So much more coming January 2024, but for now introducing (like a homonym for notice).

I cannot get over that a literal field hospital opened in Wisconsin just *yesterday* because of a surge in Covid cases and Trump is holding a rally in Janesville, Wisconsin in two days.
Asked about what he makes of Sen. Manchin’s comment that CTC should have a work requirement
@SherrodBrown
tells me “I think that raising children is work.”
Manchin on WV radio saying he knew from the beginning he wouldn't support BBB, but let Democrats negotiate.
That he got to his "wits end" after staff (either White House or Senate) did *something* that angered him enough to just come out and say he was never going to get to yes
I'm just having a really hard time reconciling what is currently going down in the Capitol with the many times I have personally witnessed disabled protesters demanding Congress not strip their health care be dragged out of hearing rooms, office building hallways etc.
SCOOP: The Biden-Harris campaign is rolling out official yard signs for Animal Crossing: New Horizons today. It's part of the campaign's broader initiative to meet voters where they are online.
.
@Sen_JoeManchin
met with min. wage and tipped min. wage workers today advocating for a $15 min. wage
He told them he was opposed, supports $11, per the workers who spoke with him
Rev. Barber said he was "amazed" Manchin heard their stories and still opposed the policy.
Patterns I've noticed covering Manchin:
When he says he's happy to listen, he's made up his mind already. (ex. $15 wage. Paid Leave. Filibuster.)
When he says he's negotiating, he's waiting for Ds to accept exact demands
He's fine letting people pointlessly scurry around him.
Haven't seen this reported elsewhere:
On Saturday,
@BernieSanders
campaign sent everyone on their email list within 20 miles of the 10 cities ICE was planning on targeting this week with a warning of the raids and a "know your rights" campaign.
Something worth highlighting in this Covid-19 relief *law*: It subsidizes COBRA premiums at 100%
If you lose your job/have reduced hrs and lose your employer-sponsored health insurance, the federal government will cover your premiums fully through Sept!
Just caught up with (a very tired looking)
@SenatorDurbin
, lead Dem immigration negotiator. He said “I honestly don’t know what is going on.”
...
“This President is just unable to make a promise and keep it”
.
@BernieSanders
is coming out with the most ambitious free college proposal in the 2020 primary. He wants to get rid of all student loan debt.
In 2016, Bernie & Clinton cut a deal on free college: it was means tested. He's not compromising this time.
Chatted with
@SenSanders
yesterday about his first proposal roll out since going back to being a full-time senator. He's proposing temporary universal health care with
@RepJayapal
.
What they're proposing:
.
@costareports
: you said busing sometimes results in "racial hostility"
@BernieSanders
: What else did I say in that?
C: You tell me
B: No, you got it there. Read it..
C: I don't have the whole quote
B: Whole quote is that the fed gov. doesn't give a shit about African Americans

They’ll be holding an official event Friday in California with Sanders to make official.

@JeffFlake
was promised a DACA vote this month. Then GOP leadership switched it up on him. Here are his thoughts tonight, almost 24 hours before the shutdown deadline:
.
@BernieSanders
calls out Manchin on CTC: “If Mr. Manchin and Republicans think struggling working families.. shouldn’t be able to continue to get the help, they’ve got to come forward to the American people and say, we don't think you need help.”
The very bottom of
@BernieSanders
medical debt plan feels very huge.
He wants to replace companies like Equifax, Transunion and Experian with a public credit registry through CFPB.
Most 2020 Democrats (Biden being an exception) back legalizing marijuana.
Most notable in
@BernieSanders
plan is the regulatory structure it proposes to prevent marijuana businesses from becoming like Big Tobacco.

These workers didn't leave the meeting with

Brianna Griffith, from Fayette County, WV, said she felt Manchin had his "head in the cloud" when it came to poverty in his state.

@BernieSanders
final 100-day push in Iowa is going to be about climate change.
New details: Sanders is doing a Green Jobs Tour in Iowa's 4th district. Isra Hirsi is joining him&AOC in Iowa.
Will be an interesting test of the message. w/
@ella_nilsen
:
O'Rourke and Cruz were asked to compliment each other. Cruz, in a backhanded response called O'Rourke a socialist, tying him to Sen. Sanders.
O'Rourke's rebuttal: "True to form"
#TXSenateDebate
A tipped wage worker, Brianna said she got $67 a week from the state when she lost her job, and lost her house. Manchin asked her about the $600 federal UI from last year.
She said that ended too soon and hasn't had government help since.
Elena Kagan dissenting to Supreme Court case limiting EPA ability to regulate carbon dioxide emissions: "Whatever else this Court may know about, it does not have a clue about how to address climate change."
I think a lot about the time DC voters passed a minimum wage increase for tipped workers and then the city council just repealed it.
The ballot initiative wasn't even close.
A contingent of Democrats -Biden, Delaney, Ryan - have argued Medicare-for-all would be bad for union workers.
When General Motors cut health benefits for upwards of 46,000 striking union workers, it made
@BernieSanders
counterargument pretty straightforward.
Absolutely fair to say that Joe Manchin singlehandedly just killed Democrats best hope of passing paid leave in the United States.
The United States is the only country in the industrialized world that does not offer some kind of paid leave mandate.
The issue is the bill provides $600/week in federal unemployment insurance on top of what the states pay out. Lindsey Graham say people could quit their jobs because they could end up making more money drawing unemployment. They want the payments capped at a person’s full salary.
.
@BernieSanders
has a plan for the media:
-moratorium on major media corporation mergers
-require media corporations to disclose whether mergers will lead to big journalism layoffs
-limit the number of stations a media corp. can own
How much of a difference will the

Manchin’s private comments to colleagues about big policies in BBB: He told senators parents just use CTC money to buy drugs. And Americans would use paid leave to hunting.
Several workers said Manchin's approach was to handle each case as an "individual" problem. That he asked them to call his office so they could settle their problems.
This is holding up:
Lizzie Pannill Fletcher just unseated Rep. John Culberson
Colin Allred unseated Rep. Pete Sessions
And Democrats are doing well in the competitive Texas state Senate seats.
Joe Manchin is echoing Republican talking points on the expanded child tax credit.
Sen. Bennet spox: Bennet “believes punishing the poorest children in America because their family’s income is too low to qualify them for the CTC is self-defeating”
Biden is asked on the eviction moratorium again and says that the Supreme Court ruled the last eviction moratorium was "unconstitutional."
The Supreme Court did not.
"We're not going to be move into being threatened to default on the debt if we don't respond," Biden says, referring to GOP demands for cuts to Medicare and Social Security.
Camera pans to Mike Lee looking OUTraged for SOME reason.
@SenatorDurbin
From my convo w/
@SenatorDurbin
“Soon as the guest leaves the office, Gen. Kelly calls in the right wingers and they bat it down and say you can't do it. We'll never reach an agreement unless there's a more open approach at the White House and the president is more constructive”
Rep. Mo Brooks: For two months I worked tirelessly to foment anger and sow distrust in the nation's democratic system with a perfectly crafted political message. Then people believed me and tried to overthrow the incoming government, ruining everything.
Manchin walked by me just as I dropped my turkey sandwich on a bench outside the Capitol and was picking up the individual pieces of deli meat that didn't touch the bench to salvage my sandwich.
I tried to run after him but he waved me off and I fear he saw the turkey incident
This has been said a thousands times today but the difference between these protesters pushing the police barricades toward the U.S. Capitol and the BLM protesters pepper sprayed, shot at with rubber bullets whenever police decided to arbitrarily push the line is just so striking
Wow this is pretty bad. Kennedy used $1.5 million of donations intended for the general election during the final weeks of his primary
The kicker here: The FEC "currently lacks enough commissioners to have a quorum to meet, which means they cannot carry out enforcement actions"
.
@BernieSanders
in his NH victory speech makes a veiled reference to Bloomberg, Buttigieg (and possibly Steyer):
"In this point in the campaign we are taking on billionaires and we are taking on campaigns funded by billionaires," he says about the path forward.
Some other
@BernieSanders
team asks that didn't make it into the final task force report:
-A stock buy back ban (currently a bill sponsored by Sanders and Schumer)
-Right to strike
-Bringing Medicare age <60
-Expanding Medicare for dental/vision/hearing
Just had a weirdly civil exchange with a package thief on my porch.
He said sorry, gave me back my package, and I didn’t know what to say so I just said “thank you.”

out with a plan to cover payroll.
Direct grants to cover up to $90,000 in salary for each worker + benefits + up to 20% of revenues to cover fixed costs (like what airline workers won)
White paper:
Really important thread here on the Wisconsin ballot deadline case.
Kavanaugh repeatedly conflated submission and receipt deadlines, made analogies that don't make sense and actually spread misinformation.
New tax plan from the
@BernieSanders
team today: he wants to increase the corporate tax rate for companies that pay their CEOs way more than their median worker.
Portland, Oregon put a similar tax on a local level that went into full effect last year.
Manchin has been incredibly consistent in his demands. That doesn't mean he has negotiated in good faith.
I think for the reasons listed above, those get conflated.
.
@fshakir
told Bernie Sanders campaign staffers this afternoon the campaign would cover payroll through the end of May and then issue $1000 stipends for those that opt into COBRA to cover health insurance through the general election.

Kavanaugh listed their names and ages correctly and got a round of applause.

The most lit part of this
@BernieSanders
Medicare For All speech was when he mocked the critique that taxes would go up, as if people only hate paying taxes but are totally fine with premiums.
"Oh my god dear the insurance premium is here, what a wonderful day! Let's celebrate."
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries nominates Nancy Pelosi to huge cheers and applause from the House Democrats.
Jeffries lists Pelosi’s record.
“Nancy Pelosi is just getting started.”
A read out of today's meeting between Manchin and Poor People's Campaign activists, West Virginia workers.
Really shows just how much of an uphill battle the fight for $15 minimum wage still is.
Steps away from a Fight For 15 rally in Charleston,
@SusanSarandon
has a group meeting with some Bernie volunteers who will be canvassing after the rally.
You cannot tell very well from this video by as soon as the music started
@BernieSanders

Joe Biden posed a lot of questions about Medicare For All — about what happens to people with pre-existing conditions, people on Obamacare, how the transition works and cost.
Turns out
@BernieSanders
bill answers a lot of those Qs.
Roy Moore appears to be confirming parts of the Washington Post story.
Most Republican senators couched their disavowals with something akin to "if there's an ounce of truth to any of this."
INBOX:
@BernieSanders
endorses slate of congressional candidates.
Two of note here: He's endorsing Jessica Cisneros, who is a primary challenge to sitting moderate Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar. And Georgette Gómez, who is running an open seat to replace sitting Rep. Susan Davis.
It's official: we ratified our first union contract.

2. 3.25% year over year raises
3. 16 weeks universal parental leave
