I cried twice in my high school sports career ... after my last football game and after my last basketball game, because I knew I would never put on a uniform again. The feeling of wishing you had one more game never leaves you.
I’m amazed at how many players don’t ride the bus home after games. When did that become a thing? Bus rides home with your teammates are some of the memories you will have when you look back to your playing days.
Anyone that complains about a six-game High school football season should just stop. It’s better than the alternative of no games. Ask any player right now how happy they are.
Breaking News: After 23 years as Lancaster head football coach, Rob Carpenter has decided to retire. Just finished up with a long interview with him. Story coming shortly.
I was informed today that I have been nominated by the Ohio Associated Press for Best Sports Writer and Best Sports Columnist. I am beyond grateful and humbled and never take what I get to do for granted. I love what I do.

Unreal, people complaining about where the state football finals are going to be played. Are you kidding me? Ask the players if they care where they are playing? They are overjoyed just to be playing. Interesting how quick people forget the season almost didn't happen.
Regardless of why the OHSAA parted ways with
@Jerry_Snodgrass
, at least in my opinion, he was a true advocate for student-athletes and was in a thankless job. He will be missed. Thank you Jerry for all you did for high school sports.
Do you think a player should get voted Player of the Year just because they are a senior? Good is good, and if a junior or sophomore has better numbers and are better, they should get the vote.
Huge congrats to a Lancaster’s Pam Bosser: named Central Ohio Athletic Director of the Year by the Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.
I can't imagine what the Amanda-Clearcreek community, especially family and friends, are going through. It is heartbreaking. My thoughts and prayers are with you through this unthinkable tragedy.
Fairfield Union’s Colin Woodside getting the game ball from Brian Young. Woodside broke Young’s all-time scoring record. He has now scored 1,387 career points. Record stood for 30 years. Congrats Colin!

When a coach takes a player out of game, it amazes to watch them walk off the floor, look up at the clock, head down because they are being taken out. Body language .., come on, get over yourself. It's not all about you!
High school athletes, you will miss the sport you are playing once you graduate, but what you will miss more than anything else are the relationships, the camaraderie, and the locker room. Don't take it for granted. That is stuff you can't get back.
With all the excitement of high school football starting, the powers that be need to make a decision today, one way or another. The damage, mentally, to the athletes is undeniable. They have waited long enough.
Congrats to Lancaster baseball coach
@LHSCoachConn
who picked his 100th career win tonight. Dealt with a lot of coaches throughout my career and he is at the top of the list. First-Class personified. Great coach and even better human being.
How many individuals single-handily lead a school to a state runner-up finish?
@hope_purcell
did today,scoring 31 points by herself with two titles, 3rd & 4th place finishes. Unheard of. Outstanding!

Very grateful to be honored today by the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors: second place for Best Sports Columnist and third place for Best Sports Writer. Love what I do and never take for granted.
Today marks the 30th year for me covering high school sports. Thank you to the athletes and coaches for letting me tell your stories. It has been one heck of a ride and I can’t wait to get started for next school year. I love what I get to do and never take it for granted.
Congrats to Bloom-Carroll football team: Division III State Runner-up. Outstanding season. Made school history.
@bloomcarroll_fb
@BCBulldogsports
Best high school soccer game I have ever covered. Two overtimes and 34 penalty kicks. Bloom-Carroll tops Whitehall in D-II tournament. Unreal!
@BCBulldogsports
I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Jaakko Naayers. What a great young man who will be missed by all who knew him. Please keep the Naayers family in your prayers.
Lost first three games, everyone counted Lancaster out. Gales just won their sixth straight game. Like coach said, How do you like me now? Gales clinch share of OCC championship, 35-21 win over Pick North. This is how winning feels.

I was just informed I am nominated for Best Sports Columnist in Ohio by the Associated Press Media Editors. Very grateful and humbled. I love what I get to do and never take it for granted.
Talk about toughness. Listen to Lancaster’s Elise Johnson talk about what to was like to run most of the 3,200 with only one shoe. She still finished second. Outstanding!
@elisenj12
Big-time congrats to Lancaster baseball coach Corey Conn for being named as the Division I Central District Coach of the Year and Ohio Capital Conference-Ohio Division Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year. Gales are 44-13 last two seasons.

Huge congrats to Lancaster softball coach Allie Kinniard for being named OCC Coach of the Year. In her first year, she’s led the Lady Gales to a 25-1 record, No. 2 state ranking, league & district titles, spot in regional final.

Good night from the Convo! Not my most flattering photo, but that’s a wrap on season 30 of covering HS basketball. Continually grateful I get to do this for a living. Thank you all for following and reading my stuff. I appreciate it more than you know.
The All-Ohio baseball teams were released yesterday, and the fact that Liberty Union pitcher
@Jmills_9
is not All-Ohio. Are you kidding me? Why even have the team if one of the top pitchers in the country is not on the team.
Huge congrats to former Lancaster basketball coach Jack Greathouse. The basketball court at LHS is now named Jack Greathouse Court. Outstanding!
@lancastergales
In life in general, why can't people be happy for someone else's success, regardless if it is a person or a team? I don't get it. People and teams have success for a reason. They work hard, they sacrifice and they put the time in, so why try to tear them down because of it?
Can someone explain to me, how a team goes 14-0 and wins their league, but yet they don't have a player on first team all-league, only one on 2nd team and one on honorable mention. The coaches who vote should be ashamed.
That is a wrap on my 31st year of covering high school sports. What a way to end it with a state championship! I still love what I get to do and never take it for granted. Thank you for those who support me and read my stuff.
I have written a lot of stories in my career, but in transcribing my interviews for a story I'm writing on the passing of Amanda-CC student Sophie Mazgay, is different. Just listening to them describe her gives me goosebumps. Her story will be in Monday's Eagle-Gazette.
Being only only one reporter I can only be one place at a time. But it amazes me when parents complain about coverage yet their coach never reports game results.
Stopped in the office today and this was on my desk. I’m especially proud and humbled to win this award because of the subjects I wrote about. I am grateful for my job and never take it for granted.
Breaking News: Lancaster City Schools today announced the plan to upgrade Fulton Field from grass field to Synthetic Turf. Estimated cost is $875,000 and should be completed by Aug. 1.

Huge congrats to Lancaster track thrower’s coach Jack Cheek. He was honored tonight at the Fulton Relays with a permanently placed stone with his name on it. Many of his former throwers came back for his recognition. Well deserved.
@lancastergales
One thing is for sure, all of these athletes that made it to the state level and not being able to compete will forever be thinking: What If? Winning a state title puts you in elite company, almost legendary status. They will never get that opportunity and it's unfortunate.
Congrats to the Lancaster softball team(25-1). Reese Piston’s walk-off home run the bottom of the 7th inning wins it 1-0 over Gahanna. Lady Gales headed to regional finals for first time in school history. They one step away from reaching the state tourney.
@lanc_softball
From starting the season with zero varsity experience to winning an outright OCC Championship! The culture is real for Lancaster baseball and it all starts with
@LHSCoachConn
. Congrats Golden Gales. Third consecutive OCC title. 2018, 2019, 2020.
@lancastergales
Breaking News:: for the first time in school history the Lancaster softball team is ranked No. 1 in the state in the Ohio High School Softball Coaches Association poll.

My man
@Jmills_9
had a night: 7 innings, 0 hits, 0 BB, kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk - and if you don’t want to count the Ks - he had 21 strikeouts in 2-0 win over Circleville. Outstanding!
@LULions
With the news today with schools not opening back up and spring sports now being canceled, it is a sad day for all athletes. It’s a shame they won’t get to compete after all the hard work they put in. I still plan to preview Our teams because the athletes deserve it.
All they do is Win! Lancaster secures share of Ohio Capital Conference-Ohio Division Championship with 3-2 win over Gahanna. Back-to-Back OCC titles. 19-3 overall, 10-3 in league.

Cannot think of a more deserving coach to win a league championship than
@LHSCoachConn
. Lancaster has been part of the OCC since 1997 and he gives Gales their first baseball league championship. Outstanding! Congrats, Coach.

Not to beat a dead horse, but it was only the first day of spring sports, and already getting calls and emails from parents wondering why their kid's game results weren't in the roundup of results. Simple answer: Your Coach Did Not Report It! Coaches, just turn your stuff in.
Lancaster baseball has nothing to be ashamed of. Finished season with 26-4 record, OCC-Ohio Division title, Central District Division I title back-to-back seasons. 45-14 record last two years and senior class finished with 76 wins last 4 years.
