Live coding is such a bad idea. Nobody, and I mean nobody, thinks straight when someone else is watching them work. I type 100wpm and if you walk up behind me, it's like all my fingers switched places with each other.

This. I used to work from 9am until 7 or 8pm because I was only able to get any work done after 5pm when everybody left the office. From 9-5 it was constant interruptions and meetings.
@Whotfismick
I would hang over the edge and shout "I'm the king of the world!". I would start out doing this with my wife but she would quickly get annoyed, leaving me to enjoy it alone. So alone...
@VulcanWM
I saw this on HackerNews once. It resonated with me and I think you might find it helpful:
If motivation were a battery you wouldn't try to recharge it and use it at the same time. It might get you a little more uptime but the stress leads to early failure.

Also the ingredients were real ingredients (flour, butter, sugar) and not artificial chemicals to increase shelf life and mouth feel.

When joining a company, ask to spend 2-3 weeks fixing bugs. It will quickly expose you to the entire codebase and solve customer problems at the same time.

I like how the large, self-appointed "team leader" hoists himself on top, adding extra weight to the team's haul, and bumping noses with the guys saying, "Good job. Good Job" instead of helping out.
@Rainmaker1973
"Nah, Jerry, check it... It's this cool rollercoaster that gives you a massage. There's a little pinch at the end but it's fine. 10/10 would do it again."
I know someone who was recently in a pre-interview when the recruiter mentioned there would be a live-coding exercise. The candidate stopped the pre-interview immediately and explained that, if the interviewing team were willing to collaborate on solving a coding problem together
I challenged myself to cold plunge every morning for 100 straight days.

The abstraction of low/no-code platforms isn't the problem, in my opinion. It's the lack of flexibility that code provides. Inevitably, in my experience, the project requirements demand something of you that can only be solved with code.
I'm using sqlite for my analytics app--the first time I've used it for a web project. It is delightful. I really should have been building web applications like this before.

Blog platform with no-code plugins, single-purpose website builder, e-commerce platform. None of them purport to be a low/no-code platform.

By "circumstances" I assume you mean pressure, which is a notion I reject. I've worked in high-pressure situations and not once did someone stand over me judging my code. Interviews are already high-pressure. Why crank it up to eleven in a meaningless way?
I'm building an app called FlyZen for nervous fliers and I'm looking for people to test it and provide feedback. If you or someone you know has a fear of flying, sign up for the early access program at:

This is Australia, an entire continent (and surrounding ocean) of nature that is trying to kill me. The whole thing is probably the snake.

Maybe use the thought that if you get your nutrition in order and develop a regular body-movement habit then you’ll get to continue enjoying those things and much more for a long time. “Eat whatever” is already causing you problems, guaranteed.

If we get AGI by September then I expect, when I ask ChatGPT to only give me JSON as a response, it not say back, "Ok, here is the JSON you requested..." 🤦
@thdxr
All your code on one line. Single-letter or nonsensical variable names whenever possible. Don't test. Don't comment. Don't remove dead code. Pay more attention to how many monitors you have than how good you are at your job.

Makes me think they're trying to weed out people who are listing with little/no intention of actually selling. Like people who go on dating sites just for the attention.
Ugh. I always do this. I get half-way through a new project and then start thinking, "Nobody is going to want this."
I'm disobeying the negative thoughts, though, and pushing on. Even if I'm the only one using it, it's still worth trying.

I suspect one reason why homeschooling can be so effective is that the parents are, by definition, heavily involved in the child's education. If people would stop expecting public schools to be free babysitters and get more involved then we'd likely see a dramatic improvement.
I have an idea. It would be Open Source and would help developers build high-quality web applications in a new and interesting way.
What do you think? Should I build it?

Today, I leveled up my project settings page by adding a sleek display of GitHub repositories.

I'm older. I had that cassette deck with a Commodore VIC-20. Which had a hardware bug what could cause it not to be able to interface with the cassette deck, sadly.

51 and also on no meds. I had a provider tell me she rarely sees someone my age as healthy as I am.
Pretty amazing what proper nutrition and regularly moving your body can do.
I've been bummed for a few days because I'm not sure if any of my ideas are going to get traction. Then I realized, I haven't put them out there. How can I know?
So, I'm going to build them, stick a price on them, and see what happens.

Real Estate in the US is notorious for this. Overuse of HDR and lenses that make everything look significantly larger than it is. I honestly don't know why home buyers don't look the sellers agent right in the eyes and say, "You're a liar who just cost your client a sale."
Well this is nice. I created a Facebook account and somehow inadvertently made it so that it's not available to anyone and now Facebook has suspended it. Hey
@facebook
maybe make it so people can't do that?
I wrote my own (ultra simple) web analytics system so I can compare to what I'm getting from CloudFlare. It's been a fun little project to work on.

I'll straight-up tell them I do. Judging developers for using AI to help them code today is like judging them for using StackOverflow ten years ago.
@RyanEls4
This is one area I don't understand proponents of strongly-typed languages. Dynamic compilers and interpreters do a pretty great job of casting to the appropriate type under the hood and offer the ability to explicitly cast if and when you need it.

Seems like it's partly a matter of trust. She went through nursing school so they inherently trust her whereas many in tech are self-taught.
Still, in almost 30 years I've never interviewed (not putting them through that gauntlet) someone that upon hiring them we found they
