While Sunset Boulevard is trending, here’s Diahann Carroll in the final haunting scene. She’s notably the only Norma who made the choice to let the reality of it all come crashing down in the final moment… absolutely terrifying.
Donna Murphy’s Kiss of the Spiderwoman in a mere 60 seconds is one of the most THRILLING performances in musical theatre history. And we’re left with a huge “what might have been.”
I really hope Broadway using a full 20-30 piece orchestra again becomes a real trend and stays… even if it means less staging and slimmer sets. It’s called MUSICAL theatre for a reason 😩🙏.
Still blows my mind that on the west end they don’t give out Playbills as standard practice. Knowing the cast members’ names and credits and who’s on tonight, understudies, etc. is one of the best and exciting parts of theatre. I get so frustrated not knowing WHO I am seeing!! 😤
10 years ago I attended a Christmas party in Houston and Marin Mazzie was the special guest. She sang Back to Before with just a piano in the living room. I’ll never forget it.
Joe sang “Sunset Boulevard” on the street in London — no like he was literally outside and there was a camera following and filming him piped into the theatre on a huge screen. He walked the streets of London and then finally made it into the theatre for the last note.
theatre kids, if ur stressin bout ur voice rn, remember one day u’ll grow up to be a skilled adult pretender, and after 100 shows or so, you WILL inevitably crack in front of 3,000 people.... but the check will still clear 😉. so like chill out if “Pulled” wasn’t perfect today 👌

step 3: show up and be nothing like your texts
Sunset Boulevard was thrilling, confusing, full of strange directorial choices, but truly I loved it. Not everything worked, but they cut a lot and rewrote some lyrics for the better. It was like A Doll’s House and American Psycho put together. Nicole was so weird and wonderful.
I’m on a Sunset Boulevard kick. Patti LuPone of course originated and she arguably had the biggest physical transition from glamorous to “ugly” by the end. The final scene underwent various versions of headdresses — from 3ft tall to none at all (see last image).
