Fujiko spending the episode not wearing panties is arguably the horniest thing Hayao Miyazaki has ever had a hand in, and arguably one of the hornier things in the entire series
@JoshLipnik
I’m not defending Tesla because that design is just completely awful but as someone who had one of these for several hundred thousand miles, I gotta disagree with your general statement.
Richard Williams has, as far as I’m aware, never had a hand in Lupin the Third. It’s a great commercial? But all the information in this thread is incorrect.
(This was animated by Telecom, with some US assistance, I believe. If you like the style check out Farewell Nostradamus!)
If you haven’t seen it on your timeline yet: that promo pic for the prequel leans DIRECTLY into the manga interpretation of young Lupin, down to the shirtsleeves. I’m curious if they’ll pull other aspects from the manga?
I counted the frames on Jigen’s draw here once (listen. I got REALLY into this show) and yeah they timed it to 0.3 seconds
Not bad for using his non-dominant hand
@SpacedOutNTired
There’s a soccer team-slash-anti-fascist group in the Midwest that uses Lupin as a mascot
Also yes, we checked their account, they know who he is; Monkey Punch gets mentioned
This is NOT the best Lupin movie, not by far, however: It has some of the best animation, if not THE best animation, just...period. Better than Pixar.
You can see the texture on his undershirt!
The "not feeling rewarded for completing a task" is one of the reasons I think my depression is linked heavily to ADHD, but I've yet to find a psychiatrist who will interlink the two issues.
Ok, I know I often have issues just getting up and starting a task that will only take me 5 minutes in the end. But WHY is that? What happens in my brain?
This topic is intricate and hard to explain in simple terms - I gave it my best shot, so please excuse the masses of text!
Lupin III Vs. Cats Eye: don’t let the art style turn you off. It’s a SOLID heist flick. If you’ve got Amazon Prime, even if you’ve never seen either series but like heist movies? You’ll probably enjoy it!
Also the intro sequence is *chef’s kiss*
Oh my god there’s a slot machine where Zenigata and Yata fake Zenigata’s death to try to catch Lupin AND LUPIN ACTUALLY SHOWS EMOTION OVER POPS’ DEATH HOLY SHIT
Tumblr somehow figured out that advertising on their platform was best marketed as "we promise you can annoy 2500 people with whatever the hell you want" which is literally WHAT ADVERTISING IS boiled down to its base. It is, by all definition, genius.
So what do you do when you find an Easter egg of Lupin and Pops drunkenly singing the Lupin III theme song? And then Jigen & Goemon join in?
You post it to Twitter because it’s AWESOME.
From the Voyage to Danger DVD, y'all. Who remembers Easter eggs?
I'm excited by the idea of Pokemon in a theme park, but also hoping that Universal Studios Japan does not get rid of their "Cool Japan" part of the park, because honestly I wanted to go to the Lupin III version of it someday.
Really mad Lupin III The First didn’t get a wider theater release because the reaction to The Bad Guys on my timeline is basically “people want cartoon heist movies” but goddammit, releasing it for two nights mid-pandemic ain’t gonna get you any notice
Fujiko can kick your entire ass while not wearing panties
Also let's just take a moment to enjoy that one of the greatest directors in animation history, Hayao Miyazaki, drew Fujiko Mine's bare bottom (Lupin's too)
Okay so I was reading over the meaning of numbers in various Lupin specials and it has taken me THIS LONG to realize the reason that Goemon blushes in the safe unlocking scene in Tokyo Crisis is because "69" comes up in the code.
You can have a good full-time job, a loving partner and family, not worry about paying rent or bills…and STILL have depression. It does not discriminate.
Lupin as a series started in 1967, got turned animated as a pilot in 1969, and this gif is from the 1971 series. If you want Lupin from the 80s you have to go Pink Jacket, y’all.
Lupin III. The 80's series remained faithful to its roots, yet what truly stands out is how the animation quality and character designs underwent a remarkable evolution, mirroring the advancements in animation techniques and trends of the time.
FYI this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Arsene and Lupin II in the anime. There was a flashback in Napoleon’s Dictionary. This whole family is just sluts, by the way.
Both men appeared in the manga, too!
One of the only times Lupin references that he’s not just French, from Part 2, “Diamonds in the Southern Cross.” This episode also mentions that Zenigata served in World War 2, which *would* fit his assumed age at the time.
Worth noting on Part 2 Episode 145: there is a BLATANT REFERENCE to it in Part 5, Episode 2 ("The Lupin Game"), but the Streamline dub modified the original script, so if you've only seen the dub versions of both, you lose the reference!
TW: All those anatomy textbooks you go through in art school actually got used in this movie, and you will see the entire musculature of Goemon’s upper arm. It’s quite gross. Highly recommended.
Downside to the American version of the Lupin III: The First intro: they got rid of Jigen's smoke. Dude constantly has a cigarette in his mouth, and also he's a literal criminal, but SMOKING IS BAD
Also the 2D smoke on the 3D animation is a COOL-ASS effect and I'm sad it's gone
"It's very hard to maintain mental health because so many coping strategies are based on the idea that your anxiety is unwarranted..." THIS.
When your anxiety is constantly being verified IT REALLY SUCKS ACTUALLY
Fun Fact: Yasuo Otsuka did a few comics for the Lupin III series (I *believe* for Manga Action Weekly but I am not 100% sure). Here's a great couple pages of our favorite Interpol inspector getting ready to take on the day.
Pop that collar, Pops ;)
I keep forgetting to post this because the artist isn’t on Twitter...but huge thanks to Hazza for giving me the softest thing I’ve commissioned recently. Lupin/Fujiko/Goemon/Jigen OT4 forever ❤️❤️❤️
Also, I’d just like to point out: Hayao Miyazaki turns 80 today, meaning he was 30 when he started working on Lupin III Part 1, meaning he was 38 when Castle of Cagliostro — generally classified as one of the best animated movies ever — came out.
Your life doesn’t stop at 30.
Just spent a thousand dollars ordering this to go in the kitchen, as a Christmas present for my wife, because as a writer I feel I should undergo a wide range of life’s experiences, and amazingly I haven’t yet been divorced.
For all people bitch about Part 6, it gave us solidly one of the best episodes of Lupin III in existence.
We’ll have to wait another 50 years to get another like it, probably.
