As you already know, Crimean Tatars are a Muslim ethnic minority indigenous to the Crimean Peninsula. Our people became a minority in own homeland, as a result of xenophobia and genocide after the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 1783 and the deportation in 1944.

Today, 60-year-old political prisoner Dzhemil Gafarov was buried in Crimea. He died in a Russian pre-trial detention center, where he was not provided with the necessary medical care. About 600 people came to see the political prisoner off on his last journey. Video: CS

Her name is Safiye. She signs a postcard for her father in prison. 2 years ago, a Russian court sentenced him to 19 years in prison. He was taken in custody from Crimea to Rostov-on-Don and then to Mordovia.

My father’s grandparents, Osman and Fera, with six children were deported from Crimea during “the special NKVD operation”, they were taken to a special settlement in Uzbekistan. From the whole family of 8 people, only my father’s mother Lilya returned to Crimea.

Exactly a year ago, #CrimeanTatar Dzhemil Gafarov died in the Novocherkassk pre-trial detention center. He died because of #torture — he wasn’t provided with medical care or released from custody despite his #disability , sick kidneys and heart.

The Palace of the Crimean Tatar Khans, known as Hansaray, was built in the 16th century. Along with the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul and the Alhambra in Granada, it is one of the three only Muslim palaces found in Europe today. I can't watch how the palace slowly disappears.

The Soviets shot historian Shukri Seytumerov’s grandfather in 1938 on accusation of counter-revolutionary activities. They deported his mother in 1944. And in 2020 the Russian authorities arrested his two sons, on approximately the same charges: preparation for overthrowing power

Russian court jailed Crimean imam for 17 years for one audio recording of a conversation about Islam. In the Southern District Military Court, a guilty verdict was passed against 42-year-old Raif Fevziev, an imam from the Simferopol village of Strogonovka.

My favorite old and authentic area in Bakhchisaray. Orta Camii is one of the oldest mosques in Crimea used to be the main Friday prayer mosque in the capital of Crimean Khanate. The earliest known mention of it was in 1674, as a main mosque of the corresponding district.

The mosque of Khan Ozbek is one of the most famous monuments of Muslim culture in Crimea. It is the oldest surviving mosque in our peninsula. It adjoins the ruins of one of the oldest madrasahs in Europe. She looks amazing when covered in snow.

Until 2014, none of the groups or organizations (which are prohibited in Russia) was recognized as terrorist or extremist in Crimea. No groups were persecuted by the state of Ukraine. Religious and other literature was freely available and studied at the discretion of the person.

The terms of imprisonment which Russian courts hand down are effectively death sentences.  As an example, the longest sentence is 19 years in a maximum-security penal for Muslim Aliev from Yalta and Suleiman Asanov from Bahchisaray.

In the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don, a 42-year-old Crimean Tatar Raif Fevziyev was requested by the Russian prosecutor to serve 17 years in prison. Fevziyev is an imam, a Muslim preacher, in the village of Strohonivka near Crimea's capital, Simferopol.

Today, the Military Court of Appeal in Moscow approved the sentence of journalist of “Crimean Solidarity” Amet Suleymanov and sent him to a colony for 12 years. According to the international classifier of diseases, he cannot be in a pre-trial detention center or in a colony.

Lefortovo District Court in Moscow arrested 25-year-old #CrimeanTatar Leniye Umerova. An investigator of the FSB of Russia filed such a petition on suspicion of espionage. /Art. 276 of the Criminal Code of the RF/. Now she’s in custody in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center.

Сейчас в отделе полиции «Центральный» удерживается Казим Аблялимов, у которого сегодня в Нижнегорском районе Крыма умер пожилой отец. Никому — ни мусульманам, ни христианам не нужно объяснять, что значат для человека похороны родителей, но сотрудникам крымской полиции приходится.

For every sentence in politically motivated cases, #CrimeanTatars express a protest. Dozens of people after such actions came under #persecution , were taken into custody, fined large sums of money. But they continue to act in defense of people persecuted in #Crimea .

In Crimea after release from the russian colony the relatives met #CrimeanTatar political prisoner Arsen Dzhepparov with flowers and posters. He spent 7 years in prison. «Today is probably the happiest day for me — all these years I’ve waited for my son», — Dzhepparov’s mother.
