, vague intent on education
- Then mentioned 1 freeport & crime
Truss on levelling up
- Avoided question & talked about general tax cuts & her trade role abroad
- Then talked about evening up spending per head but no actual promise
Both Poor
Ignored in yesterday's news, huge step towards clean energy
I've called for more fusion research in the UK since first standing for the Yorkshire Party in 2015
Well done the US, shame the UK isn't leading the way
We have the talent but not the focus
Bradford is losing out even more than Leeds
And there isn't even talk of Bradford even getting a consolation prize such a tram network
(Not that Leeds will actually get a proper network, the talk is just to soften the blow)
Dear Followers, it seems someone else on twitter has been confused for me. We do not know their real name, or whether they even intended any confusion, but rest assured they do not represent the
@Yorkshire_Party
in any way.
Government says it's okay to close ticket offices because few people buy tickets there...
That's because they're not allowed to sell the cheapest tickets!
You can't even pick up an online ticket from the office
How about encouraging train-travel with better customer service?
Thanks again to everyone who voted for me and helped me post 24,000 leaflets, flyers and letters. Just learned that 1,530 votes is a new Yorkshire Party record for local elections. I'll be back next year in both Leeds City Council and Rawdon Parish Council elections.
A disappointing day for the UK, especially lower income families
Precious little help - mostly slight reductions in previous large increases
And what's happened to levelling-up?
I think the Tories have thrown in the towel, reasoning that it's better just not to talk about it
just a quick update for the weekend
@MyDoncaster
and
@MayorRos
are very optimistic that a lease will be secured for the airport from
@PeelLandP
who now appear to be willing landlords and are actively seeking to lease the site to the council.
So with some hard work from all
Thanks again to the press for the coverage, why not celebrate Yorkshire Day properly? Some employers recognise it already...
In case you don't, Yorkshire day is tomorrow!
Tory arrogance
And an accidental admission that Mayors are powerless and budget-less
Andy Burnham is democratically elected
- why should he have to beg the Tories for anything?
- why shouldn't he have a proper budget to control?
Surprisingly testy atmosphere at the Integrated Rail Plan inquiry earlier. Tory MP Karl McCartney questioned whether Andy Burnham understood the phrase 'do not bite the hand that feeds you' over public criticisms of the IRP. Burnham replied: "I want to get what we were promised."
The Yorkshire Party is contesting 44 top level council seats when you include by-elections in East Riding & N Yorks CC, 46 including Mayors of Doncaster & W Yorks, 51 including town/parish. However you look at it, it's a new party record & 11th aint bad you only contest 1 county.
Just going to throw this out there:
HS3 should be a high speed and high capacity rail like across the North of England linking Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, York and Hull.
Extra lines to Sheffield, Bradford, Derby and Lancaster would be great too.
Continued trying to become a US citizen for 19 months AFTER become Chancellor
His wife was a non-dom, avoiding tax
Fined for breaching lockdown laws
Balanced the books by cutting Yorkshire's rail project's, not London's
...but apart from that
What've we learned?
1) There's no way back for Tories
2) Labour will win the GE
3) But many don't like Labour either -not brave or decisive
Smaller parties can bring balance
We need local powers & funding

Northern transport is not only much worse but far more expensive than London's
We also need more light & heavy rail across Yorkshire
Northern Mayors are pushing for more funding. If we had actual devolution, we would have our fair share already & not have to go cap in hand

Delighted that Boris Johnson, the worst PM of modern times, is resigning.
Though I am concerned he is staying on until the autumn - he may be even more reckless than in the past
We note
@JLPartnersPolls
have polled Wakefield. The poll excluded the party that came third in Wakefield in the 2017 GE, the 2021 West Yorks Mayor Election and the 2022 locals - the Yorkshire Party.
Embarrassing ignorance of politics outside the South East

Moving the Champions League Final is a good start, now FIFA needs to kick Russia out of the World Cup play-offs
UEFA also needs to remove Russia and her clubs from all competitions
Then it's the Olympic Committee's turn to PROPERLY exclude Russia
With plenty of brownfield sites (ex-industrial, derelict) around Yorkshire to regenerate, there's no excuse for a shortage of new homes
Nor any excuse for a lack of infrastructure to support new homes
London gets transport investment, so must Yorkshire
There is not a rental shortage: there is a property shortage. Build more.
Every chain starts with either a landlord expanding their portfolio or a first-time buyer. If first-time buyers are coming into the market, that's a good thing.
