Roast your own coffee in a wok. Buy green beans online, 1 lb. Of beans in the wok. Temperature at 450degrees F. Stir beans frequently. Listen for 1st crack. When cracking stops you have French roast. Continue roasting for 2nd crack and hear crackling sound , Dark roast, enjoy

I’m in Asheville for my cancer treatment in the morning. Power is coming back and internet is back up. The hospital is operating at half capacity but cancer patients are being treated. No motel rooms within 60 miles of Asheville. Wife and I staying in the V A hospital tonight

I hope to one day be able to tour this coffee plantation house in Fusagasuga built in 1870. Italian artists did the paintings on the exterior. It had a outdoor kitchen and a big underground cistern. Casona, Quinta Balmoral. It’s closed to the public most of the year.

My view of the world this morning. I’m on the North side of Bogota where the private hospital and medical clinics are located. This is a very safe part of Bogota and many businesspeople here. My hotel had many people from Korea Samsung headquarters for Colombia here.

I stayed in a hotel with no water in Asheville last night. I went to the VA hospital for my appointment and the hospital was closed. I was not notified that the hospital would be closed. I understand, phones and internet still not working

I had breakfast at the Waffle House and my waitress noticed my shirt. She said that is Juan Valdez. I told her that my coffee in Colombia is sold to Juan Valdez. She was so excited that she followed my wife and I to the parking lot asking questions.

When in Bogota you always see yellow taxis You don’t need to call Uber here. You just stand on the sidewalk and flag a taxi down. And they are cheap. Government regulated. Never had one try to rip me off. They do text and drive which is illegal but they still do it.

Something I have noticed about food in the U S A.. when I finish eating it is not long before I’m hungry again. I don’t get this eating in Colombia. Also bananas taste terrible in the USA compared to Colombia where they are fresh. I told my wife don’t buy more bananas.

I sailed to San Salvador in the Bahamas for the 500 year anniversary of Columbus making landfall. ABC, NBC and CNN were broadcasting from the island. People on the island had prepared for visitors. No one showed up for the party. At 10:00 A M every one left including me.

My dermatologist called me from the V A. She will see me next week and schedule the surgery on my nose. The V A does not have a plastic surgeon to do my nose, I will need a specialist. The V A really has taken excellent care of me

What a shock to go from living very well on $2000.00 a month to $8000.00 a month in the U S. We eat in restaurants every day in Colombia and the same in the U S. Crazy expensive here. We don’t have a house in the U S, only a R V van. My inverter stopped working so no cooking

I’m on I 40 East bound going to Asheville NC.. I’m 10 miles from Asheville and spending the night at Cracker Barrel. There is a open gas station here with cars lined up on both sides of the road to get fuel. The little town I am in has no power. I go into Asheville morning.

Today has been interesting. The cook at Waffle House became ill and the waitress had to take over. I’m at a coffee house, we ordered and paid and had a seat. Fifteen minutes later we asked if our order was ready, they had forgotten the order. Not a problem we have time.

I just talked with a nurse at the V A hospital in Asheville. My primary care appointment was moved from October 1 to October 24. Another nurse told me that I can report next Friday for BCG treatment for bladder cancer. I’m waiting to hear from dermatology.

A retired school teacher would visit the local prison and had a bible study class. He told me that some of the inmates had committed crimes to receive health care. Some of the inmate’s had cancer and no insurance. What a terrible way to get health care.

My son in law’s construction workers went to a job and a rabid raccoon tried to attack them. Foam was coming from it’s mouth. They had to kill it with a shovel as it wanted to bite them. They reported it to the police as is required in Blairsville Georgia.

The Federal Government spent millions to build small trailers for displaced people to live in after Katrina. There was no place to park the trailers because no sewage or water connection for the trailers. The trailers sat in a field in Mississippi and rotted .
