I don't know who's responsible for getting the Boks to go back to their primary schools, but I think it's the single most important action in ensuring the growth and popularity of the sport I've ever seen.
If you really WANT to understand Rassie, here's the clip.
Overwhelmed by emotion because THIS MOMENT, not the final whistle or the award ceremonies, but THIS MOMENT is the one he worked for.
Refusing to lift the trophy because it's not about him.

Just a note to all supporters of the Irish rugby team from a
#springbok
fan...
You guys should be proud.
This tournament was different in so many ways.
Thinking or feeling that "we didn't get past the quarters again" would be a mistake.
1. Never in the history of rugby have the
Lots of 'best team didn't win' nonsense on here.
The
#Springboks
playing without Marx and Am, with a 6 day recovery after the most draining 3 weeks in RWC history, won a game against an excellent AB team WITH A 37 YEAR OLD STAND-IN HOOKER PLAYING 78 MINUTES. Champions find a way!
To my non-rugby friends (if I have any left after this past series), the guy in the air is 6ft 6", they guy lifting him is 6ft 7".
A lineout (this phase) is like NBA athletes doing gymnastics.
For the game they're like NFL players doing crossfit.
It's crazy.
Strangely, I don’t mind losing that one. It took a hell of a performance and two BRILLIANT drop goals to do it. Fair play Ireland.
Well deserved.
Fair reflection of the series.
Pity there isn’t a third test.
#RSAvsIRE
Seeing Twickenham half empty for England's last game before the RWC the day after the Springboks sold it out, must sting a little - or even a lot - Sir Clive?
#Twickenham
#englandrugby
Ireland had all of these in buckets.
My advice: see it for what it was. A cruel tournament, where you lost one game against a team that can beat any other team on any other day.
That doesn't take anything away from Ireland.
They've been incredible.
You can be proud.
For those who missed it, the UFC got an Afrikaans guy to translate what was being said in the DDP corner..
1st round: repeated everything he heard IN AFRIKAANS.
By the 3rd round someone explained the idea to him, but a beautiful “you will have to MOER him” still snuck through
😂
Feeling sad/frustrated by the chaos that is the
#LionsRugby
tour? May I offer a few points of perspective:
1. Twitter is not the real world - everything is okay.
The toxicity here does not reflect the majority of fans, from either side.
Can we just take a moment an recognize how absolutely crazy a 7-1 split in a Rugby World Cup final really is?
It's ridiculous, irresponsible, incomprehensible - and I absolutely LOVE IT!!!!
Foster was asked what they learnt from the loss at Twickenham, his reply made me bet on the French.
"We shouldn't play with 14 men and the ref....."
The correct answer was: "Our discipline fails when we're under pressure and we're failing up front"
Lesson not learnt.
#FRAvNZL
That was one of the greatest Bok victories I’ve witnessed.
Unforced errors, inexperienced players, disruption in the backline, strange calls by the ref, a dangerous All Black team playing quality rugby … and still the
#springboks

@MhlabaNkululeko
I feel your pain.
We have 3 boys 15, 13, and 9.
Recently had to confirm with my wife "when you say I should pick up bread for tomorrow I'm assuming you mean 4 loaves, right?"
The scariest part is that bread is used as the 'filler' between and after meals.
We'll never forget what Manie did for us against France, but Sacha is here now.
In fact, Handre might be out of a job too.
All-round 10, perfect for the Tony Brown attack.
#springboks
I have it on good authority that the 4th episode in Chasing the Sun 2 is just Damian calling for a scrum, but from 28 different angles.
Apparently already nominated for an Oscar too.
Anyone who has the ear of the Loftus DJ, please ask him not to make the same mistake as with the URC final. Hold back on the constant music and let the home crowd do its thing.
This is not just an old man request.
It's what I do for a living. cc
@RassieRugby
Dear South Africans on Twitter.
I know you have an opinion on politics/corruption/ xenophobia, but if I may offer some advice..
Mourn.
Even just for a day, take a breath and mourn the horrible loss of 70 humans.
There will be ample time to have an opinion.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think the
#Springboks
are real underdogs this weekend - and not the 'back against the wall brings the best out of us' type of underdogs, but rather the 'physically and emotionally drained' underdogs.
I'm tired from just watching the past two weekends, but
top teams been so close to each other. This is not a subjective view, you simply need to look at how easily and often the ranking change to see how close these teams were.
2. Add to this fact that it was the most unbalanced pools in the history of the game and you end up with
So Malcolm Marx has a fractured leg. Desperately unlucky for him after just returning from a knee injury. That croc roll ought to be cited, a horrific clean.
Absolutely no one said this after the quarter-finals or even the other semi-final.
In fact, no one said this for the 1st 50 minutes of this game.
The problem isn’t scrums, it’s the fact that England got smashed at the scrum in the last 30 minutes.
A wee observation - the scrum is becoming arguably the most important bit of a
#rugby
game. So much time is being spent getting ready, resetting, deliberately collapsing, looking for a penalty, stopping the clock, “painting pictures” ….is that what we want?
#ENGvRSA

If you're a coach, player or supporter of team that's going to play against the Springboks in the next 25 years, this should give you nightmares.
Suddenly there are 1000s of kids wanting to play like Manie.
A community inspired.
Stronger Together!
I'm a bit rattled after watching Chasing the Sun 2.
I thought the mystery of why Manie didn't look at the ball would be explained today.
It wasn't even mentioned. As if it wasn't the most ridiculous thing in sport, ever.
How am I going to sleep now?
same - and it clearly wasn't.
So how should you think about this Ireland team. What did they achieve and where did they falter?
The achievements:
1. Genius shape
The multiphase attack of Ireland is so complex and innovative that no other team even attempts to execute it. It
requires an incredibly smart group of players to buy in 100% and then train like monsters to get it right.
The Irish shape is something we've never seen in rugby before and it's incredible to watch. The fact that no one even tries to replicate it, is testimant to the quality of
played a massive part in making this tournament great. The traveling support has been record setting, the singing enviable and the passion a joy to behold.
Look, the bottom line is this:
Tournament rugby is unique and cruel.
This tournament was the cruelest of them all.
I want to suggest that all

Also, that it's risky isn't being debated.
Everybody knows it's risky.
The question is, is it the right call?
I say it is.
this Irish team and their coaches.
2. Incredible Physicality
Possibly the best way to stop a multiphase attack structure is to disrupt it through physicality. No phases or slow phases means it breaks down.
In the game against the Boks, Ireland showed that they could withstand

I'm sorry, I know this is controversial, but I'm completely over the Haka.
Feels like one team is forcing others to accommodate their cultural traditions and no one is allowed not to like it. Maybe on special occasions and with the opposition's permission.
be the greatest Springbok team of all time. Possibly the most physical and smartest defensive team in history, in peak condition, with years to plan and with the single goal to disrupt the famous Irish shape. The fact that this Irish team withstood that and found alternatives
Gaging the quality of your team based on tournament rugby is dangerous.
Gaging the quality of your team based on THIS tournament would be just be wrong.
As supporters we can hope a bit of luck, but we can be proud of innovation, preparation grit, skill, depth and consistency and
such and attempt. The stood up to the physicality of Springbok team who's defensive structure should be the ultimate antidote to a multi-phase attack - and we did not hold back. We gave it our best and the Irish team stood up against it. Keep in mind that this may turn out to

week is also there to remind us how horrible our politicians really are. The contrasts between these people and the Springboks are just so glaring. Arrogant, lazy, undisciplined, self-involved cheats with low battle stats and weak spines... hope killers.
Under-appreciated generational talent.
Best small wing of all time. (Yes, I said it!)
Better than Robinson, better than Williams, better than Paulse and even better than the great Gio Aplon.
KLA making a great case to be the next in line, but long live King Cheslin.
You wouldn't be able to stop Cheslin Kolbe in a phone box!
Easily one of the most dangerous sidsteppers in rugby.
I've clipped up 50 of his best sidesteps on the rugby pitch, which you can watch here:

@Oom_Rugby
just read through your thread on stadium attendance.
The one thing that most rugby people struggle to understand is that the product has almost nothing to do with rugby.
So, they look to prices and rules and speed of play as the culprits.
What I hate most about the Boks losing is the mind numbing stupid reactions to it on this platform.
As a non-drinker I often have to remind myself “hulle is seker maar nog dronk”, just to find empathy for the stupid.
I know it’s not true, but what else can one do
Is is just me or is Aimee Barrett-Theron a brilliant referee. Anyone pick up ANY errors in that first half, because I didn't?
None in law interpretation, none in communication.

In conclusion: things seem bad & toxic on Twitter and in the media, but the journalists live on Twitter and the toxicity spills over into their work.
The reality is that these are two GREAT teams giving everything and it's an awesome contest.
WR are just a bunch of amateurs.
Strong South Easterly winds brought in the first Albatross of the season. This is a Shy Albatross, ironically the most common in Cape waters, but you only see them from land during winter storms. Amazing to think it was born on an island off Australia.
@ClixWell
I'm shocked by the disrespect he's receiving in the comments. Black people saying he's a good leader but not a good player. Crazy stuff!
He's been the best 6 in SA for a long time with no one coming close!
What's the agenda here?
Congratulations to Wales on their first win in South Africa.
Tough pill to swallow, but knowing the joy it will bring to
@SquidgeRugby
@simonrug
and
@thepaulwilliams
does make it a little bit easier.
I hate losing to England, but this one doesn't hurt as much:
- We were knackered.
- Missing key players.
- The game plan works
- Leadership = great
- Depth = incredible.
Bonus: They'll continue to think players like Sinckler are world class and continue to pick them 😉
#ENGvRSA
Johan Goosen is an enigma to me.
One of the most talented school boy rugby players I've ever seen.
Seems as if he hasn't learnt anything about rugby since then. Too lateral, too deep, long passes nullifying overlaps. Fly-half basics just absent.
#ssrugby
5. The games are not boring - don't stress.
The two games were similar.
Lions fans didn't complain about the first one because they won. The NZ coach is moaning about it because he needs to face the Springboks soon.
The rugby is attritional, riveting and full of drama.
I think about this moment too often.
The ‘why’ is as illusive to me as the ‘how’.
It makes no sense on any level, but it’s just so beautiful.
Probably best to just enjoy it for what it is… art.
I know we won, but how good was that French performance?
Dominating the Boks in the contact. Who does that?
The top spinning little kicks over the rush defense. Brilliant!
If we lost that I'd have said "fair enough".
Well done France!
#FRAvsRSA
6. The Boks are not 'killing rugby' - don't worry.
After a 2 year absence the Boks are very conservative and playing 'tournament rugby'. Expect to see more flair as they get into this season. The 2nd test saw them run it much more than the 1st already.
All is well.
2. Rassie's fight is not with Gats - it's fine.
His fight is with World Rugby, the fact that they were slow in providing feedback and then inconsistent in the feedback provided.
So 'Gats started it' is a dumb retort from SA fans.
World Rugby started it.
4. World Rugby are the bad guys here.
This whole thing kicked off when WR didn't have a backup plan and appointed a South African TMO.
Gatland was right to moan about that.
South Africans didn't like it either.
It's an incompetent move and put the whole tour at risk.
7. SA fans respect the Lions players - relax.
We don't think AWJ is a hobbit, that's just one desperate journalist kicking out clickbait.
Curry and Itoje are immense!
The Lions pack dominated the Boks in the 2nd half of the 1st test. That's something! They're good!
Took the Canon R5 for a spin in the Kruger this weekend.
Not used to 20 frames a second, but it does come in handy at times.

In fact Camps Bay High's field has to be in the top 10 most scenic rugby grounds in the world.

has been discovering Tim's videos. His honesty, humility and respect for the game has been reflected in the comments section. So here, for the 1st time in history, I will recommend you read a comment section:
I love how the 7-1 thing becomes such a headline that people miss the nuance.
The real story is that the
#Boks
have THREE fetchers on the bench. This is not about set piece dominance, but about slowing rucks & scrambling on defence. It's a brilliantly calculated risk.

Cecil Africa:
-picks ball up on his feet✅
-makes offload while off balance and unsighted ✅
-gets up to run the perfect supportline ✅✅✅
He may have been born a genius, but that support line is 100% commitment and training, which is why he's a legend too.
PS: I wrote this while on a zoom call, it's not meant to be a nuanced summary of the tour - just a bit of perspective.
If you're hitting me with 'Berry was attacked', 'Gats started it', or 'All South Africans/Lions fans are toxic' - you're part of the problem.
This right here is why we love this team of individuals.
Jacques is very much under appreciated by many and the fact that he's fine with it says even more about the man. Well done to
@SiyaKolisi
(once again) for taking this opportunity and for articulating it so well.
Siya Kolisi has paid an incredible tribute to Jacques Nienaber, who has one more game - the Rugby World Cup final - in charge of the Springboks before his switch to Irish side Leinster.

I can go on, but the bottomline should be clear.
Sport = Stories.
That's it.
Really, it is.
The rest is only important as to how they can support the stories told by sport.
The good news: nothing can tell better stories.
Still one of my favourite moments on TV, ever.
A bit of context about the players and the program helps, but even without it, it’s just gold.

3. Rassie's fight is not with Nic Berry - don't worry.
Nic is unfortunate collateral damage in the fight with WR.
If Rassie's issue was with Nic, he would have released that video on the Monday. Look at it again, he reacts to the feedback.
