A final story, from a World Cup full of them.
I accidentally kicked the man on the left (Majed) as I sat down at England v France (whoops).
Apologies were offered and accepted: an hour later, we were deep in conversation.
'Ask me anything you like about Qatar!' he said. (1/4)
An additional thought: we don't have these gender related questions in, say, athletics punditry. I've never seen anyone suggest Paula Radcliffe, for example, isn't qualified to analyse the demands / tactics of a men's marathon because she's only competed in women's marathons...
The sexism that spews out on social media whenever a female pundit appears on TV is a disgrace. Tonight on

, I couldn't be more proud of you - it has been such a joy and privilege to experience this wonderful tournament together 😍 🏴 ⚽ 😍
And that's how three of us ended up being treated to a traditional Qatari dinner at one of Majed's favourite restaurants.
Amazing food: generous hospitality: more sharing of perspectives, and a LOT of laughter.
And all because I kicked someone 🤦🏼♀️
Thanks, Majed 😊 (4/4)
Wow. Very humbled, and so very proud to work alongside such a brilliant group of people, on and off air.
There are so many outstanding commentators in our industry, and I love learning from every one of them. ❤️
Feel free to disagree with us journos - football, after all, is a game of opinions. But, a plea...
1) We are just people, like you.
2) There's a difference between healthy debate and abuse, and the latter is never OK.
And for what it's worth, I absolutely love working with Caz.

Just picked up dinner from our excellent local Indian restaurant (my housemate and I have decided that, until this is over, Saturday nights are 'takeout from local restaurant' nights!) The owner told me he's planning to take 20 meals up to the local hospital tonight ♥

I fell in love with football in the mid 90s, and one of the players I grew up adoring was Gianluca Vialli. Brilliant talent, huge endeavour, and that wonderful smile. And, judging by those who knew him, as lovely off the pitch as he was talented on it. 🙏❤️🙏

Man, what a year. Hard to see the light, sometimes - but grateful for persistent love, joy and hope - and, perhaps especially now, for the Light that still shines in the darkness.
Merry Christmas, all - I hope that wherever you are, in the midst of 'It All', you feel loved.❤️
Grateful for the chance to go to church today - something I normally take for granted! ❤️

Twenty-five years ago, as a bleary eyed kid woken up by shouts from the living room, I watched my first 30 seconds of football.
Gareth Southgate missed a penalty - and, to my surprise, I felt genuinely upset.
That's all it took.
It's been emotional, England. Bring it home. ⚽
So I did.
We shared perspectives on off-field issues: workers rights, Qatari reforms, Western media coverage.
It was an off the record conversation, which allowed us both to speak freely, but I can tell you one thing we disagreed on: whether Harry Kane... (2/4)

Can't adequately describe the admiration I have for Steve. Asking prescient questions in a second language in a surreal, pressurised environment to a dangerous and very powerful man... this is courage. This is journalism.
In Minsk I ask Alexander Lukashenko:
• would he allow Wagner to attack Ukraine from Belarus?
• would he have a say in launching Russian tactical nuclear weapons?
• about human rights in Belarus.

Credit to Miguel for continuing to follow this story. It's easy, once the football has finished and the cameras have departed, and the eyes of the world are elsewhere, to forget about the human stories that still continue to unfold as a consequence of the World Cup.

I’ll never take going to a World Cup for granted. It’s a privilege: a dream come true. But it’s also true that, for many people, those aren’t the words they’d use to describe this particular World Cup. (1/6)
