Many of these "fake" followers are inactive users who signed up, were recommended to follow Elon and Obama, but then stopped using twitter. That's probably half of fake followers. So actual bot accounts are probably around 7.5% of Twitter. 2/3

Apparently the Twitter deal is halted because @elonmusk is checking if fake accounts are more than 5% of Twitter users. On large accounts we usually see 10-20% fake followers, so the answer is YES. It's more than 5%.

After @RubinReport flagged how few retweets the @NYTimes gets (53m followers), we did some digging. The NYTimes definitely has more fake followers than @elonmusk - 14.2m vs 13.6m. But only 72% of NYTimes followers are real vs 84% for Elon. What’s going on? 1/4 👇
