Today we turn three! I just wanted to say a huge, huge thank you to everyone who’s supported us, the vendors, performers, team members both past and present who have helped create such a special space with me.
To celebrate the end of Trans Joy Week, we wanted to share something that not everyone might be aware of. A few weeks ago a number of Gender Critical activists came to Cardiff and we wanted to show that Cardiff is an affirming, proud and inclusive city
*TW transphobia*
We’re disheartened to share that this was posted on our wall tonight whilst such a joyful comedy event was happening. We wouldn’t normally post something like this on social media but we feel it’s important to share such brazenly hateful behaviour.
Please join us this Thursday to remember Brianna Ghey, who was so tragically lost last week, and come together as a community. We will be holding a candle lit vigil at The Tree of Life, adjacent to Brodies Coffee Hut, outside The National Museum at 19:00.
We’re always excited to come in on Christmas Day and see everyone but we’re beyond gutted to see someone has attempted to break our window in this afternoon. We’re not sure why (although we have a good guess) but
This is your annual reminder, before Pride Month kicks off and every chain plasters themselves in rainbows to support your local LGBTQ+ orgs, businesses and acts. We’re here all year round whether it’s pride or not! 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
We are calling on you, the community, for your help. Please sign and share.
Rydym yn galw arnoch, y gymuned, i helpu ni. Plîs arwyddwch.

where we welcome and stand with our trans siblings. We purchased Trans Pride Flags and distributed them across the city, inviting private businesses and even outside peoples homes in the centre hanging them up for the weekend.
This statement is supported by a wide range of Cardiff LGBTQ+ organisations, individuals and allies. To show your solidarity with ALL our community, please head to to sign on to it.
Our street cafe is open! Every day 11-6 except Sundays 11-4. We have enough parasols to shelter everyone when the weather turns! Serving iced coffees, lemonade iced teas and fierce looks. There’s alcohol on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Our CCTV confirms the card was up for less than a minute and the person doing it. Hate speech shouldn’t be tolerated anywhere but especially in a safe space like The Queer Emporium.
Thank you to everyone who came out tonight and everyone who spoke. Thank you to
@ImpactLGBTQ
for organising,
@transaidcymru
for being there &
@TransTechTent
for powerful words. Support your community, support trans orgs, support trans folks and protect trans youth.
We’re so proud Cardiff is number 8 on this list and 2nd in the UK. The community here in all its facets is so diverse, strong, resilient & energetic. We want to try and shout out as many orgs as we can that make Cardiff so great:
@transaidcymru
@TransTechTent
@CardiffLGBTQLaw
Ahead of our opening tomorrow we wanted to share this pic of me with some out the vendors from the press day.
#QueerSquad
Our coffee machine might not be quite working but we’re looking pretty good and so excited to open our doors in the morning!
This Wednesday we will be standing with the community against Suella Braverman’s put of touch comments about LGBTQ+ refugees seeking safety. We stand with all folks in our community and want to reaffirm everyone’s welcome, particularly those escaping persecution.
Please note we've had to temporarily close due to someone being abusive to staff and customers- we're hoping to be back open by 5.15! Everyone is safe, we’re hoping the individual will leave the area so we can get back to serving you!
Thank you to EVERYONE who came out and supported us today! It was AMAZING!
We’re open until 8pm tonight when we then have
@WBC_Cardiff
performing between 8pm-10pm in Category is [Pride]! Then tomorrow the ultimate pride wedding!
A lot of press have asked me why doing
@thequeeremporiu
is important, having the slur f*ggot shouted at us through the door as we set up just shows why pride is important, safe spaces are important and why we’ll be here all month whether you like it or not. (Mother in law in pic)
Got homophobically heckled while preparing
@thequeeremporiu
today, so if you’re an ally and want to do something to help, we have some windows that really need cleaning tomorrow.
Unit 2-4, Royal Arcade, St. Mary’s Street.
In case you missed our big announcement, here it is! We’re really humbled by the outpouring of support from the community and a huge thank you to
@morgan_quarter
for hosting us! As said over on Instagram, ‘forever’ seems a tag melodramatic but we’re aiming high.
Our winter cafe is open! Complete with heating, festival lights and wooden walls it’s the perfect cosy but indoor/outdoor space in the centre. We’re now open 7 days per week and from next week (15/11/21) until 8pm!
We now have the quote for replacing our window- it’s in the region of £450. Unfortunately, with the excess on our insurance it doesn’t make sense to claim. If you would like to contribute towards the cost you can donate to our running costs here:
THANK YOU CARDIFF FOR TURNING OUT TODAY 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈
We’re SO EXCITED to announce that we’ve been extended
@morgan_quarter
until the end of August! Roll on the queerest summer Cardiff has seen!

For those who weren’t aware, 15 members of

called for the University to be withdrawn the Stonewall Diversity Champions Scheme. 1/6
No big deal, but we just held the BIGGEST trans protest in WELSH HISTORY!!
THANK YOU to our stewards, to
@NotAPhaseOrg
for funding it, and to each and every one of you who came along to march!!
Please note we've had to temporarily close due to someone being abusive to staff and customers- we're hoping to be back open by 5.15! Everyone is safe, we’re hoping the individual will leave the area so we can get back to serving you!
We want to thank everyone for the huge outpouring of support regarding our window. Unfortunately, at the time we’re writing this post, the person who did it has not been caught.
Do you ever think about corporations rainbow washing and if they gave just 1% of their turnover to LGBTQ+ causes they would have a far greater impact on communities
We’ve been flying the flag all week but today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. We are marking those lost with a candle lit vigil at 7pm, followed by a panel coordinated by
@transaidcymru
and finally
@WBC_Cardiff
are having a Kiki in trans flag colours to mark today.
What we believe in:

Our cafe renovations are underway! Get ready for a refreshed street cafe, complete with a ‘talking table’ for folks who want to have chats with other people visiting the cafe!

It’s with a very heavy heart we have made the difficult decision to postpone our upcoming events: ‘HoHoHo’ Comedy Night, that was due to take place this Saturday, 11th December and our first Queer Gala, that was scheduled for the 18th December.
It is heartening to watch this grow and we would encourage all our followers associated with
@cardiffuni

‘s new book BUT this is one of a kind, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, shit on
We had our first Queer Dog Walking group today! Thank you to all those who came and be there next week for a free Pup-noffee Pie! The Queer Dog Walk is every Sunday at 15:00!
We want to be clear that in our space, there is no debate, you are valid and we try to keep it as safe as possible. It’s really sad to see these articles at the start of Pride Month from a ‘progressive’ newspaper.
@guardian
have a word with yourselves.
#TransRightsAreHumanRights
We’ve seen a lot of serious posts about
#IDAHOBIT
today (and rightly so). We’ve been wracking our brains over what to post all day but Yan just wanted to share how gay he is with you all.
Happy
#nationalcomingoutday
! We’re flying the flags everyday of the year and ready to welcome you whatever stage of your journey you’re on. Lots of you might be worried about coming in and buying something from a shop like ours. 1/3
We would encourage
@cardiffuni
to increase their commitment to the trans community and increase inclusivity training rather than pander to their demands. 4/6
We are so so so excited to share some amazing new with you today! We have been asked to contribute to the National Archives at St Fagans, a series of images along with posters and badges have been submitted.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who has taken part in this incredible weekend. These are our photos from Comedy in the Arcade and the pride parade the following morning - more to follow later. Please excuse the bad singing in the final video!
We’re delighted to mark the start of
#lgbthistorymonth
by launching our Community Program! This is a new part of our events program that is more intimate and lower cost (mostly free and always under £5). Look out for what we have coming up over the next few weeks!

Are you excited about our street cafe? We’re excited about our street cafe! We need benches and tables like the ones pictured- can anyone help before we spend an eye watering amount on them? We also need barriers if anyone has some knocking around!
Since it is Pride Month, we were thinking it would be lovely if some big brands wanted to support us? We need a tablet (
@Apple
?) for our till, we need street furniture for our upcoming street cafe (
@IKEAUKSupport
want to help out?) and some barriers (
@BandQ
?). Tag more below!
“There's no such things as 'gender ideology', only some human beings trying to live mostly ordinary lives despite a mountain of unreasonable hatred”
@alisapower
👏👏👏
Ms Lent told me that 'gender ideology' is 'homophobic' and 'anti-lesbian' and that people experiencing gender dysphoria 'need counselling'

This Friday is our Grand Opening (grand = finished signage and hopefully coffee). The amazing
@VictoriaScone
will be making an appearance and we’ll have
@CardiffLions

Tomorrow (Sunday) we will be closing at 4pm to ensure all the team are able to attend the vigil.
We will also be closed this Monday due to staff training. We will reopen at 11 on Tuesday!
