Few things say more about human rights than life expectancy - it’s social, economic, environmental, gendered. In 1949, when the PRC was founded, life expectancy was 35 years. In the US, it was 68. My grandparents saw their life expectancy more than double in their lifetimes.

#Lumumba ’s assassination sparked one of the largest protests in Singaporean history. On 26 February 1961, 12,000 Keralan dockworkers, Chinese street hawkers, Tamil and Malay urban and rural workers. They chanted, ‘Long live Lumumba!’ in the same breath as ‘I love Malaya!’
