I’m excited to announce the
@brickxbrickpod
!
@arpanpunyani
and I will be sitting down with early employees, founders and investors to talk about the (often untold) crazy stories that help lay the foundation for future startup success 🧱
10/10 No offense to Amazon, but Go has nothing on this experience. The future of grocery retail is already here, and it's in Hangzhou. This is one of an increasing number of situations where the US is the "developing country"

9/ Just to recap: Buy online, deliver. Buy online, pick up in store. Buy in store, deliver. Buy in store, consume in store. Facial recognition. Automated checkout. Online and offline. Fast, convenient and dynamic.
Ikea's approach to international expansion should be modeled. Do the research, understand the market, adjust product accordingly. Appreciating cultural nuance is critical, even if rollout will to take longer than expected

@peelspls
I hear that. Calling someone my dad’s age by their first name in a work setting is still unsettling and feels disrespectful for me, and I’m a dad myself!
@david_perell
Reminds me of Ray Bradbury’s sage advice; “Stuff your eyes with wonder…live as if you'd drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It's more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories.”
6/ Pricing is displayed and can be changed dynamically via wifi-connected, e-ink price tags. If something gets cheaper or more expensive, as determined by supply and demand both online and offline, the price displayed in store will change automatically
2/ Each of the 50 Hema grocery locations enable delivery to addresses in the delivery zone within 30 minutes. Pickers gather items in 7 minutes or less of receiving an order. All the orders get placed on conveyor belts to go out for delivery
7/ Produce you buy can be taken home like normal. However, if you're feeling a little hangry after a long day of shopping, you can get one of the restaurants in the store to cook it for you to eat right there in the store!
3/ Fresh produce sits on the shelf for *only a day* to guarantee freshness, after which it gets transferred to the in grocery restaurants and food preparation areas
5/ Seafood is flown in from around the world. If it's in the store it was caught within the last 72 hours, no exceptions. The crazy part - most of the seafood is transported live! These are crabs from Russia. No crabs were harmed in the making of this thread (at least not by me!)
4/ All the aisles have interactive, digital screens that can provide customers with product information, show similar products and even what the most popular items in the aisle are (by age group if you're so inclined!)
@meghara
@profgalloway
Meanwhile anyone who the family has ever met has been forwarded the article with some form of "So very proud of my beti" included 🙂
8/ Most checkout takes place through a self checkout kiosk that can automatically recognize product. Payment happens via the Hema app (leveraging Alipay tech). Kiosks all have cameras at the top - eventually facial recognition will pull up your account as you walk up

To bring this full circle, I definitely addressed my dad by his first name in an email today (he is forwarding something to colleagues of his). He calls me up and says, “Beta, please send me a new email and call me Dad. I’m not some normal colleague of yours” 🤦🏽♂️🤣😜
An exceptional, in-depth look at

This is the ancient equivalent of keeping multiple tabs opened in your browser. Except this will never freeze.
Honored that

Nothing highlights exactly how thin the line is between order and chaos in my life than having our nanny call in sick. One minute, everything is in hand. The next, more scrambling than an iHop! The impact and importance of good childcare cannot be overstated
Just used

PSA: Stop doomscrolling. It’s not helping you or anyone else. Anyone who knows what’s actually happening isn’t saying anything. And anyone who is saying something is speculating at best. Give yourself a break from the anxiety

Don't transition the old notes is my advice. Having used Evernote for the past 10 years, I had accumulated a lot of crap. Start fresh with

As my friend
@golbiekamarei
puts it, the "talent tsunami" is coming. Lots of employees will emerge from over a year of WFH saying no thank you to their current managers, the co's culture, mission, business etc. Huge opp. for cos that adapted well to bring on amazing new teammates
