The war-mongering, reductive takes on the images of Palestinians at the beach are indeed crazy-making. It doesn't occur to people that during a heat wave & given no electricity, no jobs & no school, Palestinians would go to the sea? What respite would you seek for your children?

5/Supply via Egypt can cover some needs & the logistics of transport via Israel at this very moment are obv. fraught, but it's not about 'supplying the enemy,' it's provision of basic humanitarian goods to civilians & facilitation of aid from others. Israel doesn't pay for it

The call for evacuation does not absolve Israel of obligations under IHL: a requirement to refrain from harming civilians & to ensure that its actions abide by the principles of proportionality & distinction. But we all know the gap between the rules & the reality.

One of the best pieces of analysis I've seen on this topic. The US & other foreign governments are pretending at solutions. We need a ceasefire, release of the hostages & for Israel to open every possible route for entry of vital aid to Gaza NOW.

So many civilians have paid, are paying and will pay the price for the folly of morally rudderless leaders plunging an entire region into war. There aren't just "two sides," there are multiple ways this can end and not all of them promise war on millions of people.

The evacuation order includes areas of both Rafah & Kerem Shalom crossings, the crux of humanitarian operations for all Gaza. There is at present no viable alternative to these crossings. Both crossings are closed today, as acute malnutrition, starvation & likely famine reign.

Despite this stunt to present this as though it were 'humanitarian,' let's stay close to the facts about why it's not. In any case, if civilians stay and are harmed, Israel must be held accountable for its violations of international law.
