We're moving the Snow Meter for Thursday morning into the "Likely" category. Trends have been increasing the likelihood that snow will accumulate, especially along and north of the I-40 corridor where a dusting to 2" or so look possible at the moment. Stay tuned for changes.
HEADS UP: We're watching for a chance of severe storms Thursday afternoon/evening. The main threats look to be heavy rain, along with damaging wind gusts. However, an isolated tornado can't be ruled out. We'll track the system carefully and update you as necessary.

on Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina tonight. Thanks to Ethan Clark for the photo!
UPDATED SNOW MAP (as of 10am Tuesday): The trend is the same, more snow east & less snow west. However, the chance of snow totals in excess of 2" has increased, especially near/east of the Triad.
The forecast will be updated through the day. Stay tuned.
#Florence
is expected to begin a period of rapid intensification over the next 48hrs.
It'll be approaching the East Coast late next week.
If it does make landfall and head towards the Piedmont, flooding will be one of the big concerns around here.
WATCHING FRIDAY: For now, we're keeping the Snow Meter in the "Possible" category for Thursday night into Friday. Still questions about how much moisture will be available & exactly how cold temperatures will be, that remain to be answered. We'll keep you updated.

The Triad has been upgraded to a "slight" risk for severe storms tonight, which is a 2 out 5 on our scale.
Our main concern is still damaging winds but a brief tornado can't be ruled out. We'll be tracking it for you throughout the night. Stay weather aware.
RAIN THIS WEEK: The center of Alberto will stay far away from the Piedmont, but we'll still receive plenty of rain from this system as we head through the week.
STORM IMPACTS:
SNOW:
3-6" of snow/sleet accumulation in many locations.
In general, amounts will be higher N & NW of the Triad, and lower S & SE of the Triad.
TRAVEL:
The roads will be slick in spots tonight into Saturday.
These storms, that have prompted tornado warnings are moving fast at about 55mph to the NE. Find your safe spot now.
If you live in Elon or Burlington you have about a 10 minute window to to find your safe spot until the storm approaches.

@WFMY
HEADS UP: We'll have to watch out for a few severe storms Wednesday afternoon, mainly along and north of I-40. Right now, the threat looks low, but we'll keep you updated with any changes.
6:41am - Slick spots are starting to develop in some areas on bridges and overpasses. If you have to be out and about in the Piedmont this morning, exercise caution especially on elevated surfaces.
#StormTrack2
A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect for most of the viewing area from midnight-8am Thursday morning. Slick spots may be possible for the Thursday morning commute.
#StormTrack2
CHRISTMAS EVE: We're in for a windy & wet day tomorrow. Winds may gust up to 50mph through the day, and a few strong to severe storms with brief stronger wind gusts can't be ruled out. The best chance for heavy rain will be during the afternoon/evening hours.
#StormTrack2
HEADS UP: You'll want to look up Thursday night. Between 11:30pm and 12:10am there could be a burst of meteors. It's worth checking out.
There will be scattered clouds, but we should be able to see some if we're lucky.
The chance of seeing accumulating snow across the Triad is decreasing, BUT there's still hope for a little later today. 1-2" of snow is still possible. So what happened? Two big issues: more dry air and more sleet than expected. Those are HUGE limiting factors.

11am
#Dorian
Update: Dorian is now expected to become a major Category 3 hurricane as it approaches the Southeast US this weekend.
We'll have to keep an eye on this one even here in the Carolinas in case the track trends northward.
4:50am - Tracking a line of showers and storms moving into the Triad. A few of the embedded cells may become severe, with damaging wind as the main threat.
#StormTrack2
9:11pm -Tracking a thunderstorm moving east along the Forsyth/Stokes County line. It's not severe, but it'll produce heavy rain and could produce wind gusts up to 50mph.
We're under a Flash Flood Watch for tomorrow and Saturday. Heavy rainfall amounts will be a problem, especially considering the melting snow and clogged drains.

@WFMY
