A story that West Side Rag broke is the top trending story on Apple News with a link to CNN, but neither CNN nor ABC gave credit to West Side Rag so we get 0 hits from it. This is how local news dies. โฆ

Upper West Sider Who Broke Her (Rent-Stabilized!) Lease to Flee to Vermont Finds Rural Bliss Didnโt Last
A vigil on the Upper West Side drew so many people that they couldnโt all fit inside, and huddled together on the sidewalk and in the street. Photo by Aviva Zablocki.

New York has lost a symbol of freedom and resilience.
#FlacotheOwl
has died. Apparently, he succumbed to injuries sustained in a crash into a building on West 89th Street on Friday night.
After the Central Park Zoo stated yesterday that they will halt attempts to capture Flaco, New Yorkers marveled at him in a tree close to Bethesda Fountain. The 13-year-old Eurasian eagle-owl had escaped from the zoo on February 2nd after his enclosure was vandalized.
Whoa!
Apparently
@BrianLehrer
just quoted a story from West Side Rag about dog poop to the mayor.
This is the Oscars of hyperlocal NYC journalism. โIโd like to thank my neighbor Joel, the gang from the dog run, and all the guys at the bodega...โ
Since Russia invaded Ukraine, the Redleners have been helping displaced, orphaned, kidnapped, and maimed children whose lives have been disrupted in countless, devastating ways by the war.
Tents are being set up outside the two biggest hospitals on the Upper West Side

Please please please switch the link on your couch in a tree story. West Sude Rag broke it and once again TV didnโt credit our reporting. Local news matters and we canโt survive if we donโt get clicks for stories we break.
The Metro Theater on Broadway between 99th and 100th Streets, which has been closed for 17 years, is coming back as a "Community Entertainment Center," with 20 "restaurant-theaters."
Angel Calderon, a doorman on the UWS, tackled a mugger in the subway last week, and died afterwards.
A tenant in his building remembered him in a column for us:
Props to
@business
for crediting West Side Rag for breaking the story about Starbucks closing several stores because of protest concerns. NY1, ABC and several others did not give credit.
A fundraiser for Westsider Books that started on a West Side Rag post has already raised $13,000! If it gets to $50,000, the owner tells us he'll stay open!!!
Photos and video: Jonah Hill directing a Vampire Weekend video at Zabar's while shoppers continue to shop!
(One even complained that it was interrupting her dinner!)
There was one key question in the impeachment saga that the mainstream media didn't answer.
But we got to the bottom of it...
Here's what was in the Zabar's bag that Jerry Nadler brought onto the House floor right before the big vote:
Tonight, after applause for first responders/essential workers died down, a gal stepped to her window on 92nd/W End Ave + belted out a 4-star rendition of "I Could Have Danced All Night."This one's for you

Our traffic stats show which media companies have the most ethical policies about crediting where they find their news. It's clear
@Gothamist
and
@EaterNY
in particular are doing it right (which benefits their readers too). Huge props to them. Support ethical news sites!
If youโve walked on West 81st Street between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues in the last few years, you may have crossed paths with Achilles, a cat who hangs out in front of a townhouse all day long, unfazed by the city chaos, watching life go by.
An
@AOC
staffer dissed the Upper West Side in a recent interview. But this neighborhood gave more than any neighborhood in the country to her campaign!

@KrupaMichelle
Can you please link to our story that broke the news about the bag on the subway with $10,000? When big news orgs follow up on stories that local sites break itโs important to give credit. ABC did not break this story, we did:
Three female tourists from Texas were arrested Thursday for allegedly attacking a hostess at Carmineโs restaurant on 91st and Broadway, because she asked to see their vaccination cards, an NYPD spokesperson told WSR.

โฉ, cars now regularly ignore the barricades on WEA and are driving between 87 and 95th despite the presence of kids playing. If youโre going to let cars drive freely, then you shouldnโt create the illusion of safety.
