Since summer last year we’ve been dealing with my wife’s cancer. We’re almost done with chemo, but man have these months been hard. If you’ve been umming or ahhing about buying one of these pens, now would be a great time for me.
Not messing about when I say that the past few months have been *really* challenging. It’d help a bunch if you shared or purchased one of these sweet pens I make.
Learned that one of my nieces (9 years old) thought that the word ‘shucks’ was a compound of the words ‘shit’ and ‘fucks’ and this is now the only acceptable use of the word. Please update your dictionaries.
I was in hospital with a suspected brain haemorrhage and was emailed by a charity saying they were trying to use a picture from my website for their poster but the resolution was too low. I explained no thanks, hospital, brain haemorrhage etc… 1/2
…And they kept pushing, insisting I send the full resolution version. I ignored them because I had other things to worry about. They eventually emailed to say they’d fixed it by printing out the low res image and scanning it back in high res. Problem solved!
Seeing Wally Wood’s 22 panels that always work being spoken about again. I used a delicately altered version in powerpoints and talks FOR YEARS and nobody ever noticed. I’m coming clean now, ‘prominent nostril’ was not on the original.
Had a dream last night I was in a band called Johnny Clash and we did covers of Clash songs in the style of Johnny Cash and I was so disappointed to wake up and find that wasn’t a real thing. Devastated.
It’s
#draweurovision
day! I’m going to draw all the
#Eurovision
acts while they perform and post a thread here. Enjoy! (This isn’t a performer, this is me testing my setup!)
Tell me about cool things that make you feel good. For example; wearing new socks and new shoes at the same time or seeing ALL THE STARS on a very clear night. That kind of satisfying stuff.
I dreamed the other night that I was being pursued by a Moss Hound, a huge wolf-like forest creature made of lichen and moss without ears or eyes and let me tell you I kicked the covers off the bed. Properly terrifying. I must write a comic about the Moss Hound.
My wife had her final chemo just over a week ago. It’s been real rough. It looks like things are looking up though, for which we’re grateful. It’s been wonderful to feel the thousand hands of the internet lift us up over here. Thank you.

The Bones, my story about finding human remains when I was seventeen has been taking some unexpected turns. You can read it so far here; more as it happens.
Hey. If you email me about being on my podcast, try and;
a) get my name right and
b) I was going to go on but that’s a pretty low bar to try and leap over.
I drew a really very good picture for my friend
@badmachinery
who told me he thought it was the very best picture he had ever seen. Sending it to him today so he can display it in the living room.
I started teaching comics at university in 2008, and left in 2019 to go freelance, pretty frustrated with the state of arts education in the Uk. I still love teaching and working with other people though, so I’ve started a Creative Mentorship scheme -
These little stickers came with a sleep mask I got at an airport BUT -now hear me out- I *think* I might be able to find a use for them in my quest to transform into a house cat.
Sometimes, when I hit a bit of a wall with my drawing I refer back to this page of prompts I wrote as a reminder a few years ago in the back of my sketchbook. Most of it is very specific to me and the way I work but you might find a useful peanut in there somewhere.
My daughter and I decided that making a Roman Shield for school out of *cardboard* was bullshit so we went waaay overboard and made something a little sturdier.

I’ve got a half kilometre of custom cut brass components being delivered in a few weeks. Stacked end to end, that’s taller than the Empire State Building. Please buy a pen so I don’t drown in brass.
Tonight I’m going to be quick drawing along to
#Eurovision
! Follow the

hashtag to see what everyone else draws and perhaps join in? It’s a TREAT.
I shipped out around a hundred pens in the last few days, can’t wait to see what people make with them. Now I’m waiting on a big delivery of parts to make more.
Just finished two weeks teaching comics at the Animation Workshop in Viborg, Denmark and had a great time. On my way home now in time for my 40th birthday tomorrow!
Have you ever mispronounced a word in front of someone just really really badly? I once had a student angrily tell me that I and the assignment I’d written were both stupid because I’d used the nonsense word
“Skwaaarrr”
I’d written ‘square’.
