Dear Society
If you get an opportunity to uplift a deaf / person with a disability, please never hesitate to do so
Unemployed Deaf /PWDs are clouded with low self esteem. Most are even disrespected by their own communities
SAVE A DEAF/PWD FROM DEPRESSION

BREAKING NEWS!
This might shock a few people but Deaf and Hard of Hearing are capable of and worthy of love!
Some societies perceive people with hearing loss as being subhuman, depriving us of the right to enjoy life to its fullest
Do not be that person

Good morning!
Inclusion goes beyond acceptance, it means actually incoporating People With Disabilities in all aspects of life and most importantly, equal treatment.
Do you support inclusion?

To me, the hardest part about being deaf is that, no matter how educated I am, no matter how competent I am I will always be looked down upon when it comes down to things that actually matter, such as a job and this shakes my confidence
Will it ever get better?
#BetterTogether
Last Friday, I graduated from the Peer Academy Class of 2023!
It was an honor to be a part of the academy where I learned a lot about advocacy, SRHR to mention but a few
Thank you
@reachahand

Good morning!
The UN Fact Sheet shows that 80 - 90% of Persons with Disabilities in developing countries are unemployed
In Uganda, the sad reality is many have resorted to begging, suicide, or odd jobs despite having an education
Doesn’t this bother you?

The hardest part about being deaf is seeing opportunities pass by you, not because you are incompetent, but only because you are deaf. And some even assume that because you are deaf, you should also be pretty dumb.

Imagine having to pay someone every time you need to communicate something (Interpreters)
Service providers need to provide interpreters, learn sign-language and make services more accessible
Thank you

I wish people stopped using words like kiggala, mukasiru, kiffammattu, kizibamattu etc to refer to deaf people.
What more offensive terms can you add ?

When you have sent over 70 internship and job applications, mentioning your deafness, got no response or a few rejection emails and attended interviews only to be turned down due to your deafness
Novida reminds me of a prophet I met in 2014 who took ten of these and several chicken thighs (alone, & I was hungry as hell) before praying 4 me for an hour to receive healing
He said my hearing loss was due to …$& that I would die by 2015
Today, 2024 I drink to him

Sometimes I feel discriminated against, but it doesn’t make me angry. It merely astonishes me. How can any one deny themselves the pleasure of my company ? It’s beyond me.

Contrary to belief, having a deaf partner does not mean your children will have a hearing impairment.
I have seen so many deaf couples with hearing and healthy children.
Hearing impairment is not genetic, or hereditary.

Parents, schools are soon reopening and this is why enrolling your deaf or hard of hearing child is very important!
Having gone to ‘hearing schools’ myself despite being deaf, the isolation, depression, bullying and discrimination was too much!
Save your deaf child from such!
Social exclusion of people with hearing loss is VERY common and surprisingly, no one is talking about it.
In entertainment, education, politics … we are often left out largely due to misconceptions on deafness.
We can start by bridging communication gaps
#BetterTogether
Thank you

There are so many Deaf and Hard of Hearing People with great literacy skills.
Asking if we can read and write even at university level can come off as offensive.
We can do better
