The direct rays of the Sun blind us—just as glimpsing the Divine directly would annihilate us. Thus, the moon acts as a mediator between us and God—reflecting the harsh sunlight into a tender glow. The cool veil of moonlight is the revelation of the Sun’s divinity.

Nothing forgives like the sea. In its cool, boundless expanse, all are absolved. Beneath its rippling veil, silence subsumes the soul. And there, all are purified of virtue and vice to be brought back into the great cosmic void from which all emerged and all must return.

He stood transfixed at the celestial vision, able to see only the twin stars of her eyes. She spoke: “If Moses fainted from seeing the mere Light of God, then you would become less than dust if I revealed my beauty to you. Take it as my mercy upon you that I remain veiled.”

Two nightingales met to serenade the setting sun. One whispered: “What do you think lies in the darkness beyond?” The other replied: “For the pure soul, there is no dark. In my ecstatic song I will dissolve in eternal Love, entwined within the warm embrace of the Divine Light.”

For Eve, the delights of earthly paradise were worth less than dust. So she turned her spirit to the sacred melodies of heaven. Gaze into the eyes of each woman—each descendent of Eve—and in your soul you’ll hear: “Is this world enough for you? Or does your soul yearn upward?”

A lover sang his tale Before the fair moon’s glow; And held an empty cup In hands by grief made slow. So sweetly did he sing His tender song of woe, At once, the fair moon sighed— Its face it dare not show. But wept such blood-soaked tears The lover’s cup with wine did flow.

Every moment of life contains both the beginning and the end. In a smile, we see the ecstasy of life’s gift and the bliss of parting from this world to the next. In a tear, we see the sadness of earthly separation from heaven and the joy of soon reuniting with the Divine.
