The most complete listing of Wichita area restaurants, pop-ups, food trucks, bars, bakers, home-based businesses, caterers you’ll find in the
@CityofWichita
. Hundreds of hours poured into my new directory available today.
Tonight I’ll be reviewing and comparing how the current Wichita unfiltered, unboiled tap water taste versus other store bought water brands like Kroger purified drinking water and Natural Light.
Say a prayer for me.
I dined in at a restaurant 2 weeks ago; the place was dead. The owner told me they've been pretty slow. The food was great and I told her I'd pass the word along to "my friends"
I published my blog on Bann Thai in the morning. By the evening, they sold out of food.
#WordOfMouth
A friend of mine was mocked at QuikTrip for wearing her hijab. I just don’t get it.
Why does a stranger wearing something like a scarf so strongly affect another person? Surely we can be better than that.
If you’re the praying type, say a prayer for my father who had a heart attack and fortunately is in stable condition at the hospital. Unfortunately he will miss seeing all his beloved grandkids over Christmas but we are hoping for a speedy recovery. 🙏
I started receiving tons comments, emails and messages from people outside of Wichita. After looking more into it, my story on Popeyes chicken nuggets was trending on

Soooo cool!
One day my daughter is going to ask me, “Dad, do you love the Shockers more than me?”
I’m going to look her directly in the eyes and say, “No sweetheart. But some days it’s pretty close like when you beat the No. 6 team in the country.”
What. A. Win.
Here’s a complete list I've been able to muster up with links, numbers, addresses of local black-owned restaurants, food trucks, and dining options in Wichita.
This is a working list, so if I missed a place just comment below and I'll update it.
Update. The owners of Bento Cafe reached out to me this evening. Today was the busiest day they’ve ever had in their eight years of business.
So busy, they ran out of rice.
Just to think, the owner was talking to me last night and tearing up. 😭
On the way home from Chuck E Cheese, my daughter said “So much fun!” followed by “I love you, daddy”
The remainder of the drive was spent with happy tears.
There is NEVER a day that goes by where I don’t count my blessings with her. Tell your kids you love them everyday.
Everybody probably knows by now what the Wichita city flag looks like.
I don’t know if the City of Eastborough has a flag. If they don’t, I propose this design.
It was a beautiful night, with lots of going on & plenty to choose from. And many people chose Riverfront Stadium. Congrats to the
@WindSurgeICT
on a record attendance of 10,442.
It's been quite a year for our baseball team under new ownership.

What I learned thru all of this:
Some people just suck and can never be pleased.
Imagine being a lifelong asst coach. Taking over a team essentially at the start of the season. A team with 7 newcomers. Picked to finish 7th.
Then shocking the AAC by winning the regular season, becoming a millionaire and the unanimous coach of the year. congrats

To all the readers who showed me support throughout the year, stay tuned. I have more up my sleeve for next year that I cannot wait to share with you. Wichita By E.B. will continue to grow and offer more ways to be a true benefit to Wichita that goes beyond just dining.
Ten years ago, I launched a website called Wichita By E.B.
It's been a wild and crazy journey that has introduced me to so many experiences, opportunities, people and food. Thank you to all those who have followed me on this Wichita adventure
It’s official. 20 years since I took my last class at
@WichitaState
, I’ll be back on campus preparing to teach my first class.
Stay tuned for more information on hour to sign up!
Found out today that
@KAKEnews
was promoting a list of restaurants opened they claimed as their own work. Its a replica of all the hours of my hard work. Upsetting a big name station wouldn’t even provide credit to the original person. Such a shame Kake.
Man, that Super Bowl halftime show makes me want to call some friends on their home phone or send a page on their pagers to meet me at The Cowboy, Americas Pub or Graham Central Station later tonight. Great memories.
My mother has had dementia for a while. Spending time can be sad sometimes when she can’t remember my daughters name, small trivial things we take for granted. But it really makes me pause life and appreciate it when she’s holding my daughter and her eyes light up with joy.
GRILL MASTER: Javion Napier is a freshman at South High. On Saturday’s he grills hamburgers and hotdogs— using the proceeds to directly benefit the homeless community. 🍔🌭
@WichitaPolice
honored him yesterday for his service to the community.
When you hear the name Kirstie Alley, what comes to mind?
For me, it’s being at home in the living room watching Cheers on our old school television with wood panels.
RIP to Wichita’s own.
365 Days of Wichita. Day 9: This one needs no introduction but let's just say it. Old Mill Tasty Shop, one of oldest restaurants in Wichita. They've been around because they're delicious.

Welcome to 365 Days of Wichita. I want to highlight one local business, event, charity or anything, once a day, every day this year. First up. Cafe Bel Ami. Located at 229 E William St, they offer French Mediterranean. Check them out.

It sucked to hear the news about Denise Neil’s cancer. I mean let’s face it, she is the true O.G. when it comes to food blogging in Wichita.
And without
@deniseneil
, there would likely be no Wichita By E.B.
Here is actual proof that Kellogg construction has been going on for 65 million years.
This is back when Kellogg was just a one-way street and before dinosaurs and yellow taxis went extinct.
When I returned, I was handed an envelope. I thought it was going to be a thank you letter. Nope. $300 cash.
It was a kind gesture but I couldn’t accept the money. I returned the money and asked the money be given to their staff. A simple Thank you works just as good 😊
A chain restaurant reached out to me and wants to partner on a social media campaign to highlight their food for the “Wichita State Shockers Football Season which kicked off over the weekend”.
Do I go along with it for the free food? Or tell them we don’t have a football team?
Big shout out to When Pigs Fly! They helped us deliver meals to nurses over at St Joe’s. We were prepared to pay for the meals and the Choy family who own When Pigs Fly insisted it was on them.
Thanks to the Choys & When Pigs Fly for helping our cause to feed nurses.

So good to be back at the Roundhouse. Towel waiving is a work in progress but we have all season to work on that.

Will there be any training sessions for this?
People have asked me why I continue to eat out. It’s stories like this, that push me to do so. It’s not just about the businesses struggling, it’s the people too.

365 Days of Wichita. Day 15: Surrounded my so much controversy whether we ever needed it but I’m here to say I love INTRUST Bank Arena and all the memories it has brought to Wichita.

After already being open and slow for a couple days, word on the street is Jumbos Beef & Brew was so slammed tonight they had to turn off the open sign.

I pinch myself all the time, confused and astonished how a small blog ever became a “thing”. Like is this real life?

I gave a teacher at
@WichitaState

@wsutech
the opportunity to write a couple blogs for my website. They were advised not to do it by WSU leadership. As an alum, booster, supporter and even member of one of the boards at WSU, it's disappointing to hear such news.
Tonite at Leo’s Taqueria, a dad purchased 2 tacos and for he and his kids. 2 tacos for a family!!! Were they struggling? Who knows but it didn’t matter.
Before they left, the Leo stopped the family and gave them more food to make sure they didn’t leave hungry.

365 Days of Wichita. Day 25: Each for cheap at Fried Rice, the epitome of hole in the walls. Located at 2419 S Glendale, you get fried rice, an egg roll and off-brand pop for what feels like pennies on the dollar!

I've debated writing about mental health and depression for so long.
But after recent news, I decided to go ahead and do it. If you're ever feeling sad, depressed, angry and don't know why or what to do about it. There are so many avenues to get help. Find someone to talk to.
While sitting at the barbershop I overheard a man say he paid $12k in child support and missed his child’s first 2yrs. He justified it as someone else dealing with the long nights & dirty diapers. I felt bad for him because, I’d pay $12k to relive the first year with my daughter
Congrats to
@craigporter0
Not many people would have bet on Porter making it to the league. Wasn’t even voted all first or second team in the American conference but here he is making the opening day roster in the freaking NBA.
Hard work pays off.
Wichita: We need more healthy and clean eating restaurants.
Also Wichita: But we won’t support the ones we had over the years enough to keep them open. Speaking of which, where can I get a good greasy burger?
What an awesome event put on by
@armchairnil
last night at
@MarkArtsKS
. It was a great time reliving the
@GoShockers
Final 4 run and hearing from the players themselves.
Let’s do it again at 20.
When one of Wichita’s local restaurant owners thought I should stick to writing reviews on Google, Facebooks, Yelp and comment cards. I doubled down on my blog and blew it up.
The owner of Wichita Fish Co., Larry Towns, passed away on Monday. Just two days later, his wife Judy, is back at work and running the restaurant.
Even thru these difficult times, they want to share the love of food with people. Go support this family if you can this week.
The Bad News: Someone stole the picnic table at Sport Burger.
The Good News: We will be delivering a replacement picnic table in the next week. Thanks to everybody who reached out to help. We have some awesome people in the community. Stay tuned for more!

I think I’ll make a snowman today. Then go for a nice swim outside, play a round of golf, catch a tan, watch a couple tornados, check Facebook for earthquake alerts and call it a day.
Next time someone says “One person can’t make a difference”, think again
10+ years of busting my ass on creating engaging content. People want their news & stories in many ways from many different voices. The city deserves as many ways to get news as they do places to get tacos
Don’t be leaving any one-star ratings today because you had to spend a little more time with your mother waiting on food or a table. Enjoy the company.
Something you don't see often. A new bookstore opening in Wichita.
Make way for a west side Barnes & Noble to take over the Bed Bath & Beyond space in NewMarket Square.
Someone left a one-star review for Grandma Thuy’s on Google because they were too busy to answer their phone.
Not sure if people know, but the restaurant has been short-staffed and sometimes can't get to the phone. I'm here to leave my 5-star review.
