I was briefed today on this tragic murder. The mother parked her car to get urgent groceries while heading for a shelter. Her 5 children stayed in the car.

We are deeply sorry - 5 children of one of our employees were killed last night, when the Israeli military bombed northern Gaza.

What a terrible news to wake up to. An Israeli sniper shot journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in the head while she was on assignment in Jenin in the occupied West Bank. I grew up watching Shireen on TV. She is a household name in the Arab world.

I refuse the zero-sum approach, either us or them, in the Holy Land. Because there is no zero-sum in God's Kingdom that is here and that is yet to come.

A prophetic Christian voice is not a “balanced” voice. Rather, it's a voice which calls out injustice and defends the poor, the widow, the orphan and the oppressed.
I'm grateful for people like Joyce Lin who answer God's calling on their lives to do good & help the poor, not without risks for their own safety. Joyce's plane crashed while transporting rapid test kits & school supplies to a village in Papua, Indonesia
@DrMoore
you did not discuss Israel's injustice against Palestinians, killing of civilians over decades, its rejection of the 2-state solution. If underlying causes of the conflict are not addressed, US support to Israel will continue to fuel the conflict, not bring about peace.

Christian human rights advocacy is rooted in the firm belief that every person is created in the image of God. Therefore - and I need to keep reminding myself of this - Christian human rights advocacy does not demonize the oppressor nor idealize or idolize his victims.
69 Palestinians were killed by Israelis in the West Bank since 7 Oct. There's no Hamas in the West Bank. The injustice of the occupation and the lack of hope in a just political solution fuel the violence. These must be addressed to advance peace and security in the Holy Land.
This is how Israeli forces killed Taha Mahameed, 16, this dawn in Nour Shams Refugee Camp, the West Bank.
They also shot his dad who tried to evacuate him & let Taha bleed for 30 mins, preventing any ambalance to approach.

This is unacceptable. The collateral damage of Mr Graham's "religious war" is our Christian witness. Our Christian faith requires from us to hold firm to the humanity & dignity of every human being regardless of their religious background - not standing with Israel or with Hamas.
@TGC
How is this related to our Gospel witness? Do you know what is happening in the Middle East? EU officials saying “we may be about to see massive ethnic cleansing.” Do you support that??
The FT quotes EU officials saying “we may be about to see massive ethnic cleansing” and "we’ll pay a heavy price in the global south [for supporting it]".
This is insane. They're predicting a "massive ethnic cleansing": why on earth is it so hard to, at

Hamas did great evil on October 7. But are you aware that since then, Israel has killed 4,300 Palestinians, almost half of them children? That 2 million people in Gaza have no water, food, medicine, fuel?
It’s impossible to be at the Rafah crossing & not feel heartbroken.
Behind these walls there are 2 million people in Gaza with no water, food, medicine, fuel.
On this side, these trucks have what they need.
We need to make them move—as soon as possible, as many as necessary.

Israel's attack today on Al Ahli hospital is a terrible déjà-vu. When I was a teenager in Lebanon, in 1996, I remember the news of Israel attacking a UN compound in Qana, a village in southern Lebanon. 106 were killed, half of them children. I am very angry. 1/4

Extreme violence in the Middle East is not new. Remember the question addressed to Jesus in Luke 13. Jesus did not dehumanize or denigrate Pilate or the Romans, or call for violence against them as was expected. The bottom line: Our answer to violence matters greatly.

I would say it’s because we lost fellowship with brothers & sisters experiencing the goodness of God amid the discomforts of life, marginalization, suffering, persecution. Listening with humility & partnering with them can help us learn how to be clay in the hands of the potter.
Instead of Christians decreeing just war, our region needs Christians engaging in just peacemaking and praying and acting for an end to the cycles of violence and revenge.
