I think portraying Xiao as a literal baby in fanarts ruined some people's interpretation of his character and his relationship with Zhongli. It's weird if a father treats an adult son with cuddles, kisses and cute words, but not a baby. And I think that's the problem here.

It's ok to enjoy dark interpretations of Zhongli but he is not like that in canon. He is not abusive and manipulative, specifically towards Xiao. In fact, he is quite the opposite. He cherishes Xiao and goes out of his way to take care of him. We've seen this happen many times.
