The United States is short on helium. We are facing rising prices and a depleting reserve. But last week, Pulsar Helium made headlines with a major discovery in Minnesota. Is this the 'we are so back' moment it is touted to be? And what on earth do we use helium for? ⛏️🧵

@JohnLeePettim13 DOUBLE the tonnage? Plastic waste today is 4.7B mt Expected 2050 solar capacity is 4.6 TW Standard residential 300W panel is 40lb 4.6TW = 4.6e12W * (40lb/300W) = 6.1e11 lb PV waste 4.7B mt = 4.7e9 mt * (2200lb/mt) = 1.0e13 lb plastic waste MASSIVE problem but numbers seem off

SMRs are a game-changer for the mining industry. Comminution (grinding down rock), refining, and soon powering electric equipment (haul trucks) use an absurd amount of electricity. SMRs lower mine costs and open up locations previously too remote.

Metals cost for 20 million Teslas during Battery Day in September 2020 was $45 billion. That cost is $100 billion today. There is not enough lithium or graphite mined today to meet Tesla's 2030 production target. Metals supply going to be a serious headwind to electrification.
