It's time for me to change costumes, so I have changed my twitter handle.
I really appreciate all my friends here, and hope you will continue following my adventures.
I am also very pleased to announce the release of all the Mr Benn music. Enjoy!!
This is the feel good story we need!
100 year old WW2 veteran marries his 96 year old girlfriend in a church near the D-Day beaches.
I love this. Congrats to both.
Last year David sent me this. Probably the last time he drew Mr Benn.
A few days before he died, his son drove him down the coast road in Nice, past the great hotels & beaches. It was indeed Mr Benn's last adventure...
I very much like my little corner of twitter. We all know that we live in a very divided world.
What I try to do is bring a bit of peace, nostalgia and a smile as an alternative to all the nastiness.
I'll be here. I hope you will be too.
It's been a really difficult day.
I want to thank you for all of your messages. Although David didn't like to make a fuss, I know he would be extremely moved by all the love he has been shown.
Your messages have brightened my day, and I am very grateful for that.
Bernard Cribbins...
A titan of childrens tv.
Such a fabulous voice.
The Wombles, Jackanory...
Also a fine actor. Two Way Stretch, The Railway Children...
Thank you for everything Sir. RIP.
I have a huge favour to ask.
There is a big meeting coming up on 27th September about Mr Benn.
I have to show the value of this twitter account, so I would like to see how much we can grow it in the next week.
If you enjoy this account, please tell everybody!
Thank you...
Happy Birthday to me...
Happy Birthday to me...
Happy Birthday to me...
Happy Birthday to me...
Shown on tv for the first time on 25th February 1971...
A few months before he died, David McKee sent me this.
Probably the last time he drew Mr Benn.
I love it. Although sad, there is a defiance to keep having adventures in the sunshine.
With all the bad things going on in the world, I hope my little bit of twitter brings a bit of light relief.
I try to bring something different.
I try to bring some smiles, a bit of nostalgia, and hopefully a sense of humour!
A few weeks ago I asked for your help as there was an important meeting about my future and Mr Benn.
This was postponed, and is happening tomorrow...
Running this account is pure joy for me.
To connect with you is Fabulous.
Please show your support.
Thank you very much.
Hello!!
I am well aware that because I don't post anything controversial, my tweets don't get seen like they used to.
If you see this tweet, please RT it.
I'm still here!!
Thank you very much.
I'm going to give a set of these beautiful Mr Benn badges away.
Everybody that RT's this tweet will go into the bowler hat and a winner will be selected a week from today.
Today I am in an extremely good mood and feeling ultra positive.
It's important to recognise the good days as well as the bad days.
Life is all about balance.
When we put Mr Benn on twitter I sat down with David McKee to explain what it was.
David never owned a computer & was sceptical about the internet.
I know he would be very proud to know that his bowler hatted friend from Festive Road had 50,000 friends here.
We have lost so many important foundations from our childhoods this year.
Today the most wonderful Ruth Madoc has passed. So Sad.
RIP Madam.
Thank you for all the laughs.
I am truly humbled and extremely grateful for the response & replies to my tweet last night.
I am so pleased so many of you enjoy what I post.
Thank you. Thank you.
David McKee is one of the few remaining influences from our childhood.
I am so lucky to know him.
He sent me this picture of Mr Benn as he imagines him now.
Whilst it is sad, there is still a look of adventures to come...
I have just come off the phone with Clive Juster, and the sad news is true.
David McKee sadly passed away peacefully in Nice yesterday.
The word genius is overused, but David was definitely a genius and I feel so lucky to have known him. RIP
To celebrate David McKee's Lifetime
@Booktrust
Award, I am going to give away a set of badges.
All you have to do is RT this tweet.
The winner will be chosen a week from today.
Good Luck! *doffs bowler hat*
There are some people you meet in life who are truly inspurational. David was one of those. He shunned awards, fame and honours as all he wanted to do was write stories to inspire and educate children. He did that for me, and millions of us. His legacy will live on.
This evenings word is Gratitude.
When David McKee, Clive Juster & I decided to put Mr Benn on twitter I suggested there might be 5000 people we could interact with.
It is Fabulous to know that Mr Benn has played such a huge part in so many peoples lives.
We are so grateful.
Message from Windy Miller:
'With all their tidying and recycling abilities, I am proud to announce that The Ministry Of The Environment will be run by The Wombles'.
Very sad to see Dave Myers has passed away.
He was always kind, and very interested in what other people did.
He had a great sense of humour, and was always up for an adventure.
RIP Sir. Thank you for the memories.
Grief is an extremely important & powerful emotion.
Thinking about those who are important to us who are no longer here keeps their memory alive, and that is a lovely thing.
This...
The opening titles with the biplanes towing World Of Sport.
Then Dickie Davies.
A man always full of enthusiasm doing the job he loved.
Thank you for inspiring me & millions of others to give sport a go.
RIP Sir.
As you get older, it's important to give yourself something to look forward to.
Keep being positive.
Keep having adventures.
Life can get very dull if you don't.
So... That's half of January done.
I always think the first two weeks of the year are the worst.
The days are getting longer now so it's upwards & onwards to Spring.
Keep smiling...
After chatting to Mr The Shopkeeper we have decided to have another fabulous Mr Benn badge giveaway.
All you need to do is RT this tweet and you will go into the bowler hat. The winner will be picked a week from now. Good Luck. Take Care, and Keep Smiling!!
This is probably the last time David McKee drew Mr Benn.
It is a treasured souvenir.
It shows Mr Benn still defiant as he spends his later years by the palm trees.
I love it.
The reason that we are so sad when someone passes away is because their lives mattered.
It's all we can hope to achieve.
Making a difference in whatever you do is the key to life.
It can often seem that the world is lurching from one crisis to the next and that it's all doom & gloom.
When things like this start to overwhelm me, I go for a walk. I will always see something beautiful outside & this changes my perspective. I feel happier.
Try it. It'll work.
I have been involved with Mr Benn since 1994, but due to a change in ownership, I have been told I have to point out that sadly, this account is no longer official. I hope we can still enjoy the fun on this twitter feed. Thanks for your support.
It is important to recognise when I'm having a bad day.
I am having a bad day.
I don't say this to get sympathy.
I say this because it helps me process what's going on and deal with it.
I hope tomorrow is better.
With so many terrible things going on in the world, it can be hard to find any happiness.
It is there.
It could be in the spring sunshine, or a bunch of daffodils, or watching a dog chase a stick.
Keep your eyes open, you will see something that makes you smile every day.
Your replies to my tweets are Fabulous.
They are funny, thoughtful and kind. 3 of the nicest traits in anybody.
I am grateful to David McKee who created Mr Benn, as our little group on here give me hope that everything will be ok...
As life is a bit difficult just now, lets have another Mr Benn badge giveaway.
To win a set of these fabulous Mr Benn badges, simply retweet this tweet. I will give away a set of badges to one lucky person a week from today. Good Luck!
Today I went to pay my respects to one of my favourite people.
This was the house that George Michael lived in.
I miss him a lot.
He wrote so many fabulous songs.
I love my little corner on twitter.
The interaction with you all make this so much fun.
I won't be going anywhere.
I hope you'll be sticking around too.
There is a moral to every Mr Benn adventure.
It is always around being a good person & doing the right thing.
I have no sympathy for people who seek to profit from disaster.
We all have a moral obligation to do the right thing.
Before we close the door on 2021, I want to thank you for following this account. It is very much appreciated, and I very much look forward to many adventures in 2022 and beyond!!
The New Year can be a difficult time for many people.
Lots of us put unrealistic expectation & demands on ourselves which if they don't work out can leave us feeling very low.
My advice is work yourself into the year gently, and see how you go.
You will be ok.
Wow!! Huuuuuge thanks to all of you that follow this account.
When I sat down with David McKee & Clive Juster & suggested putting Mr Benn on twitter none of us thought the response would be like this.
Thank you. Thank you...
They broke the mould when they made Paul O'Grady.
He did so many good things in his life.
He was extremely kind, hilariously funny, and generous with his time.
RIP Sir. You will be greatly missed.
Lots of new friends here, so I thought I'd share this picture David McKee drew for me.
Probably the last time he drew Mr Benn.
It is a very treasured souvenir...
Todays word is Gratitude.
I am extremely grateful for the support I get on here.
The meeting went extremely well, and I want to thank you for all of your extremely kind messages.
Lots of new followers recently...
Thank you very much.
I thought I'd share the last picture David McKee drew of Mr Benn on the envelope of a letter he sent me.
Mr Benn... Still having adventures!!
Good Morning!!
Thank you for all the messsges yesterday celebrating 52 years since Mr Benn had his first televised adventure.
Very apt considering his address is 52 Festive Road.
When we decided to put Mr Benn on social media, I looked at many options, and decided twitter was the best.
I thought it better to do one well rather than have profiles everywhere and do them badly.
I still think I made the right decision & I'm staying here.
I had some bad news today. It has made me feel down. It's important I recognise how I feel.
Never be afraid of telling people how you feel.
None of us is indestructible.
So sad to hear the awful news about Steve Wright.
On R1 with Mr Angry and all the other characters he made radio a huge amount of fun.
Then on R2 he was Fabulous too!
Always a joy to listen to.
RIP Sir. Thank you for the entertainment.
For those that haven't seen this, and if you have, here it is again!
Probably the last time David McKee drew Mr Benn.
He drew this on the envelope of a letter he sent me.
I feel so lucky to have known such a brilliant & beautiful man.
I am aware that lots of people are leaving this platform.
Nowhere is perfect.
Rightly or wrongly, many years ago I decided to do one social, and chose this one.
Better to do one properly rather than loads very badly.
I will be staying...
Please pass the word.
Thank you very much.
How is your Christmas going?
It can be a difficult day.
If you're struggling, try not to worry. It's just one day.
Find some place to be on your own to take it all in.
That's what I do.
A few years ago, if you mentioned you had anxiety, or any mental health issues, you were shunned.
It's different now.
Don't be afraid of telling someone you trust how you feel. Modern life is extremely hard. Don't be frightened of asking for help.
To celebrate July, lets have another badge giveaway...
To be in with a chance, just retweet this tweet.
The winner will be picked this time next week.
Good Luck!
Message from Windy Miller:
'I'd like to apologise to everybody in Camberwick Green that there will be no bread for the next few days.
I've had a skinful of scrumpy'! 'Hic'!!
I have great memories of watching Butterflies with my parents.
Beautifully written by Carla Lane, and a fabulous cast.
Very sad that Leonard - Bruce Montague has gone to the stage in the sky. RIP Sir, and thank you.
Terry Hall was the voice of a musical revolution.
Such an important person in music.
I own so many records featuring him.
I am really upset to hear he's left us. Going to listen to Man at C&A now.
RIP Sir. Thank you for the music.
Without humour, what are we?
I try to bring a smile every day as it's important to see that it's not all doom & gloom.
That's why I love your replies.
They make me smile. Thank you.
When you rewatch all the Mr Benn adventures you realise what a genius David McKee is.
There is a life lesson in every adventure.
They are 50 years old, and even more relevent today.
