Want to let everyone know my Mom is cancer free! It's nothing short of a miracle - better than we could have hoped. The past few months, December in particular, were Hell. Hard on us, and unimaginably painful for her
Thank you everyone for their thoughts and prayers! It worked!
@faulkner_banks
How tf they gonna find you if you can play if you live in a different country. This tweet is so stupid. I've had multiple players receive scholarship offers via Twitter.
For those who think social distancing is silly & “this won’t affect me only 1% die”
Our mom has cancer for the 4th time and waiting for treatment. We can’t visit her bc she’s vulnerable
There are hundreds/thousands of families separated like us. Help flatten the curve
The baseball family extends further than just your team.
Can’t thank the players at
@ESUBaseball
for organizing and donating their own money to fly my brother home to see mom for 🇨🇦 Thanksgiving. It’ll mean so much to her (and to him and us)
🐝☝️ 🤘🐴
It always makes me sad when I go visit Mom at the Cross and the parking garage is always absolutely packed. This disease impacts so many ppl.
On a bigger scale - everyone is going through something you know nothing about. Be kind.
It will be a night he'll never forget 🥹
An emotional Erik Sabrowski made his MLB debut and was able to record his first big league strike out.
#ForTheLand
I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve worked every moment for 11 years to be able to have a place where kids can hang out and hit for as long as they want
Why JUCO for Canadians?
- Competing Against 18-20 year olds
- Better Chance to Play Right Away
- 4 Seasons (25 plus games in the fall)
- Less Money
- Get TOUGH.
Juco ain’t for everybody, but it’s a great option for many.
Mike Smith is day-to-day. This organization is an absolute joke and will never learn
Play a 40 year old first 3 games of the season and he gets hurt. When he comes back do you send him on a conditioning stint? Nah. Play him 2x in 3 days after not playing for months ...
Having a fun talk with some peers. We all agreed that hard work is necessary and admirable. But it’s a reality that you have a ceiling, and no matter how hard you work. The most talented players will be better than you.
You can’t work your way to the show. God tells you.
Awesome moment being on the field for my younger brother’s
@burnsaay
SR day with my old man today. Only problem is he’s been wearing the wrong damn colours for 4 years.
Couldn’t be prouder of you.
Today was 1st time in over a year my old man, 77 years young, got a lift in at AHP
AHP wouldn’t be here w/o him for so many reasons - but also when I decided to expand 2 years ago I had to max out my CC and LOC, and he lent me 10K
He’s the most loyal, supportive, person I know
I really feel for all you baseball players who had their seasons cut short. I’m sure so many of you are stuck in limbo and may not be able to afford to train.
Tomorrow I’ll be releasing 2 (1 for pitchers 1 for position players) 8-Week Baseball S&C Programs for free.
Time flies...
I’m gonna miss rooting for you, pulling for you, working with you, and nervously following the awful live stats
If you’re 15 and you want to play college baseball and people tell you you’re not good enough, I’ll tell you what I told
@burnsaay
Fuck ‘em.
It’s that time of year again. We are lucky enough to send off another crop of players about to embark on their freshman year of college baseball.
Here’s some advice I wish I’d been given (we won’t say how many years ago)
🧵 👇
It's sad how many athletes come to see me with shoulder issues and all they've been told to do is: bands, stretch, ice
Trying to fix a shoulder issue by just looking at the cuff and GH joint is like bringing your wife flowers after being a shitty husband for a decade
Good luck
Happy Birthday, Mom. Not a moment goes by where I’m not overwhelmed with the reality you aren’t here, but I’m so grateful for every day, birthday, and Christmas you were 🌻💚
For 6 years I thought I'd never play my SR year. I feel awful for anyone who won't get to finish their career on their terms
For ppl blasting athletes who are upset:
Knowing that shutting things down is the right move AND being angry about it don't have to be mutually exclusive
Just turned over the keys to 2.0. Bittersweet, to be sure.
If you have a grand, ‘unrealistic’ vision, but a belief in your own ability to find a way - don’t wait. Just start.
And don’t block out the haters. Listen to em and add it all to the chip on your shoulder.
The game is really, really hard.
The more time that passes since the last time you played, the more you tend to forget that.
As a coach you need to remember. You need to empathize.
"A word of encouragement during failure is worth more than an hour of praise after success."
High school can really suck for kids. My absolute favourite thing about AHP; and I'm proudest of - is seeing kids become friends here who probably wouldn't be at school. Forget athletic performance
AHP opened exactly 5 years ago.
I'm so grateful for every single person who has helped what started as a tiny 1-person operation grow into what it's become, and allowed me to spend every waking moment trying to live true to the words of, "Be who you needed when you were younger"
Chas is on the sandwich mass building program. If he shows up without his 2 sandwiches and protein shake he’s not allowed to train. Got a text today he’d be late because he had to turn around and go back
For those of you disappointed at not being invited to T12. Don’t be too discouraged.
It’s a flawed process and always has been.
@ErikSabrowski
coming of the 18U AAA Provincial POY didn’t make it. He’s currently in AA.
Just let it fuel the 🔥
The best thing you can do for young athletes is to believe in them. Make sure they know you believe in them
Help them develop a foundational belief in themselves; they can achieve anything if they set their mind to it
🧵 How the best coach I ever had changed my life at 15
Today is a great day.
@burnsaay
and
@EElias93
are officially FULL-TIME salaried employees!
A little bittersweet though, as now that they are full time they will always be here and I’ll have to see them a lot
#AHPFamily
To say I’m proud of and happy for
@ErikSabrowski
is a massive understatement! He has officially graduated rehab and is an Akron Rubber Duck in AA!
True testament to his grit, positivity, relentlessness, and work ethic. Can’t wait to watch you pitch!
There were adults that talked 💩 on this kid that he’d never play college baseball
There’s nothing I despise more than apathetic, lazy coaches that never did anything in the game whatsoever who knock kids down simply because they never accomplished anything themselves 🤫🤫
I’ll tell you what.
@burnsaay
and I had the best sports dad
He couldn’t have cared less had we played baseball, hockey, the tuba, you name it
As a result we LOVED it b/c WE chose it
Oh, & he never once criticized us after a poor game. He always left the coaching to the coaches
A year ago we lost someone who truly made this world a brighter place. I feel so alone without you here but what gets me through is the last advice you gave me
“Life is unfair and at times inexplicable but there’s NO value in expending grief and anger past a certain point.”
🌻
“Do you ever yearn? Often I sit. And yearn.”
At 15 I joined the Rustlers Baseball Academy and it became my second home and escape, made 3 of the greatest friendships in my life, and fell in love w baseball.
I’ve worked and yearned to create this place for 18 years. Almost there
At 26, I made a Net -100K $$ decision to go back and play my last year of college baseball
I’m probably the wrong person to ask if the experience of being a college athlete is worth it
But if you are asking? It is. It sure is.
Can you believe a 23 grad who is hitting .320 with 4 HR, 5 3B, 24 BB to 16 K - oh and runs a sub 7 and has 39 SB (all in 44 games) didn’t even make the top 40 ID camp for Team Alberta?
Same shit same old story the past 15 years
Greatest window of adaptation isn't always strength. Taking a guy's deadlift from 400 to 500 might not lead to any more velo. Moving 315 faster might. Or gaining more hip mobility might. Fit exercises to you.
Here's just the tip of the iceberg convo I had with
@LukeLucas1313
a couple weeks back. When I was at UCM in 16-17 he redshirted. He proceeded to go 14-2 the next two seasons. I promise it wasn't an accident.
Sick of making no progress? The answer is WORK.
As many know my mom is fighting; has been fighting for years; and continues to.
She sent me some old photos of her today, and I can’t get the line from It’s A Wonderful Life out of my head: “Youth is wasted on the wrong people”
Culture man...
For months Grayson (13) has trained alongside dozens of 16 and 18 year old kids that have helped him, trained with him, and made him feel welcome
I’ve noticed him go above and beyond to help Micah (10), who is new - feel welcome
Did a thing, just now.
When I say our goal is to be a leader in baseball development in North America, not just Canada - I'm not messing around.
Stoked to be able to implement the Edgertronic Camera to optimize our pitcher's development
I am a S&C Coach.
I played college baseball and did a lot of 'stupid' conditioning that sucked.
It didn't make me 'better' as a pitcher. Timed mile runs. Hell Day. (Yes you read that right)
It absolutely made me tougher (better). It galvanized our team.
My 2 cents.
I still remember when I was 25, at a family dinner being asked by a relative (in front of everyone) when was I going to get a real job?
At the time I was a trainer and a baseball coach …
“And I, I took the path less travelled by.
And that has made all the difference.”
There's been a lot of people spreading rumours/misinformation, and talking 💩about the summer team we are running and how expensive it's going to be.
So to be fully transparent, this is the cost for it and how it will work.
This dude is off to California. I often jokingly tell my athletes you’re either a fountain or a drain. Amar is the definition of a fountain - always bringing the energy and making people’s days better. I will miss him dearly (just don’t tell him that)
