Let’s not romanticize the idea of learning under trees. What will teachers use as black boards? What happens when it rains? How many trees to sit 1000 kids? Per school? In 9 months, classes would have been built. So much would have been done. Kenyan kids deserved better.

In Murang’a, we deliver over 40K cups of fortified porridge each day. We work with local Boda Boda riders to deliver in these specially designed carriers and churns in difficult terrain. We’ve also hired and trained parents to cook and maintain quality. Over 1000 jobs created.

Spoke today at the #GABI #unstoppableAfrica forum in NewYork City about the need for African governments and philanthropy on the continent to invest in nutrition for Africa’s largest demographic-children. Africa is the future and the future is now-we must take care of the basics.

Thank you @SakajaJohnson for articulating the issue of School Feeding in yesterday’s #NairobiGubernatorialDebate . Kids who miss lunch are likely to miss 3 hours of schooling each day equating to 1/3 of their education missed. Nairobi children deserve better. #FeedingTheFuture
