What’s dishonest about this? They didn’t promise a customized study plan or periodic reminders — just asked users to set their own goal.

have you considered that it’s fun just figuring stuff out. it’s fun to solve crossword puzzles even if there’s no point to it. lighten up animal man.

This is exactly what you did to Codecademy Labs, but instead of making a weekend open source project you launched a startup with the idea 😐
I’m constantly reminded of the sheer difference in writing ability between “real” writers and tech influencer substack bloggers. The former manages to suck me into a topic I wasn’t interested in, while the latter manages to bore me in a topic I was already interested in.
I hate it when I’m googling a Unix command and some mf says “just use ‘man’”. Yeah I already tried reading the convoluted reference with zero examples, why do u think I’m here
I've been thinking about how "rtfm" ("read the f'ing manual") culture creates obstacles to good developer experience.
Not only does it lead tool creators to assume users will read docs and follow rules, but users themselves are often hesitant to ask questions and give feedback.
College used to be for intensely pursuing a breadth of knowledge in order to satisfy (and deepen!) intellectual curiosity. Now, if you don’t treat college like a glorified trade school, you’ll struggle to make ends meet.
Saw this insane boomer playing subway surfer in the subway. He has not died once in my 30 min commute. He was still going when I had to leave for my stop. Absolute legend.

Software engineers are as close to the product as possible. They’re far better than non-technical folk in aspects like estimating how long a feature will take to build, if a feature is possible to build at all, if an engineering team is strong or not, etc.

Crypto evangelists: I’m not an artist, but NFTs should help artists 👍
99% of artists: this doesn’t help us at all.
Crypto evangelists: hmmm, it must be the artists that are wrong

Expensive clothes outside of designer might be an exception. For example, a high quality pair of boots will be more comfortable and last longer than a cheap pair.

I worked at Amazon, and you’re spouting nonsense. Backend scalability is a valid concern for millions of orders, but that should be obvious to anyone with a couple of brain cells.
nyc gatekeepers rly are next level. They’re like “yeah you not really from new york if you haven’t fought a 6 foot rat w/ nothing but a bent MTA card and a baconeggandcheese”
@zebulgar
Dunno about this one. Where I live in NYC, there is a large population of Chinese immigrants, so the primary language here is Mandarin. Doesn’t make them any less American.
