It's like christmas for cool Houdini stuff at the moment. A free OpenCL wrinkle deformer HDA, not blackboxed. Definitely put some money in Mengya's Gumroad tip jar though, this is a huge amount of work to give away for free!

This needs another plug. @_Nick_Taylor created a great guide for the (too?) many ways you can deform geometry with other geometry. I always forget the edge cases, this article and hip covers it all.

I've always used 'vdb from polygon' cos it sounded cool, and always fought it to get nice shapes. Turns out I've been wrong this whole time, and should've been using the cloud sop. Much nicer controls, works great with cloud noise, I'm an idiot.

Amazing how every time you dare think 'I know houdini', you learn a new trick. I've always used a wrangle to swap P for rest, turns out the rest sop can do it. Cheers to Konstantin Magnus for this trick in one of great hips!

Imitation is the best form of flattery! Saw a XP particles intersect / avoidance vid, replicated it in @sidefx #Houdini . Too much code, but pleased to clear up some pops concepts. This'll become a longform article on the wiki. Shared with Patreon supporters already of course. :)

Great tip from @legomyrstan ; use a measure sop to get a vector that represents the banking direction of a curve (think the direction a motorcycle rider would lean, and how much). Will copy this to the wiki shortly. Thanks Pawel!

The site has an updated skin, better floating nav on the top and right. I've noticed a few glitches (clicking the nav will sometimes be off-by-one), but overall I think this is better than before. If you see any problems lemme know.

A must watch masterclass on vellum. It's 3 hours so you might want to break it over several days (and install a html5 video speed control), but an incredible amount of great info in there!

Handy tip from @ambrosiussen_p ; if attrib transfer annoys you because it does a surface based effect at short distances, use a 'distance from geometry' sop to get the mask you want.

The amazing @adamswaab proved a substance style triplanar baker was possible in cops, I reimplemented it in a vex snippet, and added some occlusion/curvature masks for detail. Why can't I quit you cops...

Another #houdini PSA: The bend sop is ALWAYS incorrectly oriented. Watched a tutorial by @Simon_Houdini , picked up this game changer: tap B while in the tool. It cycles through the various XYZ permutations, so you can bend Tommy as nature intended.

Best way to learn chops in Houdini? Learn chops in Touch Designer. Install it, "Help -> Operator Snippets", chops menu. Realtime thumbnails too, don't get that in Houdini! Most entries have many examples, use the little 'next' button in the text field. #sidefx #touchdesigner

Here's a @sidefxlabs power tip: The builds that ship in the installer are trimmed down. Get the labs zip from github, there's a hip folder full of examples. (green 'code' button, zip). Get the local path with $SIDEFXLABS, paste hips in there, profit.

Tip via @ambrosiussen_p . Cameras can use curves as camera guides. Edit Parameter Interface. Render Properties, Viewport Display, View Mask, add. Viewport display options, guides, enable 'Camera View Mask'. On the camera, go to View Mask, point it at a sop with curves, done.
