we just reached 50 subs 🥲 i realize that's what some mags get in a day but holy shit i feel like i've won the lottery, 50 people are trusting me with their work
we do not ask for cover letters, and we do not read your author bio until after we read your work. what we care about is the writing you submit to our mag.
bringing this back for our second submission cycle: here is the person behind the magazine.
feel free to ask me anything, either via reply or dm (always open). transparency is key and your questions are welcome 🩵
WE HIT 50 SUBS!
last submission period it took OVER A MONTH to get to 50 and you crazy bastards hit it in ELEVEN DAYS. holy shit I LOVE YOU AND YOUR WRITING 🥰🥰🥰🥰
it is my dream to publish print issues and mail physical copies to everyone with a packet of tea and a sticker… brb buying a lotto ticket to see if i can make this dream possible
big statistics nerd here! left graph is a breakdown of our submissions by genre, and right graph is the number of submissions we received per day over the 11 weeks we were open.
🏙️ received: 184
🌆 accepted: 40 (!)
🌃 acceptance rate: 21%
realized i never did our stats dump for issue 2 subs. we received 139 submissions from 135 individuals! 🥳
here's a breakdown of our acceptance rate, sub genre, subs per day, and gender demographics
i’ve loved reading every submission that i’ve gotten so far.
i just want to make it clear that it’s _me_ reading the submissions. i like to use the editorial “we,” but it’s really just me, Erica_Leslie, probably drinking a grapefruit seltzer while i enjoy your work.
🏙️🌆🌃
i created underscore_magazine because the city is my muse, and i never saw that represented in the literary world. i saw so many odes to pastoral views and not enough odes to subway scenes.
so i decided to create a space for writers who are inspired by cities.
eic life update: i have covid
i will be getting to your work when i am well enough to give it the attention it deserves. please don’t stop sending things, just know i’ll be slower in responding
broke: not accepting any more poetry because we've received so many poetry submissions
woke: accepting more poetry anyway because y'all are incredibly talented writers
