If I ever found myself in a situation where I harassed someone “accidentally” I would apologize by saying “I’m very sorry about what I said and did. I take full responsibility for my actions and will work toward not doing something like that ever again.”

Maya and Blender are both useful in their own ways. Maya is great for rigging and animating. I like the ease of Blender’s modifiers when modeling, and it can be a decent free alternative to ZBrush for sculpting.

So, feel free to learn Blender, but also understand that Maya is still the industry standard for AAA so you will likely have to learn Maya to be considered for most job opportunities in the AAA art space.

So when Maya users say that Maya is the industry standard tool, it is true. Even though I like Blender in a lot of ways, Maya is deeply imbedded in the workflows of studios. As a game VFX artist it’s not a big deal for me to bounce between the two softwares.

Skills can be transferred over, but if you’re applying to an associate level position for a studio that uses Maya and they are deciding between someone who only knows Blender and someone else who knows Maya, they will more than likely choose the latter.

I use both for my VFX in the game industry, but I use Blender at my own discretion as it’s not a software within any AAA studio toolset I’ve been at. Usually if I wanted to model something in Blender I would have to import it to Maya in order to export to the game engine.

However, if I were an environment artist, rigging artist, animator, or some other role where a majority of my work will be done in a 3D CG software and I was trying to break into the industry only knowing Blender, then I would be limiting my job opportunities.

Since Maya has been the industry standard for a long time, most AAA studios have built up years of tools and tech in Maya. I’ve seen advanced game graphic technology built from in-house Maya tools. Some studios don’t have their own engine, everything gets uploaded from Maya.

In sum, both Maya and Blender are useful and have their pros and cons. If it were my personal choice and I was Supreme Overlord of all Game Dev, I would use both in the industry for different tasks. (But I am simply a meager meme queen).

In a hypothetical scenario, if you were employed and modeled something in Blender and needed help, you could be at a loss if the rest of the studio uses Maya and can’t fix the issue. You’ll also miss out on crucial in-house Maya tools specifically made for your studio’s games.

Elemental was phenomenal, I’m crying. Marketing did the movie dirty by portraying as something that it’s not. It explores the themes of immigration, race, love, and interracial dating so well. Not to mention the incredible technical artistry of the movie. 1/2 #Elemental

Just want to say from personal recent experience, Naughty Dog’s production team is one of the best I’ve worked with in the industry. TLOU Remake had the most organized game production I’ve experienced. It’s possible for people and studios to change for the better.
