We really need to stop trying to carry out every single meeting, task, and activity online. Some things just need to be let go. โ€œFlattening the curveโ€ also involves โ€œlowering the barโ€ and prioritizing wellbeing above productivity.

Iโ€™m not sure folks understand whatโ€™s happening in Puerto Rico. Itโ€™s not 1, 2, or even 3 quakes. Itโ€™s THOUSANDS. Itโ€™s constant fear. Its collapsing bridges. Itโ€™s not just about lack of electricityโ€”itโ€™s about fear, anxiety, and uncertainty haunting already debilitated communities

She consistently trashed WOC and questioned their scholarship. She even described my colleague Marisa Fuentes as a "slave catcher" in the introduction to her book. Kind of amazing how white supremacy means she even thought she was better at being a person of color than we were.

Many are appalled by CBS's failure to properly caption Bad Bunny last night, but honestly this is a mood. @sanbenito opened the "Gringo Grammys" (as he calls it) by speaking non-english, wearing a non-outfit, dancing with non-celebrities and honoring what for some is non-music.

Third, she needs to stop with the Dolezal-splaining about how wrong her actions and philosophizing about her punishment. I'm not investing a single drop of energy punishing herโ€” esp not in the middle of a pandemic. Instead, I will recommit to radical self/community care. #bye

Amazing journalistic work about an issue that many have been concerned about but too few are taking seriously: how tax breaks in Puerto Rico are leading to gentrification and displacement.

Thereโ€™s an influx of people moving from the states to Puerto Rico invited by tax breaks. Some locals say theyโ€™re getting pushed out by investors looking to make money. Investors say theyโ€™re creating opportunities. Watch the rest of the video here:

People asking me how to help Puerto Ricoโ€”we don't need your canned goods. Tell your news outlets you want coverage. It's 2020 and they are distracted with the election. During Maria they ignored us till Trump through paper towels. Now they're ignoring us again.

๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿคฉ

The actual NYT articles are important and powerful, but the framing of them is also important. Banks are launching investigations, which is amazing. But we should not let the trope of mystery provide them with the cover of ignorance. 9/n

Engaging with Trouillot also forces us to question all the exceptional language surrounding the piece. The Haitian revolution sparked freedom dreams across the Atlantic, but similarly, the Haitian Debt launched an extractive regime for the postcolonial world. 8/n

Haitians (and those of us who are students of Haiti) might not have had a precise number for the debt, but we had a different kind of knowledge about itโ€”a different calculus โ€”it already framed how we understood our place in the world. 6/n

For those asking how PRicans achieved this movement, a quick thought: 98% is just showing up. On horseback, motorbike, jet ski, bicycle, etc. However you can, from wherever you can. No small feat though: it requires being bold enough to surrender apathy+plunge in w/ no guarantee.

If the Puerto Rico uprising was a Netflix series, the governorโ€™s resignation would be the end of season 1 and this past week of shenanigans the wonky season 2. Iโ€™m really looking forward to getting back to the original storyline in Season 3, which I assume starts today at 5:01pm.

Individual Puerto Ricans are filling the roads to deliver aid. Too bad there is no sort of coordinated government agency to attend to these issues.... ๐Ÿ‘€ In the face of state failure we have and will continue to help ourselves.

Mountain roads in Peรฑuelas, Puerto Rico are clogged right now. Traffic is backed up. So many people are headed to the southern part of the island to deliver water, food, and other supplies.
