I do not understand the nostalgia boners for Blockbuster... It would be like celebrating the heritage of Wal-Mart a decade after Amazon puts it out of business. Video stores? Sure. But don’t forget how Blockbuster knee capped many local indie stores with better selections.
@juicyarista
FWIW, this is what an actual $285 tasting menu looks like (and there’s like fourteen courses of these delicious small plates). This is N/Naka.
Burton’s BATMAN literally marks the birth of the modern day media conglomerate (only possible with the Time Warner merger) and superhero synergy (showcased the importance of licensing and ancillary markets). Every studio followed suit after. I spend a week on it each semester.
The $750 tax bill isn’t the main story here - it’s the millions of dollars of debt a sitting President owes creditors and the conflicts of interest he’s already engaged in to pay them back.
@NathanFrisby7
@StephenKing
It reveals that I think paying $8 for an application where you are the product is the silliest shit I’ve ever seen. 😉
And sure you need it - it’s your emotional support blue check, your participation trophy if you will.
@JohnFetterman
Sir, you are my favorite supporting character in this entire Election 2020 debacle. Respect to your troll game, your Twitter feed, your love of democracy, and your bad ass industrialist house. Happy Thanksgiving! Stay safe and healthy.
Leave it to WBD - kneecap HBO and now TCM because they don’t know what they have.
Just sad. Thoughts are with my friends who work there and have worked there in the past.
@theveronicac
But I also can’t imagine what kind of shit she had to deal with as a child actress who ended up becoming a sex symbol for a bunch of nerds. So maybe it’s a protective mechanism?
Weird that the TCM community which has largely complimented contextual introductions by folks like Robert Osbourne for like thirty years now is suddenly losing their shit now that the contextual information includes discussions about race, gender, and sexuality.

It’s also for white Americans to try to address systemic injustices that vastly disadvantage other races and ethnicities in order to get to that dream instead of quoting MLK at folks to silence them.
@gorycoryhorror
Maybe she was having a bad day - but it was a SDCC table interview for THOR. She sat next to me, turned her chair, and didn’t acknowledge our side of the table at all. It was wild. (I had never met or said anything to her - maybe another journalist was a dick before?)
Season 2 of GLOW is top notch. The Welfare Queen episode hits all the feels, the 8th episode does a great job of sending up pop culture of the 80s (its literally just an episode of the show within the show - complete with commercials and PSAs). Good shit.
My favorite news item from the strike today? Someone found out Zaslav has a Venmo.
So a bunch of writers, talent, and even the journalist who wrote the GQ thing sent him money requests. Grade A trolling.

So your family worked hard and succeeded - I guess that doesn’t mean you have an ethical obligation to make America a better place for everybody.
The good old “I got mine” Boomer mentally. 🤡
Fun Fact: FFC asked the DGA to show a clip from JACK when they did a tribute to his career because - according to the man himself - it was one of the most important films in his filmography because it got him out of the red financially and paid off his house and winery.

@RottenTomatoes
And yet the audience Cinemascore (the lowest of the franchise with the exception of the CLONE WARS animated film) would seem to suggest that the critics aren’t out of touch.

After fourteen courses? You’re pretty full. It’s kinda like a fireworks show - different flavors, textures. You go from a miso soup to a sushi platter to some wagyu beef. Each taste nearly life alteringly memorable despite the size. It takes like three hours too.
@theveronicac
I was kinda shook by it. I had always wanted to chat with her. Mentioned it to a couple other friends - one whose sister went to college with her - and heard the same multiple times.
@ClaraJeffery
Suppose you think that school closures were a disastrous, invasion-of-Iraq magnitude (or perhaps greater) policy decision. Shouldn't that merit some further reflection?

I looked like the goddamned Elephant Man in the mid-90s. One of my eyes got swollen shut from a cystic acne and they had to put me on Accutane, which was basically banned for dangerous side effects.

This is actually brought up in Sam Wasson’s new Coppola book.
Long story short? Lucas is very fiscally conservative because of his upbringing and looks at everything as an investment and Coppola is too proud to ask.
R. Downey Jr: wears blackface for Universal w/o regret bc it “sparked a necessary convo.” Univer.: yay Robert!👏🏻
Me: Never worn blackface but had one of those “necessary convos” re how standard seems to have changed over time.NBC-Univer: F.U.! Cancelled!
Story shared with permission... One of my top notch former students got into UT’s Film/TV program and was having a hard time finishing due to financial reasons (Rein’s primary duty is caregiver to their grandma). The other day,

I can’t believe that dude doesn’t realize that most departments also don’t want a braggart blowhard as a colleague either. Like you’re not helping your case - at all.
Folks keep wanting to try to dunk on a misread of the Tweet - The local indies had better selections of rentals (at least in my market), not that Blockbuster kneecapped the locals by having better selections. Thought this became abundantly clear in the follow up convos.
