We are deeply saddened to learn of Paul O’Grady’s sudden death.
Lily Savage was a beloved resident performer at RVT throughout the 80s and 90s, paving the way for a legion of drag artists.
Paul was a fierce advocate for RVT.
Our thoughts are with Andre and Paul’s loved ones.
35 years ago at the height of the AIDS crisis, 35 policemen raided The RVT wearing rubber gloves.
Lily Savage was on stage at the time, and she said: ‘Well well, it looks like we’ve got help with the washing up.’
In 2021, Paul O’Grady visited The RVT with
@PT_Foundation
and spoke about the now infamous “poppers raid” which took place when Lily was performing on our stage in 1987 at the height of the AIDS crisis.
A true hero to LGBTQ+ people, thank you Paul.
A heartfelt and rousing tribute from tonight’s host
@MichaelTwaits
and a moment of loving noise from tonight’s audience for an RVT legend and LGBTQ trailblazer, Paul O’Grady/Lily Savage.
A drag queen appeared on The Chase yesterday and this poor fella thought it was ‘irresponsible’. Thankfully, chaser
@anne_hegerty
was on hand to bring him down a peg or two.
Well played, Governess.👑
🚨 Two teenagers have been found guilty of murdering 16 year old Brianna Ghey who was trans.
🚨 This verdict comes a day after the UK Conservative government launched a new attack on young trans people with its gender guidelines for schools.
The RVT was raided by police wearing rubber gloves 34 years ago today, during the height of the AIDS crisis.
Lily Savage was on stage at the time.

If anyone can put us in touch with Lewis & his family we’d like to invite them down one night. We’d also like to invite Lewis to perform here as our special guest.

The thing is, Piers, when you tweet stuff like this your followers then feel emboldened to openly attack LGBTQ+ people in the replies and in the street. Yet you stay silent.
Your silence speaks volumes.
“After the documentary highlighted O’Grady’s involvement in a campaign for Pretty Polly tights, in which his legs were used for close-up shots, viewers were quick to point out the stark difference in attitudes towards drag.”
This is normalised now.
Slurs thrown around at artists and staff online. People are emboldened because media and politicians engage in attacks on LGBTQ+ people.
We’ve been here for LGBTQ+ people for decades, and we always will be.
This appalling hate will never win.

Today, our thoughts are very much with Paul O’Grady’s partner Andre and Paul’s family and friends as he is laid to rest in his hometown of Aldington in Kent.

⭐️ Tonight, Easter Sunday, 8pm on ITV1 (catch-up on ITVX).
🏳️🌈 The RVT has played a central role in the filming of this special programme, and it’s a lovely send off for Paul.

This one’s for you, Paul/Lily.

Good morning! We blocked them long ago and will not deal with anyone who supports them.
RVT is one of the very few LGBTQ+ venues that repeatedly vocalises support for our trans and NB siblings. Our manifesto cements our position, and we stand by it. No place for hate.
Initially Sharron Davies attacked trans people, now she’s on to drag queens; make no mistake she would attack LGB ppl in a heartbeat if it benefited her narrative. This is how people’s rights are rolled back. The normalisation of bigotry. Be vigilant. Always speak up.
Yeah we offered 5 days ago, are we invisible to you

?
Hopefully we’ll hear good news so we can help the national effort to get through this.
Support the whole queer scene, not just Joseph.

Thanks for using your substantial platform to criticise a small queer business. Shame you never bothered to speak up or help in the 14 weeks we were locked down & faced closure...
Both Lambeth Council & the police did spot checks yesterday and we passed with flying colours.
It's frustrating that news outlets are using an image of Philip Normal outside The RVT. I want to make it very clear that bigoted language of any kind is not tolerated at this venue, we are not associated with him and he is no longer welcome at The RVT.

We are saddened to hear that the wonderful Robin Windsor has died at the age of 44.
A very kind and happy person who often frequented RVT cabaret and club nights and lit up the room.
Our thoughts are with Robin’s family and friends at this time.
1) it’s achingly beautiful and achingly painful
2) Jamie Bell is still the hottest English-looking English guy alive
3) I want to get high and go to the

with Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal
4) Claire Foy is perfect

Dame Helen Mirren talking to Graham Norton and RuPaul about coming here back in the day. It doesn’t get mich gayer than this! 🏳️🌈
Welcome back anytime, Dame Helen ❤️
“In the 90s somebody was on breakfast television in full drag eating a banana in bed with celebrities. Now the general public are worried about a drag queen reading a book to a 5 year old. Artists like Paul O’Grady are exactly who we need at the forefront”. ~

We are calling on
@BorisJohnson
and the government to
#cancelthecurfew
. The longer this curfew is in place the more devastating the effect will be. Common sense dicatates that people are safer in a covid secure premises than at house parties. We cannot continue like this. RT!
If you can see this account 👇 please report it. This is targeted harassment of LGBTQ+ people and their tweets are encouraging hate speech. Many LGBTQ+ people are now blocked.
