@softndeadly Nail your traversal early on! Players are going to spend a lot of time doing that. It also affects many other aspects of design. Consider gameplay (ie Spiderman's web swinging), narrative (The Witcher's question marks) and art (Assassin's Creed's landmarks)

Again, this is absolutely true - you don't need a degree, and definitely don't need a "videogame" degre. But! If you are considering working or moving abroad - a common career path in games, you *will* benefit from a degree for visa, immigration, and travel purposes.
