Mine is super simple. I love the ability to see a situation and react to it. Reactions, far more than planning, are what I find fun in RTS. This is why I think I've been drawn to games with shorter planning loops and more room for reactive play, like C&C and COH in particular.

Is it important to you that an RTS tries to 'sell' its fiction to you in-game? For instance, in C&C and StarCraft units just 'appear' next to the Barracks, but in Dawn of War 2 units are dropped off in front of the command post in various ways, which 'explains' how they arrive
